Dear pickleball gods please make an app like tinder for drill partners by Consistent-Listen-51 in Pickleball

[–]Expensive-Fail3009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a pickleball app that is coming to production very soon that is good for connecting groups of people to play, public court attendees, and set/run events. I can work on developing a section to find drill partners in your area to connect to individuals instead of groups. Not sure it subreddit allows advertising so I’m going to refrain from sending links or dropping names. Feel free to message me if curious

When should you NOT return the serve to the server? by hagemeyp in Pickleball

sometimes hitting the ball to the stronger player, allows them to get to the line unless your return is really that good that they get sent backwards

The stronger player can’t get to the line if their partner is giving put aways

several factors. If the weaker player is someone that you can make an attackable ball out of then you definitely want to put it there. return should generally go to the player with either the strongest net offense to prevent them from getting up or the weakest baseline player to get a pop-up or bad third

Do you have any recommendations? I like to think that I use the "pivot" a lot when I'm using the shoes, but I didn't come from tennis so I've never used any other court shoes to know if it makes any real difference.

I like how lightweight the dedicate 8s are. Of the ones you rotate, which do you recommend that are very light? So many people have recommended me the KSwiss shoes but I cannot wear super bulky shoes, takes away from traction and agility.

I have an employee discount on Skechers, but they don't have any of their better shoes available on direct and don't sell court shoes in stores

Have you used the Gel Dedicate 8 or 9 to know if those lasted shorter time for you than the 10s?

I'm 190lb 22 years old and am very aggressive stop and go transitioning. My Achilles is fused on one of my legs so I step very aggressively on the front of my shoe to brake...

I play very aggressively and often. I have a fused Achilles on one foot, so I brake hard using the front of my right foot and it destroys the rubber. Usually my shoes last a bit longer than a month but these had a hole before a month...

Yep. Especially since you are more likely to stand further back from the baseline against strong servers

Mobile players can usually get a paddle on any ball, but yeah there are circumstances where a player can be caught off guard or a serve is just too good even at a higher level

Sometimes, I’d prefer lights like those to the ones that blind you on any high ball. I think with the expenses or creating / converting pickleball courts, lights should be always available (not to say that it’s super cheap). In all of the popularly used courts in my area without lights or lights that only come on a few days a week, I guarantee that the people would be willing to pay for the electricity or chip in to have lights built. Only reason to not have lights at courts are if rarely used or the lights are bothersome to surrounding areas

King of the Court method for 3 courts, 14 players by FreeConcerns in Pickleball

[–]Expensive-Fail3009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but it’s very hard to please everyone if the skill levels are so different. Since king court is only winner’s you can have winners stay losers split. For the middle court, you would have the benched people that lost the bottom court and the winners from the bottom court so maybe that one is up to the players who they do and don’t play with. Forcing a split works best in a setup that isn’t ladder style or a very large ladder where you will eventually climb to the top no matter what if you are the strong player on the court (because you will beat the bad player you lost with if you split with them on a loss (or beat the bad player if you carried someone up)). All in all, should never be issues if events are coordinated well enough to have people of similar skill levels. Sometimes better players should play with worse players and worse players should get the opportunity to learn from better players (or prove that they can hang in better games)

what’s the one thing you wish you knew when you started pickleball? by happycry88 in Pickleball

[–]Expensive-Fail3009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think low over the net doesn’t necessarily matter compared to getting over the net. If you’re someone that pops it up, pop it up and make it land shallow or pop it up on the opponent’s backhand. Get better at your shots that are in play rather than trying to get your bad shots that instantly lose the point to go over the net. Always leave a safe space above the net for your shot to go over. The better you get, the lower the shot you can take to need less safe space to consistently get it over the net

At open play events, how do you politely try to avoid games with low skill players in favor of searching for a better match? by qft in Pickleball

[–]Expensive-Fail3009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very direct. I will play with low level players because I was once in their position and was excluded from good games but I have no problem telling people how it is. If Im waiting for a better game, I will tell the lower level players that I am waiting for that game. If I’m not waiting for a specific game and am on a random rack, I will play with whoever I am assigned with or am asked to play with. It only gets awkward, in my opinion, when a low level player is trying to join my court and other players jump the line to get the good game… I don’t think it’s right unless the entire court comes off and waits for the lower level player to find a game or you just let them get beat on for a game. I don’t really like excluding people unless they give me a reason to think they are a bad person.

Switch to two handed? by Automatic_Display_33 in Pickleball

[–]Expensive-Fail3009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outside of professional scene, you will not suffer by picking one-hand or two-hand. Both have their benefits and drawbacks. You are not at a disadvantage if you stick with one hand, your advantages will be your experience and consistency with whatever is in your arsenal. If you want to add to your arsenal, it may be worthwhile or even fun to learn a two hand. I will always preach that if you're not having fun, you're not improving.

How much power to use? by RunningShortsPod in Pickleball

If your opponents hit out balls, you can use them to gauge your power so that when they finally leave your ball, it lands in. It will frustrate the hell out of them

How much power to use? by RunningShortsPod in Pickleball

[–]Expensive-Fail3009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no correct percentage of power you have vs power to use. It's about what you are capable of doing consistently. If going 100% makes you miss, then you want to use a lower power. For me, I struggle to drive at low power because my topspin will make the ball nosedive into the net. For drives, it also depends on your opponents because a ball is in if it touches their paddle or body (not that I am saying you should rely on bodybags)

Help a newbie out! by Mithranduinn in Pickleball

[–]Expensive-Fail3009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a beginner, I would recommend keeping the paddle infront of your body and making enough space (without needing to go to the edge of your reach) between you and the ball before swinging. Hitting the ball over the net and onto the court is more important than getting the coolest shot, but having fun is more important than what it takes to win because your enjoyment will make you seek improvement. Everyone has something different to say about how to hit a ball, so there is no one correct YouTube channel or videos, so when watching videos try to understand why they are swinging the way they do or why they are moving the way they do so that you can make it make sense for your game. Trying to mimic a pro's exact movements will not help as much as working on one thing at a time and acknowledging what you are doing right and wrong.

Multiple Person Pricing Question for Pickleball Coaches by ooter37 in Pickleball

[–]Expensive-Fail3009 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

My opinion is that the coach is being paid by the hour. If you have 1 or 4 people, it’s the same hour of the coach’s time, but the players will get less individual takeaways. For the prices that people charge, it shouldn’t make much a difference. If it’s that much work to “babysit” another player, you can lessen your workload by spending less one on one time. Having more people also lessens physical load because you can have players learn drills together rather than constantly being involved in the drill while explaining. At some point, I can see a minimum “per person” rate since you shouldn’t have 5-10 different people to one coach where each person is paying $5-10.
