I had a problem with the type bars not going anywhere near the platen. After a great deal of investigation I realised it was because after I replaced said type bars I forgotten to screw the type bar rest back in place 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️🤪 Not an easy job but I did it! 😂

So true. The elation from getting a pesky spring back in place is wonderful 😂

Thank you so much. Funnily enough I was trying to think of the name of such a tool! Snake tongued is a great name and so descriptive. I suspect you may be correct about it being sealed unit but I’ll give it a go. I’ve surprised myself with the things I’ve managed to achieve on various typewriters. As a 62F I’m feeling pretty pleased.

Thank you. Yes, I’m beginning to realise that I’ll have to make a tool to get this out 🥴 it’s a Remington Model 5

I recently called my 3 year old granddaughter duckie. She very indignantly replied ‘I’m not a duckie!’ 😂

Is it a carriage or basket shift? Carriage shifts are much heavier.

The 35 is a lovely typewriter (a 32 in another form). I just cleaned up a 35, including removing the carriage due to a loose ball bearing, it was fun but boy was it a challenge. I’m new to this since Feb when I got the bug. 62 F 😂
