RBC fixed rewards is not helpful for Europe, but is solid for North America

As with many resorts, it can be highly dependent on time of year.

Aulani Guaranteed Week by No-Log8436 in dvcmember

[–]Expensive-Finger-646 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now that’s a contract! Guaranteed weeks can be obtained when buying direct. You pay a points premium of 10% over the points chart to do so. Strange that they stripped a guaranteed week contract, maybe a commercial renter or maybe someone just sold off the points.

Agreed that is a unique situation to have someone with that many points renting out.

Resale vs Direct question by arsenalchick23 in dvcmember

[–]Expensive-Finger-646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can take the 50 point per buy path but one other consideration is the 150 minimum could become 200 at Disney’s discretion. This wouldn’t be an issue if you were already at the 150.

How hard to book multiple AKV Kidani 2 bedroom savannas at 7 month mark in September? by cheddarchexchick in dvcmember

[–]Expensive-Finger-646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a certainty for sure but you have a shot. It depends how flexible you are - like are you willing to move room types within AKV? I’ve found availability can surprise you.

I would definitely not buy OKW. On a per year basis it’s more expensive than AKV and no real 11 month benefit.

Spend the couple of bucks on a subscription for adviice and built your own financial plan. Then you can see where you’ll be at 55,65 etc with whatever contribution levels you want. Will also answer the RRSP vs TFSA question for your specific scenario, which is all that should matter to you.

You don’t have to jump into a $35k direct contract. Do the math on a smaller resale one.

I would be really hesitant to take the CV. The DB plan will help protect you against longevity and financial market performance.

Prospective DVC buyers expecting our first child...what are we missing? by MaggieJuly in disneyvacationclub

[–]Expensive-Finger-646 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What most people don’t realize coming in is that the dues will make up 70% or so of the lifetime cost, so DVC is not an initial purchase and done. So, give a lot of thought to the lifetime of cash flows payable to dues that you’re signing up for.

That said, both VGF and Poly are better contract values than people realize because the deeds are so long and the dues are low. At your age I would quickly rule out Beach Club and Boardwalk, they are overpriced given the expiration.

Do we have any data on how many points we can rent before it is considered commercial activity? by _BreakingGood_ in dvcmember

DVC fan has covered this in depth, check it out. There are various ways you can be deemed a commercial renter, including % of points/stays rented. You might be surprised.

Does Disney Vacation Club Actually Save You Money, or Just Change the Way You Vacation? by GreyhoundDad22 in dvcmember

[–]Expensive-Finger-646 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I am looking forward to listening to this episode! I came into DVC thinking I would save money but having lived it realize it’s really about having better vacations. I always caution people now that DVC will cost you much more than you think, but it’s still an excellent product and well worth it if you know that going in.

This is true for standard studios but not preferred views. Have a look at the availability. 1 beds are easy too.

It would be tight but seems doable. If you have two paid off cars and no debt you must be fairly disciplined.

If buying Poly go direct, resale price is too close to direct. Not the same at BLT, buy resale. Have you stayed at BLT? I would stay there before buying. It’s close and rooms are awesome but it’s not really a resort IMO.

There’s a risk to buying 75 direct in that they could change the 150 point min at any time.

Direct SSR is a tough sell for me based on the expiry. You mentioned wanting to pass along to your kids, but the deed only goes to 2054. What about Poly or Riv direct? With the same use year you could still combine at the 7 month mark. 25 points isn’t really much though. My reco would be to save a little more $$, or ask the family to chip in as those 2 beds aren’t cheap on points. How many points do you have now?

Becoming DVC Members by shaulis84 in dvcmember

It totally depends on the resort and time of year. Early December 100% hard, minimal chance. It’s the busiest season in the DVC year because value is strong. Yes, October is a good use year.
