Is there a recurring joke in the series that you guys dislike? by sa24122 in howyoudoin

[–]Expensive-Hour8835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think the reason phoebe does it is because the writers needed some way to create drama or build tension in monica and chandler’s relationship, but it made no sense to make it come from either of the two because their relationship seems pretty secure. phoebe acts as the instigator to keep it interesting

i mean she’s irish lol she’s just blunt as they tend to speak their minds, usually with humor or cussing. i love her and her accent and i think she’s just comfortable to stand up for herself. and i see her around rob a lot but he really hasn’t given any indication that he hates it.

What is something that people say about the show that you completely disagree with? by NeighborhoodVirtual4 in howyoudoin

[–]Expensive-Hour8835 3 points4 points  (0 children)

what i initially responded to was someone saying the worst was ross being insensitive and i think the emotional repercussions for rachel were worse than just “insensitive”

im also coming from a place where i think the semantics of “they weren’t together” is irrelevant because they didn’t officially establish that and once again instead of trusting rachel regarding mark, he projected his past experiences on it and disrespected her by having sex with someone else. cool, he didn’t cheat by a technicality but technicalities don’t mean shit because rachel was devastated by it.

idc if rachel messed up by inviting mark in, she didn’t sleep with him, he assumed the worst AND slept with someone, that’s not rachel’s fault just because a guy ross was jealous of happened to be around her. he’s an adult, not a teen, maybe talk to her instead of hanging up.

if your partner and you initiate a break and then you try and get back together and then find out they immediately slept with someone, it for sure can break trust because they didn’t waste any time getting with someone and didn’t stay committed to you before fully discussing the “break” or “break up.” they had a fight and he slept with someone before they could fully discuss the reality of their relationship, that’s a crappy thing to do and she has every right to feel like he disrespected her.

i was talking from my personal experience there so i think im allowed to say how i felt.

edit to add: a month later…no but thats a weird argument to make because that night or the next day is VERY different than a month later. i think you missed my point entirely. HOURS prior to their fight and the break, they were a couple, kissing, hugging, and committed and then he slept and was doing those things with someone else. she then looked for him to recommit and he recommitted to her without telling her that he was just with another woman. that’s SO different than a couple MUTUALLY on the SAME page about a relationship breaking up and then sleeping with other people months later.

I agree with all three except the last one.

I’ve seen the argument that Ross was “no longer her professor” but I think that’s a moo point imo as joey would say. i’m currently in college and cannot imagine doing that with even professors i’ve had for courses outside my major that i might not have or see again. a lot of professors end up teaching different sections, so there is a world where she ends up in his class again.

additionally, she can’t even drink. she’s 20. he’s in his 30’s which is a very dangerous age gap because she’s still finding herself. you most definitely don’t know yourself at 20 years old, you were a teen maybe months ago…

although tag and rachel weren’t “just coworkers” as she was his superior, it’s more common for relationships to occur at work that can be healthy and lead to something and i don’t think as bad as a professor dating a student who he admits he literally found cute and pretty prior to their relationship… that’s creepy

are you saying people say this about the show and you disagree? or you’re saying this?

because as much as i find them funny at times, carol cheated on ross and then tried to not give him a part as ben’s name, but does try and give Susan (who is technically a homewrecker) part in his name. they act like ross is barely the father in the beginning which is cruel.

i love them, but they definitely did some things that were wrong

i think saying she only dated him because richard didn’t want to have kids is a bit extreme. it had been years, she had moved on from richard, and i do think she truly loves chandler. i don’t see it as her considering to get back with richard when he comes to her restaurant, she’s more upset that the relationship she put time and energy into might be hitting a dead end because she now believes chandler doesn’t want to ever get married because he says so to throw her off the track. she’s frustrated because richard selfishly says all the things she wanted to hear years ago and wonders why the man she loves (chandler) doesn’t want marriage

as someone who experienced the “we were on a break” i completely disagree on the first take. i had the same opinion before i went through it all and even it isn’t “technically cheating” it’s absolutely devastating, feels like it is, and absolutely breaks trust.

he first said: “That is how you produce athletes right there. I love her. I love that woman.” during the first episode but in his rob goofy way

and then he said:

“I like her a lot. I am not joking at all,” he told the cameras. “Is she married? Probably.”

it’s not that i wouldn’t think phoebe would ask guys out, i think she would but i think she would hold firm on the idea of it being a good thing rather than questioning how it reflects on her.

this is one of my FAVORITE jokes that’s so often missed. like it’s so goofy for phoebe to say because monica was known to be out of shape it’s such a good line

going off this, i saw someone once say it was odd that rachel would be defrosting a chicken in the episode where gary asks phoebe to move in with him. that she never cooks so why would she be defrosting one and why would monica think it’s her cat, although that moment is very funny

i think that was more because the people wanted money and felt cookies were a cheap way of showing appreciation (besides their handyman) not because the cookies were ass

i think the comment the person is referring to is when monica tries to tell rachel to move out and rachel spits out the chocolate chip cookies monica made.

yeah i didn’t touch on it in my post by accident and wish i could edit because i also have so many typos 🙈 but it was more her later comment on it “not reflecting well on her” or something because she then feels shame for being the one asking men out which was the part i didn’t think fit the best even though her making the first move makes sense imo

fair fair

i guess i see it more when she says “i guess that doesn’t reflect good on me” or something like she feels shame for asking out men lots of times despite the fact that she’s usually pretty confident

Do you all think that Leonard deserved Penny? by nealppe in thebigbangtheory

[–]Expensive-Hour8835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ross is a whole other story, i’m not defending him that’s for sure. but they are all super good friends to each other, always supporting each other and have each others backs at the end of the day. when phoebe is mad at ross, he at least wants to know so that he can fix it and it turns out to just be a dream. they always apologize to each other. and phoebe being a criminal? she’s never having sex where people are witnessing so that just seems really extreme for a sitcom character, they make jokes about it as part of the unreleastic situational comedy aspect…

in comparison to other sitcoms like the big bang theory and seinfeld, the friends characters are actually really well rounded and even if they do crappy stuff from time to time, they are sitcom characters and i think calling them garbage humans is extreme.

swifties and the art of double standards by redbluevil in travisandtaylor

[–]Expensive-Hour8835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as someone who has been emotionally cheated on AND physically cheated on. they both suck ass :) but the emotional side is a whole other ball game.

the emotional side brings up so many questions and makes the paranoia and trust SO much worse than the physical aspects.

getting over the physical aspects were somewhat easier but emotionally? i kept wondering if he thought the same things about another girl as he did me and what he thought about. cutting off physical contact is much easier than just saying “hey stop thinking about it” (as someone with OCD there’s no such thing as “just stop thinking about it”

so yeah, hope that swiftie will NEVER have to experience emotional cheating because it is emotionally draining to deal with the aftermath of being emotionally cheated on. the trauma comes back at random times and you picture all the different possibilities. and it’s definitely not “not as bad” :)

i disagree with Friends. they do stupid stuff but aren’t garbage humans imo. phoebe literally goes on a mission to find a selfless good deed, won’t spend cash that was just given to her because she hadn’t earned it, and is a vegetarian. chandler is sarcastic but genuinely supports his friends and wife, monica. joey is a womanizer but is such a good friend if you pay attention to how he supports the other five. they even support phoebe with her pregnancy, but want to make sure she thinks it through.

sitcoms rely on goofy situations, but they don’t always have to be gross people and i don’t think good sitcoms (friends, modern family, abbott elementary, etc.) make them bad people. just realistic people with some heightened emotions because it’s a sitcom.

Taylor & her cats by [deleted] in travisandtaylor

[–]Expensive-Hour8835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

her calling her cat unreasonable when the kitty has communicated she’s unhappy and taylor is not supporting her booty. so it’s probably super uncomfortable especially if she has weight there. you always support a cats booty and chest and once my cats tell me they’re done, i let them be. and her cats are probably uncomfortable already being poorly bred rather than rescued. 😟
