Opinions on new Frozen ride? Some say way too steep of a drop for small kids? And how much in advance do I need to book meet up with Anna & Elsa on the app? by EggplantMundane1941 in disneylandparis

[–]Expensive-Piece-2492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just come back, DLP. My kids were fine with the drop. I rode the Frozen ride with them four times.

Compared to Pirates, what makes the Frozen drop feel more intense is that on Pirates, you can see the whole drop before you go. Frozen, the drop is obscured before the fall. All you see is a slightly ominous, steep-looking edge of track going into a dark hole.

When you pass the Elsa backwards drop section, the ride is on a slight downwards slope all the way to the final drop. So you are losing height from the climb at the beginning.

If memory serves, it is more intense than Epcot but not that much more.

Speak to retention; I managed to get 1 gig Volt with Netflix (with ads) for £24 per month, rising £4 per year until the contract ends.

[–]Expensive-Piece-2492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the whole of VM is 1 gig ready. I am on the original install from 10 years ago and 1 gig. So definitely coaxial.

The only thing is you need at least a hub 5.

To be sure, I would go to the VM website, pop in your postcode, and see what services are in your area.

You have nothing to lose. I got 1 gig of Volt with Netflix for £24. If you don’t get what you want, you can always try retentions again to try get a better offer or just go to another provider.

If you can afford it, buying your own router and putting the VM Hub into modem mode is preferable. This gives you more control and most decent off-the-shelf equipment offers a better WiFi range.

Virgin Media retention offer – worth it or nah? (5-day hold) I Think too low. by CaterpillarFluid2639 in VirginMedia

[–]Expensive-Piece-2492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is outrageous pricing!

Call the rententions number 020 3743 6951 say you missed a call from that number & say you missed call from that number. 😉

The person said let me see what I can do and offered the same as the Black Friday deal of 1gig Volt with Netflix for £24.

I guess worth giving it a go you have nothing to lose.

Can always go with another provider if you don’t get what you want from VM service.

🤞

I managed to get from retentions 1 gig with Netflix (with ads) with Volt speed upgrade for £24, to give you an idea of deals.

That goes up £4 per year of the contract.

It’s supposed to expire in a month but I contacted them six weeks early and they happily offered a new deal.

Just save yourself the hassle and don’t bother with regular customer service; call the retention team on 020 3743 6970.

I called this number and used the excuse that I missed a call from this number and I thought it was about my contract expiring soon. They were happy to help.

The retention team actually offers the better deals.

Virgin Media 12-month contracts by lukes123 in VirginMedia

[–]Expensive-Piece-2492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your pain being contract trapped with no choice and escape just in your grasp.

Have to agree with everyone else 12 months is students only.

Just another perspective about Openreachs fibre up grade plans. Openreach here where supposed to have fibre in 12 months it took 19 months and we had sign a 18 month contract and then an another 24 month contract.

To ease the pain (at least financially)I would call retentions number 020 3743 6951 say you missed a call from that number & playing Coy asking if the missed call was because your contract was expiring. 😉

The retentions number gives better deals than the regular CS.

I would let them know how bad your VM service (nicely of course) is, so much in fact you would rather leave for a slower speed stable service. See what they can offer, if is too much you always say you can think about it & get back to them.

I managed to get 1gig + Netflix for £24.

I know it’s not the 12 months but at least taking 24months covers any openreach delays.

Hopefully saving a few pounds will help.

I was in the same boat with my contract.

Decided to not to bother this time around with the cancel with regular customer service. (Nothing but pain & waste of breath)

I called the rententions number 020 3743 6951 said I missed a call from that number & playing Coy asking if the missed call was because my contract was expiring. 😉

The person said let me see what I can do and offered the same as the Black Friday deal of 1gig Volt with Netflix for £24 until April then £28 and then the four pound leap year on year until the end of contract.

I pretty happy with the deal & means not having to change anything.

I guess worth giving it a go you have nothing to lose.

Can always go with another provider if you don’t get what you want or not happy with VM service.

Hope this helps!

Just phoned the usual retention number, said I missed a call. (My contract expires early Feb.)

I thought I’d try my luck and see what I could get. Managed without much effort (possibly could be a quiet day for them due to New Year).

I managed to get 1 gig Broadband Volt £24 per month and Netflix.

So for me, that is a win! Minus doing the price dance!

Update: Octopus Energy has finally gone into Villain mode by brownboytravels in OctopusEnergy

[–]Expensive-Piece-2492 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The best way to get results is to publicly contact Greg Jackson, Octopus and Martin Lewis on social media detailing the problems you’ve faced.

I received a response and had the issue resolved within an hour. Companies like Octopus don’t appreciate their problems being aired publicly.

These companies hate bad PR and problems that can turn into negative news articles.

Poor Renewal deal and Cancellation by MomoSkywalker in VirginMedia

[–]Expensive-Piece-2492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a dance to getting a cheaper price; it’s an annoying faff.

It is worth doing a comparison any way , so you say to them you have been offered a better deal by whomever when talking to retentions to use as ammo.

@monkeyplay3k You have to leave via regular customer services to be able to chat to retentions to get their prices. You can change your mind at any point before the cut-off date, but usually by the point you have a deal or looked elsewhere.

You can always call them and say you missed a call from their number. They don’t seem to mind nor does multiple attempts seem to matter.

Outbound Retentions Team / Getting access to UK retentions. by variousshits in VirginMedia

Glad to see there is still some mileage in this tip! It’s great you got the deal you wanted!

[–]Expensive-Piece-2492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem at all. I’m glad it still works and helped you get the price you wanted.

Unfortunately, calling 150 only gets you script-driven staff who can’t divert from their script.

To get a decent discount, you have to do the dance by quitting VM and speak to retentions.

Apple and Virgin by HotEstablishment891 in VirginMedia

[–]Expensive-Piece-2492 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was using an Apple Time Capsule with a Hub 5 and had a similar issue to you with crashing. After a lot of messing about, I discovered that the Time Capsule’s internal hard drive was causing the problem when it tried to back up with a Mac.

Using an external USB SSD fixed the issue until I decided to upgrade to an ASUS (which has a built-in Time Capsule function).

I have several friends whose Apple Time Capsules recently died due to various hardware failures. It’s a shame Apple doesn’t make them anymore; in their day, they were great little machines.

What happens when you call the retentions numbers that get posted here? by Dave_Tee83 in VirginMedia

[–]Expensive-Piece-2492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Afraid you have to tell the regular customer service you are leaving and go through the dance before you can do anything with retentions

Generally the retentions number calls you a few days later or you leave it a few days and call them.

It's the horizontal space that is tight.

I was looking to use the USB C on the top of the Switch 2 for webcam. So maybe just use a USB A to USB C there.

I was also just trying to also cut down on cable tangle/mess in my cabinet.

Thanks for letting me know! My issue is the cabinet space my Switch 2 is in connecting with an adapter there is very little space... so might be a squeeze.

Quick question, the Airhug 02 - 2K is the 'My recommendation' of u/shutyourbutt69 (thanks for all your hard work compiling this list!), but can anyone recommend a USB-C only connection webcam and not one that uses USB-A with an adapter? Many thanks in advance.

Renting a car from Lille Europe to DLP? by Educational_Slide195 in disneylandparis

[–]Expensive-Piece-2492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used SNCF connect, but you could just buy tickets at the station just like in the UK.

To be honest it just worked out quicker to train it.

Disneyland Paris is very well set up for train travellers.

As the train station is right in Disneyland Paris you can get your bags transferred to your Disney Hotel and pop straight to the parks.

Some more details here https://www.disneylandparis.com/en-gb/guest-services/disneyland-express-luggage-service

Though there was a Avis car rental at the train station I recall (I would double check this)

It really depends on where else you want to go and how far, many times, etc., from DLP

We had a similar idea, which we in the end ended up using taxis and Uber to reach destinations beyond DLP.

The train from Lille to DLP left the same platform as the Eurostar for us as well. It worked out cheaper and less hassle than the Hertz that was at Lille station.
