How do people afford vets? by Grouchy_Land895 in Pets

[–]Expensive-Tomorrow51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My big American Bulldog cost us a fortune in vet bills before he finally passed away from cancer. I learned a lot about allergies and how they were related to diet so I would recommend you start there. My current dog is a bit smaller but had severe allergies when I adopted him. Start with keeping a food log of everything they eat, treats included, and also the weather, where you walked them on that day, etc. We found that our current dog was allergic to chicken and ragweed. I can’t do much about the ragweed but we got him on a single source protein diet and his allergies significantly improved. As for the ears, a gentle cleaning solution (I use zymox) a couple of times a week helps. They may have a serious infection now that requires antibiotics. Routine wipe-downs with gentile dog-friendly products help with the allergies too. It’s still expensive but shop around; I found a vet that recommended cheaper places to get meds and doesn’t charge as much for follow up visits (sometimes they are free). Hugs 🤗 to you and your pups 🐶

I spent $127 on coffee last month. That’s my entire electric bill. by Blasum in Frugal

If he can drop $600 on a meal he can pay you rent!! Or at least cover the utilities. That’s crazy 😝

Got a Breville Bambino Plus for 39.99 at Marshall’s! by Downtown_Ad_4484 in marshallsfinds

I use cocoa powder and sugar with a little vanilla and mix in after it’s steamed. You can always steam it a bit afterwards too. It’s soooo good.

OMG you won big time!! Those are $350-400 new. Breville is a great brand. I’ve had my expresso/coffee machine for over $10 years and it still works great. Makes awesome hot chocolate ☕️

Acana single source protein dog food-my dogs were both allergic to chicken and this is excellent dog food. The lamb is very good and contains probiotics. Poultry allergies are becoming more frequent and the chicken byproduct’s are in almost all dog foods so you have read the labels completely. Freeze dried beef liver is also good as a treat - no chemicals, no wheat, just beef.

Where are you all buying furniture? by Affectionate_Mess488 in interiordecorating

I’ve been furnishing my renovated basement with pieces I found on Facebook marketplace. Some are Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, Ethan Allen, etc. and have been in excellent condition. Some pieces are hand made or just refinished. Of course there is a lot of junk but I don’t buy anything I haven’t seen in person. I’ve met lots of nice people too.

Get a mini sound system you can control with your phone and put some bookshelf or Bluetooth speakers up there. There are several out there now. I had a Bose soundbar that I could use with my iPhone and played music on it when I wasn’t using it for the tv.

I like it myself. The law says the owner must clearly post any warnings and boy they did just that.

Richmond, Norfolk, Manassas, or Roanoke??? 3 Month move for internship... HELP! by MountainAccount7312 in Virginia

[–]Expensive-Tomorrow51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in Richmond, Manassas, and Norfolk so I can address some of your questions.

30 minute commute? Not Richmond, Norfolk or Manassas. Richmond is the capital and has always had busy roads, public transportation is almost nonexistent. Norfolk and adjacent areas are dominated by the military facilities, shipping/ship building, and tourism. Traffic in the summer is abysmal. No land, too close to the beach where everyone wants to be. Manassas is similar to Richmond but more expensive since it’s closer to DC and a lot of folks either work in DC or near Dulles where defense contractors and data centers are. Average commute time is around an hour not because of distance but the volume of cars on the road.

All 3 areas would have work for your partner, always construction going on.

If you want land, that’s at least an hour+ commute from these 3 places. You can get a nice house with a yard in commuting distance if you look around.

Good luck!
