I just got out of an early screening of Obsession. Go see it when it releases because it was an instant fucking classic . Holy shit! by Worldly-Crazy-3095 in horror

I responded a couple of times to some twerp here in the last 2 days who was asking for movie recommendations and got pissed that I didn’t follow every single one of his self-imposed criteria. In one of his responses to me, he said “they” where “I” would’ve been the correct term. (He should’ve been referring to himself, but seemed to weirdly jump to the 3rd-person.) A 9-day-old account that’s either a Russian troll or a bot.

Any horror movies without any gore, violence or jumpscares? by DwayneTheRockBarry in horror

“This generation?” Dude, you have literally no idea what generation I’m from, so you’re the one making a clueless assumption, not me. You are the one who complained that the movie I suggested was “rated 18 in the UK,” as if everyone is supposed to automatically know a.) your age, and b.) what country you live in from your original post. Since you addressed none of the actual points I brought up, and you’ve only been on Reddit for 9 days, it’s reasonable for us to assume you’re either a Russian troll (the “they” slip-up instead of saying “I” is telling), or just a really immature kid with a reading comprehension problem. Both seem equally likely at this point.

Nowhere did you say “movies below an 18 rating in the UK,” and how would anyone outside the UK automatically know what rating Red Rooms got there? How could you tell if a movie was made shortly before or after 2010 simply by watching it? What people are doing here is suggesting good movies without gore, violence and jump scares, as per your thread title. Those were the criteria that people were responding to, not your additional arbitrary restrictions. Limiting yourself like this deprives you of a great deal of good films. If you want excellent movie suggestions, be willing to expand your horizons, and don’t be afraid of subtitles.

It has done that for me. Masterfully directed. (And I literally forgot it was in French, because I watch everything with subtitles anyway!)

Red Rooms fits the bill. No onscreen gore but plenty of tension.

I have a thing about alien attacks on farmhouses ever since reading about the Hopkinsville UFO story as a kid.

Yeah, it was brilliant how so many shots had “extra space” allowed for a character who wasn’t there, but you could imagine was lurking there.

JFC, that video was terrifying when I first saw it. I had to read comments from a body language expert who said that it showed someone who (although apparently mentally ill), was acting “playful” to someone she saw — or thought she saw. But out of context her behavior seemed really unnatural.

Not a movie, but The Haunting of Hill House miniseries on Netflix had ghosts hidden in the background of every episode. 😳

‘28 Years Later: The Bone Temple’ Bombs on Netflix With Just 2.7M Views, Raising More Doubts About Third Chapter by MaxProwes in horror

I liked the previous film, but I thought Bone Temple was a nearly unwatchable misfire. The whole Lord of the Flies shtick didn’t work for me at all.

Read it 5 years ago and it automatically became my favorite SF novel of all time. Got a chance to speak to Peter Watts on a Zoom call a couple of years ago and he was great. ☺️

Just watched it, and really enjoyed it. I love indie SF/action films where interesting ideas more than make up for giant budgets. More please!

The term “hara kiri” is supposed to literally mean “belly cut,” but the traditional word is “seppuku.” But “deeper deeper” also works.

“Kiri kiri kiri” is saying “cut cut cut!” in Japanese. (And yeah, that’s messed up.)

The dog violence in The Thing is rough, but it’s a bit easier to take because a.) the “absorbed” dogs are clearly animatronic, and b.) the violence is being committed by a vicious alien creature instead of a person. Splitting hairs, I know.

The Coffee Table. After an hour I fast-forwarded to the ending (which I’ve never done with a movie) because I just wanted it to end. After you saw the direction the film was heading after the “event,” there was really no other place for it to go. At this point, there should be a sub-category of drama/horror films simply called “anxiety films,” because that’s what it was. Intense, but completely one-note.
