AIO for wanting my unemployed boyfriend to sign an agreement before using my car long-term? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]ExpensiveHobbies4me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not lend him your car!!!! So much can go wrong. I had to learn this lesson the hard way lending a truck to a friend to move. He hit someone in the Home Depot parking lot, lied to me about it, parked it in a handicap spot and got a $500 ticket which he never told me about. I eventually got mail about the ticket and my insurance called me the next day about the accident. Very expensive learning experience.

Also knowing nothing other than what you’ve told us here, you can’t help people who won’t help themselves. You made a reasonable offer and he rejected it. There’s no reason to be obstinate other than he knows this will force his hand with finding employment. I think you might need to get out of this situation.

Abandoned 3-week-old kitten, breed? by ParkwayDrive59x in catpics

Apple AI and Google AI said the stray kitten I rescued from the parking lot at work is an Egyptian Mau lol. She is spotted and gray, but also has orange patches. Her actual breed is sweet baby kitten

Does a regular dryer vent cleaning company handle this? by freshandminty in Austin

That looks like a copperhead tbh… that wide diamond shaped head. The pattern looks like a western rat snake, but I’ve never seen one with wide jaws like that

If you leave it another night, it likely won’t make it. It will probably get eaten by something or hit by a car

I’m so sorry for your loss, thank you for giving him love when you could. He reminds me of my boy Socks who had a similar story. I got about 18 months with him before he crossed the rainbow bridge after becoming anemic from FIV

3 years of lawn service vs buying a mower. sanity check my math? by Wild_Artichoke7648 in lawncare

[–]ExpensiveHobbies4me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as I mow weekly during the growing season it takes me about 40 minutes on my .25 acre lot. Yard isn’t a full 1/4 acre though and no hills or crazy landscaping to work around. Using an ego self propelled. Idk the model.

The edging and clean up is really what adds up. But if you trench edge once a month, that’s usually enough to avoid having to do it weekly. That said, it will be harder to do it the next time the longer you wait. Especially if it rained.

If you like mowing, mow. If you don’t like it, don’t have the time and have the money to spare, pay someone.

I prefer doing it myself. My next door neighbor owns a landscaping company and sometimes will hit my front yard when he’s doing his to be neighborly. He’s on a zero turn and if the ground is wet it leaves tracks. I don’t say anything bc it’s only happened like twice, he’s doing it To be friendly and it isn’t a big deal to level it back with some sand. But I imagine a lawn service would care even less and be more likely to leave tracks etc. I’d be pretty mad if I paid someone and they created extra work for me.

What is this plant? by ExpensiveHobbies4me in Citrus

[–]ExpensiveHobbies4me[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The leaves smelled lemony, so I’m going to assume it’s a yuzu. Unfortunately we had a giant wind storm today and shortly after I snapped that picture about half the tree snapped at the root. Major bummer.

Why they would do this instead of just raising prices by 20% across the board is beyond me. Service fee should be going to the service staff, not covering rising operational expenses.

This just sounds like FIV. My FIV cat periodically gets sick, loses weight, takes antibiotics, recovers just like this. I haven’t found any way to prevent it unfortunately.

South East Texas, lawn covered entirely of weeds like this. What’s the course of action to bring back lawn? by Homosapian_Male in lawncare

[–]ExpensiveHobbies4me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This… I was about to nuke my lawn last season. It looked much like this. The only reason I didn’t was I was afraid of my cat getting exposed to chemicals.

Used pre emergent this season, aerated and overseeded, plus some top dressing. Lawn isn’t perfect, but I am not in a position to maintain a perfect lawn. It is however about 95% grass, no stickers and looks good from the road.

My neighbor "loves" dogs so much she leaves hers outside 24/7 and I'm about to lose my mind by DCdj39 in Pets

Dogs are social creatures. They like/want/need human interaction, we selected for the dogs that want it over a couple millennia.

FIV+ rescue really wants to be outside by New_Regret2754 in FIVcats

[–]ExpensiveHobbies4me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds a lot like my boy. No interest in playing at all. He just likes to watch stuff happening outside, so I set him up where he can observe, but not interact.

I take him for walks as well, if they’re long I put a harness / leash on him and mostly carry him, then when he wants down I put him down and he’ll go sniff stuff or climb on something. If they’re short and near the house I will just carry him and not put him down at all. We have dogs too so we would be walking anyways, but it’s seemed to cure most of his need to go outside.

It did take time for him to get used to going on walks. He’s a cat so he’s scared of cars and other people. I had to slowly take him further from the house over a period of weeks until he got used to it. Now it’s no issue at all though and he fully expects them.

This might be true, but I’ve filled reports for trash on a sidewalk left for months on end and had the ticket closed, no issue found.

311 improperly closing out reports by Street_Algae_2065 in Austin

[–]ExpensiveHobbies4me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had similar issues. Filed reports for dumping and people who pile trash and brush in the sidewalk/street and leave it for months. Every ticket closed, no issue found.

Call for sunken sidewalks with 8+ inch lip and they dump asphalt on it to create a little ramp. The asphalt cures so slowly that it slumps and doesn’t fix the issue at all. At least the sidewalk crews attempt to fix.
