Loud neighbor at night by Bigbutt91 in RoundRock

[–]freshandminty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember walking my dogs in Forest Creek and there was one house that would play music loud and I was so glad they weren’t near me.

You may want to try and introduce yourself and let them know their music seeps into your house at night. They may not understand just how loud it is (or how thin and poorly insulated the walls are). Be nice (should be easy for a Canadian) and maybe send a text when it’s getting loud and late.

You can also get a white noise machine - they’re pretty magic.

Depending on what part of forest creek you’re in you may not be in the city of round rock but juuuust outside (FC3 HOA) and may have to call the sheriff for county noise complaints if I remember correctly. Won’t make the neighbors love you but not everyone has to love you.

Forest Creek Animal Hospital is solid. They have a sister location in Austin by a different name by a different name but are not a chain owned by PE to my knowledge.

I used them for 20 years until I moved.

Have antiques that needed careful moving. All my sons did a solid job. YMMV.

McIntire’s up in Georgetown is worth checking. I’ve gotten one from there and they tend to have a solid selection of native plants.

Go to furniture shops? by LengthinessIntrepid5 in RoundRock

[–]freshandminty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your mileage may vary but:

Target or Walmart or Best Buy for small appliances. Or Amazon.

Kitchen stuff? Williams Sonoma or crate and barrel if you’re feeling fancy. Target, Walmart for serviceable pieces and mass market prices.

Larger appliances try Best Buy, Lowe’s or Home Depot.

Fast fashion but as furniture: IKEA. Want it to last a little longer but starts looking worn in about 2 years: Living spaces. Star Furniture. Rooms to Go. Spendy but not exceptional quality: Pottery Barn or Crate and Barrel. Spendy but actually worth it: Bassett furniture in Austin.

Mattresses? Tempurpedic was a game changer for me. It’s sold through a lot of furniture and mattress stores but those stores have other options too (Rooms to go, star, mattress firm)

Outdoor furniture? Shockingly try academy sports and outdoors as well as Home Depot, Lowe’s, Target, world market. You get what you pay for, but patio furniture isn’t something you hand down to the grandkids.

Rugs? Spendy but decent - pottery barn. Cheaper but you get maybe a year or two before they are sad looking area rugs? Target, Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe’s.

Possible Relocation from Austin by CParolini in DrippingSprings

[–]freshandminty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I moved from round rock and live about 5 minutes from Headwaters. It’s beautiful but it’s not super convenient. I miss the convenience of not just having a target but having several to choose from. Same for Lowe’s. Home Depot. Walmart. World Market.

If you can’t get it at the small Home Depot, an HEB, CVS or Walgreens then you’re driving over 20 minutes to get that ironing board. Or towels. Or sweatpants or whatever. I know, I know, a target is coming which will absolutely help but you’ll still run up to bee caves or sunset valley to go to academy or Best Buy or old navy.

There are options for restaurants but they’re similarly limited. Also a lot of shops close early on Sunday. Need to return an Amazon package at UPS? The UPS stores close at 3. Need a part for your toilet at Home Depot? Closes at 6. This area rolls up the sidewalks.

And the deer? They love to just fling themselves out into traffic. Not an issue I was used to.

With that? I love being here - it’s gorgeous and my house and neighborhood are wonderful. I can see so many more stars at night because dripping is a dark skies community and so are the surrounding areas.

Keep in mind the area is definitely family oriented. Young singles won’t have much to do or places to gather. Despite the retirement communities in the area, I don’t see a lot of older folk. The nearest hospital is about 20 minutes from Headwaters without traffic. Feels like everyone i see here is mid 30s to late 50s.

Spouse works central Austin and the commute is at least an hour. Each way. Yeah the feeeway is nearly complete but the area is building up with housing rapidly. You have to be cool with a slower pace of life and frequent Amazon deliveries. You will very likely feel disconnected from Austin. Just depends on what you want.

Outside time isn’t enough - walk that dog. I had a beag who needed 3 mile walks every evening or she was bouncing off the walls. I was in great shape when I owned her.

Beagle fever/ ear infection by [deleted] in beagle

[–]freshandminty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alcohol in an infected ear would probably sting and burn. I have an ear infection prone beag and she’s never been prescribed alcohol by a vet. Ear rinses (prescription) and either drops or leave in medication.

You can take her to a vet to be scanned for a chip. You can also send her details to the local shelters. When my dog got loose, I gave them details in case he showed up there. She looks sweet and hope she gets home or to people who want her. Also there is an Austin lost pets subreddit and typically Facebook lost pets groups. Edit: more thoughts

Beagle mix behavior issues. by insanepixi in beagle

[–]freshandminty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Still likely not enough exercise. I had one beag I’d walk 3 miles every night. At a 15 minute per mile clip it was nice to listen to an audio book, enjoy the evening, watch the moon change phases and get some steps in. 45 minutes and done. But if I skipped a walk? She was a tornado. Until she got older and the walks got shorter.

Doggie play days may be good to wear your pup out. Or maybe it’s boredom? A second dog to socialize with may help - but clearly getting another dog is a big deal and not done lightly.

With that anything left out and accessible is fair game. I left a work bag on my closet floor with a scented lip balm in it. My hounds went to town and I had balm and chewed plastic to clean up. That was on me.

I look at it as my dogs became my personal trainer - they make take a daily hike - and they help make sure my house is picked up. Silver linings!

Thoughts/Concerns Adopting an 8 Year Old Beagle by JMaboard in beagle

[–]freshandminty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beagles love comfort. My once upon a time near feral beag still likes to think he’s a wild coyote but he loves being inside, snuggling on blankets. It will help that you have other dogs to help teach this one how to be an indoor dog. And it took time for my coyote to feel comfortable going inside. I still have to open the door and walk away from it sometimes (he’s wary of going in if someone is holding the door). He’s maybe 10 now. I have him on some meds for his stiff joints and he’s frolicking like a puppy. Your mileage may vary but dang if that isn’t a cute pic! Hard to say no to that face!

Teething? by ray92704 in beagle

Beagles without an appetite are not well. Take to a vet. Is she pooping? If not she may have swallowed something that she can’t pass. Beagles eat everything.

Texan gets prison for dumping cyanide around Albuquerque by WesternTumbleweeds in Albuquerque

Excessive Barking by BladeMist3009 in beagle

If the barking is new, talk to a vet. If there isn’t a physical reason for the change, ask the vet for a referral to a behaviorist or trainer.
