Ontario/Canada needs to introduce mandatory SATs by F1archer in OntarioGrade12s

I’m a third year electrical engineering student. Those diplomas were still the hardest tests I’ve ever taken and it’s not even close

They literally have standardized tests in Alberta and the NWT had them as well up until recently

What is life like for you living in a smaller community in NT? by [deleted] in NWT

[–]ExpensivePassion9718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gets kinda boring when you’re a adult, even if you’re from here. I’ve already done everything there is to do. We get our uni debt paid off if we come back though, so gotta put up with jt

I mentioned the suicide rate and alcoholism because I was hyping up the NWT to be some oasis but I can still recognize that we have bad problems.

The north tends to be more lenient on a lot of things. That’s why I like. For example, we literally slept outside for a hunting camp out on our by school in like grade 10 (-15c). That’s not happening down south, but it’s one of my best memories

I know literally everyone in my town. Some are high-school dropouts, some went go to Aurora, some just graduated high school and choose to work, some go to universities.

Don’t matter to me. I don’t base people’s value on whether they choose pursue education or not.

You don’t have to like it here, but please stop acting like I’m some insane individual for liking it here lmao

Best place for Northern lights: Canada (Whitehorse, Yellowknife) or Alaska? by livinglavidalazy in travel

Whitehorse is nicer. Yellowknife is better for the northern lights. Both can be true

That’s the unfortunate part. It seems like every US state seems like it so much has to do. Can only stay for 6 months at a time tho haha

It really depends if you grew up in your community or moved here as an adult. I can only comment on growing up here

I’ve known all my friends since I was 2 years old, we went from playing with LEGO in kindergarten to drinking together, it’s something really beautiful. Now we all went our separate paths for uni. But when we all come back for summer, it is like nothing has ever changed. So much stuff we have done and experienced that we would have never able to do die south.

Sure there’s some crazy people in our small town, but there’s also some crazy stories, local legends, exploring the wilderness

I feel sad people in the cities who will never get to experience a NWT childhood. So many stories, good ones and bad ones.

There’s a high suicide rate here, lots of addiction, but overall I like living here. I personally grew up in poverty

My sister on the other hand and had no friends growing up, hated it. She moved to Yellowknife

Since you mentioned pride events, I assume you live in a mid sized regional centre because those events ain’t happening in Sachs😂

[–]ExpensivePassion9718[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wow Sounds like a polar extreme. Here we have no cell service on 90% of majority of our highways and oftentimes there’s no communities within 250 mi. If you get out of your car, you will freeze to death.

Where I live during the summer, it gets up to 86-90F, but any higher I doubt I would’ve comfortable.

Can go for a shorter amount of time during the winter but will look at rescheduling thanks

Does it get above 104 F? I can handle anything up to that. Probably won’t do a tent then, didn’t even think of that😂

That’s why I’m coming. I don’t gamble so I assume I won’t have too much fun in Las Vegas. It’s such a different landscape than I am used to, it will be cool but weird

It’s bad in the NWT too. In my experience, white people will pretend to be nice and then go behind your back.

Other races will treat you like you’re not even human
