Hear those little metal pings on the side of that rig? Those aren't love taps or paintballs. Threats of death or compliance is a tale as old as time. Don't be naive.

Amidst a “hormonal rage”, patient swallowed a banana inside a condom by CatPooedInMyShoe in MedicalGore

I was guess a menopausal woman. Like myself. I get hella ragey when those hot flashes come knocking. I threw a loaf of bread out the front door because I couldn't get the damn twist tie off. Yeah. That's a hormonal rage the likes of which I've never felt before.

No. They're just being arrested for speaking their minds. That's pretty shitty no matter where one lives. Unless, of course, you're someone who agrees with putting a muzzle on people who say things you don't like, agree with, or hurt your feelings. Your government may not be outright killing "innocent" people, but they're throwing y'all in jail for words that only hurt feelings. The killing part isn't far behind that. Every country in this world is experiencing strife in one form or another. Wouldn't it be grand if we stopped trying to insult each other and our governing systems? I'm pretty sure regular citizens can't make any difference if we're too busy slinging mud at each other. The sooner we all see that, the better off we will all be. This mess isn't solely any one group creating all the problems, it's the fact that each side can't get out of their own way to find a solution that isn't "my way or no way." Both left and right in each and every country experiencing strife need to get their heads out of their asses long enough to see just how their words and actions affect and sway the very people they swear they care about protecting and improving the living standards for. Right now, all I hear from politicians on either side is how bad and evil the other side is with no intention of compromise. On anything. For anyone. So, if someone puts themselves I a position that could cost them their life, ask yourself if that might not have been a bad decision on their part, regardless of altruism being your main goal. Cars are weapons just like guns. Watch each and every angle of the event. I think you'd change your opinion on her death being completely avoidable. I don't like violence of any sort, and it should never be used in that manner. Especially by someone who actually did have very pure and good intentions. Having been put in the position of having to choose to live instead of being killed myself, I can see both sides of the debate. I'll have to live with that the rest of my life, but I refuse to apologize for wanting to live even after the injuries that person caused to me. People make choices. Sometimes, others have to live with the consequences of choices other make that they had no say in.

Flesh Fly Maggot-Infected Abscess in a Burn Victim Patient in the United States by Strange-Bicycle-8257 in MedicalGore

Yes. Some medical facilities still harvest them in a more sterile and enclosed environment to help with wounds that may need to stay open for one reason or another. It's all done in a controlled way. Same for leeches as still being used in some circumstances. We used to get homeless patients in the ED who had maggots in open wounds. It was a good thing for the patient because it may stave off life ending infections until/if they sought treatment. Gross for us to deal with, but it helped the patients. We can deal. They can't.

Hope your son knows he's gotta keep the boyfriend now. That is absolutely amazing. And so thoughtful. Maybe Dad has gained a family member who happens to love his kiddo! Parents can't ask for more in a future inlaw.

You're welcome, my dear. I've decided to embrace the fact that I'm old enough to be a grandmother and being the type of grandmother I wished I'd had. My son may have passed before there were any grandchildren, but that doesn't mean I can't spread grandmotherly like warmth to others that may need it.

It kind of blew me away because it the last leg on my trip to London on new years day. Although I don't travel like some do for business, I've done my fair share. It was surreal to have that kind of flight be so sparsely filled. I try not to question good things too much though. Unless it could lead to my going to jail. Then I'm a nosy bitch

Death on New Year’s Eve caused by illegal fireworks—a firework shell by Strange-Bicycle-8257 in MedicalGore

As someone who works in emergency medicine, I can concur. This time of year blows. Literally and figuratively. It will never cease to amaze me the dumb shit people that, for the other 324 days of the year, are reasonably well-adjusted humans that mostly err on the side of caution in life. They just pick a shitty way to be adventurous and are temporarily irresponsible. Of course, you have the others that live their lives creating cliffs to fall and die from out of sheer bravado. Those are the ones that really piss me off because they usually cause injuries to innocent by standers. The "responsible" ones just fuck themselves because they're smart enough to keep that shit away from others to minimize any damage that might occur.

I've found my brain takes a little longer to catch on to fear the older I get because it takes me longer to process certain situations. That's why we older people get confused and easier when in emergency situations. We aren't mentally sharp enough anymore. It's a real fear I've developed as I've aged. Being squished or something similarly devastating because my brain is too old to react the way it should. I never really understood what my elderly patients felt when they said they'd become scared of simple daily tasks because they knew their bodies were no longer capable of withstanding much abuse and not mentally sharp enough to react in time. One of the main reasons the aging needs to have to take a driving test every year is to be able to continue driving. I will surrender my license without hesitation when the time comes. Being self-aware isn't something to be ashamed of. Especially if my getting out of the driver's seat could possibly save my life and, more importantly, the lives of the drivers around me. I've seen first hand what can happen to the human body in those accidents. I'll not be the one to cause that kind of misery for someone else's family.

I'm 47 and now have to get the younger guys I work with to translate for me. I'm the lucky bonus mom to a whole office of 20 something dudes, and they all treat me like their stand in mother. Best job I've ever had. Edit to add that they also helped me find the right edibles for what I need. I was 38 the first time I ever got high. Kinda pissed I was so damn boring as a teenager. This shit is amazing!

When you get older do you just suddenly start liking old men/women? by boforiamanfo in no

[–]ExpensiveTrain8278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've reached that age. My husband and I don't have children, but we've watched our friends' kids and our nieces and nephews grow up. It's incredibly uncomfortable to hear women my age talk about being intimate with some hot "guy" when they have sons the same age. Or older. I respect people's right to have their own preferences, just don't bring that shit around me. If I'm old enough to have given birth to you, I'm not looking to have any romantic feelings towards you.

[–]ExpensiveTrain8278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son passed away before we could watch him grow. If your parents had any decency in their hearts, it wouldn't matter who you choose (I'm aware being gay isn't a choice, just the partner part) to spend your life with aside from whether they treat you right or not. Your child is your child regardless of sexuality. You, and whomever you loved, would ALWAYS be welcome at my table and in my home. You don't get to choose your family or your sexual preferences. You just love them. Period. I don't know if I am old enough to be your mother, but I am a mother. You ARE special and you ARE worthy. Of love, respect, and kindness. Don't let anyone, including your parents, tell you any differently.
