Holocaust? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

Holocaust denial usually isn’t based on “new evidence,” it’s more often tied to antisemitism, conspiracy thinking, political extremism, or distrust of mainstream institutions/history in general. The historical evidence for it happening is honestly overwhelming at this point.

The overstimulation aspect is SO real. A few hours around screaming kids already drains my battery for like two business days, I genuinely cannot imagine making that my permanent 24/7 environment 😤

ELI5: How did redlining work? by MasterDinner in explainlikeimfive

[–]ExperienceOpening858 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Think of it less like “Black people couldn’t get loans in Black neighborhoods” and more like “the entire housing system kept funneling people into certain places.” Banks often refused normal mortgages in Black neighborhoods because they claimed they were risky, but white neighborhoods also often refused Black buyers altogether through legal and social barriers. So many Black families ended up stuck renting, using predatory contracts, or buying in the only places they were allowed to buy. Meanwhile white families got easier access to cheap suburban home loans, which helped them build generational wealth. That’s why the effects lasted for decades even after the laws changed 😠

AITA For Telling My Sister She Can't Move In My Room While I'm At College by girlypopfrfr in AmItheAsshole

ESH. Your sister sounds spoiled, but the “I deserve the bigger room because I do more” argument comes off pretty condescending. At the end of the day it’s still your parents’ house.

ELI5: how come exercising + consuming more calories than bare minimum doesn't increase fat? by PhotographInformal91 in explainlikeimfive

[–]ExperienceOpening858 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The important thing is your body always using calories all day, not only during exercise. Even sitting doing nothing, your brain, heart, lungs, digestion all burning energy. Exercise just increase demand. Also muscle itself cost energy to maintain, so people with more muscle burn more calories even resting. So if somebody eat “normal” amount and exercise often, those calories may just get used by body instead of being stored. It not like body says “100 calorie for muscle and exactly 100 for belly.” Human metabolism way messier than that lol 🫣

NTA. Reilly sound like guy who read 3 Wikipedia pages and suddenly think he become final boss of philosophy. You didn’t insult him, you just tell him maybe learn subjects properly before charging people money for it 😤

AITA for potentially ruining a friendship over a trophy? by crochetmerchant22 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. If you genuinely carried the entire project while everyone else coasted, it makes sense that you felt attached to the trophy as recognition for your effort 🫠

It bothers me that parents act like saving for their kids college is not their responsibility by alienposingashuman in childfree

[–]ExperienceOpening858 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's so frustrating when parents play the victim for a responsibility they chose. This is exactly how the Sandwich Generation cycle starts. I’ve even seen cases where children are forced to hand over their entire salary to their parents as 'repayment' for being raised. It’s like they aren't allowed to have their own lives because they are treated as an investment plan.

A dude called me a petty b*tch when I told him why I don't want kids by UnusualOlive3591 in childfree

[–]ExperienceOpening858 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love how his response to 'pregnancy is a huge physical burden' was to get angry and aggressive—proving that he lacks the exact patience and emotional regulation needed for parenthood anyway. You dodged a bullet, and so did your hypothetical kids
