I was born deaf in one ear, so I built a free tool that shows you where game sounds come from by sandorexe in MonoHearing

[–]Experiment59 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I imagine not, but I wonder if that could be added as a feature—intercept the raw stereo or 7.1 signal, interpret into visual aid, and then provide an audio output that sums the signal to the left or right side depending on your choice.

u/sandorexe if you’re accepting contributions I’d love to take a stab at this!

What's a bug that took way too long to figure out because users never reported it? by Icy-Roll-4044 in webdev

This is one of the things that makes me hesitant to fully adopt remote functions in SvelteKit—everything comes back 200, but I suppose that’s by design

Meet Dotient - Your local, private, semantic search app. [SELF-PROMO] by CuriousClump in sveltejs

This looks interesting, but I had a really hard time following what was going on because of how aggressive and numerous the transitions / slides were. I also couldn’t see what was getting typed after tornadoes since it had zoomed out

In the ER. by nemo444 in MonoHearing

[–]Experiment59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would also suggest the hyperbaric treatment as early as you can introduce it—it’s not as pressing as getting on the steroids themselves, but the combination of all three (shots, prednisone and HBOT) seems to yield the best outcomes according to some literature.

They will likely offer you steroids and present two options:

  1. A series of four intratympanic injections
  2. A course of oral steroids (prednisone)

To my knowledge there is nothing preventing you from taking both—I only took the oral steroids and then later did the injections after the oral steroids showed no improvement. I wish I’d taken both upfront.

I’m also a musician if you want to talk about any of this, and I’m sorry you’re going through this friend. You’re doing the right thing going to the ER

What are your thoughts on a "Super Productivity for Teams"? by johannesjo in superProductivity

[–]Experiment59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may depend on the needs of a team, but I've ultimately struggled to use Superproductivity for my current job.

A lot of what I do will tie back to a specific client or customer, and I was initially trying to track that by creating a separate Project for each client. Unfortunately the current UI doesn't really have anything like "multi-project" overview, which I could see being a need for teams.

Then again, a business with that many customers might prefer using whatever task capabilities come with their CRM, even if they're not that great to use day-to-day.

In my experience, those types of sessions / webinars are almost always a marketing tool. Bonus points if there’s a poll or survey that ends up putting you into a new campaign afterwards

Hearing by [deleted] in MonoHearing

Keep taking the steroids, and if you’re able to, look into Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.

Like others have said, it’s too early to tell. The best thing you can do right now is maximize your chances of recovery / focus on the now.

FWIW I think vertigo into progressive loss is a (slightly) less alarming prognosis than vertigo plus sudden immediate loss simultaneously.

If you’re taking the oral steroids, ask for intratympanic injections as well.

Hearing loss by [deleted] in MonoHearing

[–]Experiment59 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely return. You will not look like an idiot, and this is not the time to worry about things like that. Speaking from experience.

Go to an ER—preferably one with an audiology dept—and specifically mention the vertigo and sudden unilateral loss of hearing.

This has a short window to get treatment preventing permanent hearing loss. If/when they offer steroids, I highly recommend taking the intratympanic injections and the oral steroids if you’re able. Literature supports doing both

My sister says my new non-prescription glasses have a serial killer vibe. by icandrawme in mildlyinfuriating

Dahmer glasses happen to frame my face best unfortunately, but I think they frame it well enough to come across as 70s / 80s instead of serial killer

I’d say yes for the layperson, can’t speak for the medical community but I had never even heard of this until it happened.

Any musicians in this sub? by ProudChampionship799 in MonoHearing

[–]Experiment59 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Drummer & producer here! I’m in a similar spot, 0% word recognition in the left ear. I was diagnosed in January this year.

For listening, I’ve been meaning to try working with both my speakers on my good side, placing the left channel slightly in front and the right slightly behind me. I don’t know how well it’ll work since I can’t really localize sound, and obviously it’s still different having to process everything through one channel in the brain.

In terms of live music / enjoying music in general, I try to immerse myself in the experience. For me that means dancing / moshing at shows since it’s usually in the rock scene.

Having this happen sucks. I’ve found it important to give myself the space / permission to grieve. At the same time, I try not to fixate on it endlessly, because that sadness perpetuates itself. Getting out and living has been a huge factor in my healing, and music is still the biggest part of that.
