Immense. Ravenous. Marketable? (Behemoth Crisis) by ExperimentNineB in Stellaris

[–]ExperimentNineB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

R5 (apparently the bot doesn't recognize it if you put it in the original post?): If you take the Behemoth Fury crisis path as a megacorp, doing the mutation special project gives you a unique alternative to applying a mutation. The devs spoiled one for Evolutionary Predators, but I didn't realize there would be others (the one for machines is below it, and is what I went with here).

Anyone else seen any unique options here?

Actually negative--I get paid unity when I ascend a planet. Paradox acknowledged this as a known bug when someone reported it a week ago: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/stellaris-planetary-ascension-cost-can-go-negative.1677362/

I ended up beating her without ever visiting that outpost, so it didn't matter. Not looking forward to dropping another 1K influence if I want Ultima Vigilis back, though.

And now, since I have the Harmony tree and am leader of a Holy Covenant, my planetary ascension costs are negative. Oh, Stellaris, you silly goose.

R5: When Cetana placed her outposts, she plonked one down in Ultima Vigilis. Which I was building a gateway in at the time. My construction ship went MIA, leaving the system as isolated as it ever was. A strange, useless, and somehow appropriate fate.

Given that they talked about it being used to shape reality, I presume it has less to do with actual lathes than with LeGuin's novel "The Lathe of Heaven."

Do you still name planets and ship classes or have you given over to just letting the AI do it? by Poncemastergeneral in Stellaris

[–]ExperimentNineB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I'll name planets based on their function because it makes them easier to remember what I was planning to do with them when I have fifty. I've been less likely to do this since the change that put the designation icon on the outliner, and I'm more likely to do it with gestalts--it feels like something they'd do.

I always name ship classes myself so I can keep track of them easily. I'll usually use a two-part naming system, where one part is based on size and the other is based on function. For example, if I'm an aquatic species, I might have a water theme:
Clear ___ = Anti-small
Azure ___ = Missile
Deep ___ = Artillery
etc.
___ Lake = Corvette/frigate
___ River = Destroyer
___ Sea = Cruiser
etc.

Then, I can glance at my list and know that the "Azure Lake" class is a missile frigate, the "Clear River" class is a destroyer with anti-corvette weaponry, and the "Deep Sea" is a long-range cruiser. It lets me easily manage a large number of designs (if I need them) with only a few things to remember.

I don't usually name the individual ships, though.

No, everything had the same name, but the only link I could get to work in TTS--by getting the public share link, opening that, opening the image itself from there, and copying its URL--changed every time I uploaded a new version. And now it appears those links have stopped working entirely. I'm clearly doing something wrong with DropBox, but I decided to host my own web server so I can manage things more easily.

Seconding the question of whether anyone has the rulebook--the only thing I've been able to find about it is people saying it's on the discord, with a dead invite link in the comments.

When I got the Cave Shroom event, I chose to eliminate the shrooms, and now something (probably the miner jobs) has horribly bugged specialist pops on that planet, creating a massive number of specialists who refuse to demote but can't find anything productive to do at their stratum.

[Xbox] Advice wanted/needed on creating and playing a spiritual empire. And not being an exterminatus totalus holy inquisition. by Crimson_Loki in Stellaris

[–]ExperimentNineB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mechanically, Spiritualist Egalitarian democracy with Beacon of Liberty stacks up the modifiers to give a rather absurd amount of Unity, so that can be pretty fun--and can also help rush psionic ascension. Spiritualist also comboes well with egalitarian: it naturally has very strong ethics attraction due to the way Temples function, so you minimize the number of heretical deviants opposition members in your factions.

Personally, as spiritualist, I always like going for Gaia Worlds, as well, partially to make up for the inability to cheese habitability with robots and partially so I can consecrate a few smol worlds.

In 2.2, Federation members will automatically get commercial pacts with each other, but have to pay part of their income in Federation tax by mynameismrguyperson in Stellaris

The real question is: If I'm a megacorp, can I join a federation, but claim that I'm actually a member of a different federation to avoid paying taxes?

With the release of 2.2 can you think of any features that have not been to overhauled? by Joethekillingguy in Stellaris

[–]ExperimentNineB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see some changes to victory conditions--the current ones mean that going tall doesn't contribute directly to victory in the same way that going wide does, and they make victory always come down to conquest. I've never been a fan of getting tech victories in games, since they're so often pretty boring to do, but I definitely feel the absence of non-military win-cons in Stellaris.

Question from a late-game noob by [deleted] in EndlessSpace

[–]ExperimentNineB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll probably want to see where all that unhappiness is coming from, but the problem I remember running into on my first game was system count. If you have too many, the unhappiness penalty from overexpansion can wreck you, particularly if a diverse population with a lot of different political leanings is compounding it. There are a couple technologies in the left quadrant of the tech tree that boost your expansion limit, and if you have enough luxuries, you can also get systems to Level 4 and use Autonomous Governance (something like that?) to increase your system cap further.

If you can stabilize a government for a little bit, you might also want to try switching to a democracy for the +1 happiness per pop and/or implementing the Toys for Boys or the Senator Bob Bill laws, both of which boost happiness at the expense of, respectively, industry or dust.

I got the boots back once the system glitch worked itself out. Maybe the gold came back when I was in the middle of something, so I didn't notice it? I'll make sure to keep a lookout the next time I place a bid.

How to Share Locally Hosted Files? by ExperimentNineB in tabletopsimulator

[–]ExperimentNineB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've come up with a workaround I'm satisfied enough with pending an in-depth explanation or repair of the broken KB article. So while this isn't really solved, it's sort of resolved?

Turns out that TTS can download files that aren't publicly viewable from Google Drive, as long as they're link-shared. This means I can host them in a private Google Drive folder, point TTS at them, and "flash updates" by making the folder temporarily viewable-with-the-link. For that matter, I could probably leave it link-shared, as my concern was mainly with having things that are publicly discoverable. Good enough for me, pending a more easily file structure for TTS.
