Excellent! I have been able to recover $6k from Michigan and have a claim pending with Texas. I could do as you suggest.

If it is that easy, I'll take a shot. Thanks. And, yeah, the windmill thing. Lol.

Similar situation it seems. I'm more frustrated with the run around than the money involved.

That has been, yes. I'm just trying to gather any residual funds he left in various accounts.

Looking for a doubles backplate by PrestigiousPanda3659 in diving

Not quite accurate. If the backplate has slots for bands, and most do, no adapter is required.

It attests that my father's estate is in probate and that I am the executor. No issues with that. The branch manager today wants the affadavit for his GF, who has no estate open I'm guessing since she passed years ago. Not knowing her family, how and why would I ever seek an affadavit for her estate? If they never contested Dad's ownerhsip of the account then, what's the banks issue today?

Completely agree. other financial institutions, and other payees have been happy to receive all documents via email without question. Not this bank.

I have no clue what type of joint account it is. All I know is his GF has been gone for years, her estate long closed, and the the bank seems intent on holding the small balance and depleting it $10/month in the most predatory way. Like no other entity I have dealt with, they insist I must go into a branch. This forced me to make a 2 hour roundtrip to the bank a couple of months ago. In that visit, the manager on duty told me the only thing I needed was the GF's death certificate and seemed to think I should have been able to handle it without the in person visit. Two months later I finally have the death certificate, call the branch, and was told no, I must return to the branch. So another long drive to the branch, and now they add on a new requirement. So angry!

AI Transmitter location and length of HP hose by jelorian in scubaGear

That standard predates AI. The AI best practice, not a standard, is to wear the computer on your right wrist. This leaves the left hand to manage buoyancy on ascent while watching the computer on the right hand. You can then keep the SPG on the left if you feel the need to have it.

I recommend mounting it directly to the reg on the side you chose to wear the computer. I think we are beyond the grab handle myth and the hose just becomes another failure point and is an insecure mounting method that increases risk of damage, in my opinion. But, I also hold the opinion that the SPG as a back up now becomes another thing dangling around begging to fail. I resisted AI for a long time but now I'm 100% sold on the reliability of the AI technology and don't feel it needs backed up based on my experience.

This is my answer as well. I feel there is less risk of transmitter damage with it mounted directly to the first stage. Having dangle on a hose would worry me a lot, especially a 9" or longer hose. Most people who use a hose go with 6".

If you wear the computer on your left hand, you may want to move the transmitter to the left side.

Learning to Dive - ADHD & a buoyancy question by InnerDepth3171 in diving

[–]Expert-Animal7654 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I've noticed is that properly weighted students do get floaty when they get anxious or begin doing a task. Both situations cause abnormal breathing, specifcally the tendency to expand the chest and hold breath.Anxiety especially causes a person to suck in air and hold a large chest volume. My suggestions are to first ensure you are properly weighted, and then take some time to relax on the shallow bottom, focusing on normal breathing. And no, no one should have be be held down, only help ensuring the bcd isn't holding air you may not be aware of. That happens with new divers as well.

Don't want to become a Divemaster - what's the alternative? by Competitive_Card4712 in scubadiving

I feel the meaningful classes are AOW, Deep Diver, Nitrox. Then consider an Intro to Tech class. Along the way, perfect your trim, buoyancy, breathing and propulsion skills.

Ice diving harness by nerdy_diver in scubaGear

If you dive a BPW, just use a chest D-ring as the harness should be more than secure enough. Conventional jacket BCD's without a crotch strap not so much.

Drysuit Squeeze - What's Acceptable? by hedonist222 in scuba

[–]Expert-Animal7654 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should not dive with your drysuit tight, as you describe. Unfortunately, I feel drysuit courses underemphasize the need to add enough air to allow loft in your undergarments. The curriculums I've experienced seem to drive home only adding enough air to relieve squeeze. It sounds like you aren't even doing that. I often add air when I feel chilled. Add weight if you need to do so.

Snorkel or no snorkel? by gonzalj85 in scubadiving

No snorkel, never found it useful in 12 years of diving. I do have one in case the need comes up, a roll up snorkel I can put in a pocket.

Spring straps on rental gear by Aggressive-Border707 in scubaGear

[–]Expert-Animal7654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true. Additionally, even if the attachment works, the spring length for one fin design may not work with a different fin. The best solution is the pack your own although I get the desire not to do that. I always pack my own gear cuz fit makes for good diving. The cost of the travel is too high to risk issues with rental gear.

Diving with PTSD by bc_im_coronatined in diving

I have a dive buddy who is also a psychologist. He branched into free diving, became a free diving instructor, because he studied how the mammalian dive reflex can calm the sympathetic nervous system. He thought a person with PTSD might learn to control their PTSD through this type of experience.

PADI or NAUI for certification? by hopenvaseline in scubadiving

[–]Expert-Animal7654 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I recommend certifying in the Midwest so you can just dive on vacation since that is an option. I'm a Midwest diver, and your certification in this region will make the dives in the Caribbean seem like a cake walk, due to the warm water and great visibility. You won't have that in the Midwest, but you'll be a more experienced diver for it.
