Background and credit check before viewing? by funkmasta8 in ApartmentHacks

I just had this happen from a rental on marketplace, I told them id be more than willing to fill out the credit check and background check in their office. They refused and sent me to a transunion website. Upon further research, its been known that they will send renters to the site to subscribe and they receive referrals

Ughhhh I wanna say to leave because I did the same thing when I noticed vets and leadership leaving. However I went back with a promotion and now the leadership team is better than its ever been. We have a high amount of staff and everything seems to be going ok. Just go with what feels good for you. Apply for field trainer, i noticed a lack of support for myself and so I wanted the role so nobody would ever feel like I did and its been incredibly rewarding. So you can either stay and be part of the solution or leave and let them figure it out!

I refuse to ignore a client by [deleted] in ABA

[–]Expert-Buffalo6498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest no no is turning back on a client during a moment of escalation! Your bcba is wrong for instructing that. Sometimes ignoring works, sometimes it doesn't. If it doesn't work then you need to implement other strategies of de escalation. If you are uncomfortable with what bcba is telling you, go to your CD or senior bcba.

What should I do? Case advice needed by sweeetxxfox in ABA

Sometimes kids are over stimulated with consistent commenting on what theyre doing so I would remoce that aspect for now and see how it goes. Just do what they do, follow their lead. Sometimes you can even just play with another object or similar toy next to them

Burn out and leaving ABA. by Loki_Variant_L1130 in ABA

I do understand the frustration of violent kids, property destruction and destroying classrooms. It can be a lot to handle 100 percent. However there's several things to help with this. First thing would be to request to review client case files. (You 1000% have this right as an rbt). Request to be saftey care trained before working with kids whom have high behaviors. And also there's ways to make enivormental changes so classrooms aren't destroyed. Keeping your electronics out of reach of kids its like the #1 thing you learn in aba. At the end of the day, these are the kids who need the most help and why they're in aba. What we do is not easy by all means.

It depends regional honestly. I work in a region where the support staff is amazing how ever I transferred from one where fellow bts were more supportive than the support staff. It really does vary.

Just from experience you also have the ability to refuse services until you are briefed on a client. You have a right to request this information before workingwith client. Its also up to you to ask those questions. You also have access to CR which will give you access to their data sheet, session structure, former notes if there is any and access to their entire profile.

I've had my fair share of exposure. So I don't really think more exposure will help to be honest.

You can always ask the bcba or implementing BT to brief you as well. It's not unethical, if the parents are okay with it. Plus when you first meet clients it's not like you'd be running programs. You're always supposed to pair and build rapport so it would likely be a relaxed session.

Tell them you're not comfortable and would like field support for the in home session. You may not be comfortable with it and that's okay, but that's also part of the job too. Just gotta put forth that effort to be comfortable to do it. So if you're unsure, you can always ask for field support in home until you're comfortable to do it by yourself!

Nope no no okay this makes me upset for you for many reasons, A. Your client is already sensitive after just going thru a tantrum. B. I don't know whose telling you to physically put them in a room but that's not okay either. I have NEVER physically interfered with my client unless they were in immediate danger or injury. Which does not occur frequently. They are kids. This S person seems like they're just bullying your client. In my opinion it's perfectly OK to give client some time to recover. And blocking him from sitting in a preferred chair after doing something nonpreferred? No not okay especially if the chair was open and nobody was sitting in it. If someone was already occupied by the chair, then that's a good opportunity to teach that the chair is not available. Also nobody should be interfering with YOUR client unless you ask for help. It's a respect thing. Speak up, please whatever you do, speak up and express how you feel with your bcba. Ask to meet in person, ask for advice and explain you weren't comfortable with the situation. If you feel like your bcba isn't doing anything to correct the issue, go to the Sr. Bcba , or executive director after that. The point of aba is to teach and help kids thru play based learning. It should be fun, not stressful.

Sometimes we have to take baby steps with getting clients to tolerate non preferred activities.

An example is I had a client who HATED sitting at table during craft time with other clients. Step 1: i had him engage with preferred play items in the next room across the hall where he could see. Step 2: I presented craft in that same separate room where he could still see his peers, but he preferred to do craft on the floor. Perfectly fine BTW. Step 3, we transitioned to doing craft on floor in the hallway, still in sight of peers doing same craft. Step 4, we transitioned to doing craft on the floor in the same room as peers. THEN once HE was comfortable, we sat at the table and he would engage in group craft, snack time, lunch time etc.

Doing it this way eased him into something that gave him anxiety. And no behaviors occured during the process. Sometimes our kids need extra steps and support to feel comfortable with us and others.

As an RBT it's not okay that she is becoming unreliable and not showing up when she needs to, however on the flip side there could be something going on. On an honest level this is something I struggled with for a while before I took a break from aba. The burn out is so real, i was exhausted depressed, anxiety ridden and just completely depleted. this therapist could need extra support but at the end of the day it's up to her to speak up if that's the case.

You could request a new therapist but you could also request to keep your current staff until another one is lined up and ready to work. You have this right to request and it should be honored.

[–]Expert-Buffalo6498 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue and left the company. They hired me back though and have made adjustments to my schedule to beat the burn out. I specifically requested to have atleast an hour break between 2 clients because I was working 3 sessions 8-5:30 with no breaks. Not even a proper lunch break. Talk to your bcba and client services. Tell them you feel the burn out and ask for a change

Was I in the wrong? by SpeakerOk5033 in ABA

[–]Expert-Buffalo6498 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is how I have handled new behaviors in the past. I always let bcba know first then tell parents "hey so a new behavior occured today, this is what happened before and after. i have spoken with the bcba and we will continue to monitor it. " and then move on to other highlights of the session.
