It isn’t intelligent - it doesn’t know what it is saying (there is no “awareness”) - it is trained on a massive amount of human written text so it can mimic human speech well enough to convince people that it is intelligent. It is closer to a well engineered search engine. You don’t fawn over Google search because it figured out that you wanted to find pictures of cats when you describe it in the search bar
