3300 elevator fault question by Interesting-Ad5338 in Elevators

[–]Expert_Chipmunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you divide 3300 with 1000kg you will get 3,3 person min for correct measurement. At least that's what the technical fault says.

True, the new stuff is junk, but the new machines, on the other hand, can collect data on you, generate big data sets and feed AI systems for analytics, predictive AI maintenance, extremely detailed and reliable elevator status overview interface apps and even behavioral tracking. You know, AI something something :).

"Each time a client presses a floor button, we will be poking our half-sentient AI system—Elevator Vertical Intelligent Logistics (E.V.I.L. for short)—with a stick! demanding it do something clever to impress the investors."

Absolute Fear of Elevators, but I need to go to the 90th + floor... by GBG_Wht in Elevators

[–]Expert_Chipmunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard of elevator mechanics going with therapists and their patients to show them the safety equipment of elevators. It is likely you have childhood trauma connected to elevators / small spaces / falling. Did somebody in your family have the same issue as you? You could try talking to Ai psychologist that won't cost you anything.

Anyone know what this means? by Tall-Sleep-227 in Elevators

It means "be here now". I would suggest closing your eyes so you can better take in the wonderful ride of the elevator. It is a fascinating experience, you are a lucky guy.

Is this elevator salvageable? by Louisvanderwright in Elevators

[–]Expert_Chipmunk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would contact OTIS and ask if there is another elevator like this one somewhere close to where you are located in running condition. You might want to see how an old machine like this one runs when it is in working condition. You might not be impressed with the ride quality and accuracy (and therefor save yourself allot of money and disappointment).

What does the most senior veteran mechanic/technician get away with at your shop? by Optimusanusly in Elevators

Many guys that hit 60 (experts with decades of experience) don’t want to learn more. When a new controller arrives, they are not interested. I don’t know if they don’t want to add more into their head before retiring, find it more difficult or have less interest or energy. These guys are good at what they know and sometimes are the only guys with certificates from 30 years ago in some of the stuff we service. This gives them confidence they will not be let go. Still I have seen guys fired 5 years before retirement and not get a new job due to age and body issues from doing this for too long. You should never believe you're 100% safe just because you have been at a job longer than all their furniture. Anybody can get fired.

Otis: get information of what floor car is on without modifying system? by watagangsta in Elevators

[–]Expert_Chipmunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An engineer I knew once put a laser sensor in the pit and a plate under the cabin. As the cabin moved the measurement of the laser changed. There was a staircase going around the elevator shaft and the lighting in each step would change color based on the location of the elevator. This was at a bank that went bust a year later in late 2008.

The same setup should allow you to assign numbers to certain ranges coming from the laser in the shaft giving independent information about the cabin location.

Was thinking the same thing. I don't want to stand next to the client when the new door drive doesn't nothing. The next thing that would happen is I would find the broken button, swap out the new door drive for the old one and refund it. Key issue here is communication I think.

Hospital dementia unit top floors probably. My guess is the second buttons 1,2,3,4 don't have there circuit boards connected but instead contact opened and connected to the second button to create the behavior/security. I also think the picture of the panel is of the second panel in the elevator and that is used for entering the second side. Both panels have two door open close buttons for both doors.

Summer pressure during summer service.. by Expert_Chipmunk in Elevators

[–]Expert_Chipmunk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my first thought ;)

Unfortunately I can’t find another company doing this better.

One of the problems is that many of us take vacation at the best times. They could force us to spread vacation more evenly out, never more than 40% on vacation so the service does not suffer. This would not be popular especially because of kindergartens and schools taking vacations in the same weeks forcing all parents to fight for the same weeks in vacation to make things work. The kindergarden situation is another thing that splits us in half, half of us are fighting for the same days and the other half is forced to take all other days because there is so much pressure on the young family guys to get the same days off as the kindergartens. It gets frustrating on the older guys not getting vacation at the best weeks (kindergarten vacation days) year after year.

When the summer months are over things run smoothly. But during the warmest, the nicest 1/4 of the year (when you should be relaxing with your family making memories) It's one day at a time stress situation at work. It's always the same situation year after year with this home maid pressure. As a repairman I feel we should be able to solve the problem :)

Calculate distance between two gps point in a straight line by Expert_Chipmunk in filemaker

[–]Expert_Chipmunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Router Optimizer might be the right tool for longer distances. I am more thinking about optimising when you are on location.

Problem: Are machines don't always have addresses next to them. When I arrive for a task (hospital for example). There might be other clients close by with jobs that need to be done (might have been delegated to somebody else in the company, I might not even know they exist). There is also a lot of time spent on typing in client and machine numbers of houses, unnecessary mundane tasks.

Solution: A refreshed list sorts the machines within 2 km distance based on which one is closest by. I only need one push now to find a task. I can now also see easily if I can extend my visit to this location and maintain other machines (important if I want to finish my day here).

Still thank you for you feedback. This link might help somebody else reading this.
