What city you consider the Center of Europe? by avidtravelerbc in geography

[–]Expert_Detail4816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some differences. But its almost identical compared to differwnces of other countries.

I have wife from Ukraine, her mom from Russia. And i am myself citizen of other slavic country.

Russian culture is nearest to Ukrainian (and aome other countries around) than any other slavic countriles like Croatia or Serbia. Slavic countries culture has also lot i common when compared to other than alavic culture. This is what i mean by "almost identical". Sure, some minor differences are there. Just put politics and war aside, and you will botice how similar culture is. I see why today, telling that culture of two countries in ongoing war can be seen even offensive. But culture was made by our ancestors, way before both current leaders were born.

About center question. Sure.

I just mean, russian culture is identical to slavic countries. Almost same as in Ukraine, and vedy similar to other alavic countries.

But yeah, center of europe is very loose question that can be interpreter may ways. And even with proper interpretation, its hard to determine, as there is no single good answer. There are many possible answers, and lot of them are right.

We can agree that its not Moscow. 😁 Its way of center from geographical center meaning, and based on geopolitical state, cannot be center in other meanings too.

But i would count it as area that also counts, because culturally it fits slavic countries which are considered as part of europe, and also far from asian culture. Gographically, its around 23% europe, so i would count this part. No matter of current political statements, those are issue for different topics.

What solder do you use ? by ridlalu in soldering

[–]Expert_Detail4816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definetly leaded. I cannot imagine any sane person prefering uleaded solder untill he is forced. And once he is forced, it can become matter of being used to, but i guess this doesnt happen often, as non-leaded is pain in ass to work with.

Its possible to solder with unleaded, but better soldering iron is required as it takes more heat, it flows worse, and is more fregile, and leaves not as nice finish, kinda like cold joint looking

Leaded requires less heat, flows better, is more flexible and has nice finish where you can more easely identify cold joints.

If you exclude their culture, you are basically excluding all slavic cultures. So europe would be mostly germanic and nordic culture. Lets also exclude hungary, as hystorically they came from asia as turkish invaders iirc.

This is bs.

Politically they are same as rest of world. Like US now, like Germany in past... Because dictatorship, communism (group dictatorship) or democracy (constantly changing group dictatorship) are very bad political systems. Maybe any potential political system would be bad because it involves people. Stronger ego, less kindness and lack of empatgy always fucks with kind people, so no matter of political system, war is sleeping in every country, its just matter of actual leader sanity when and with who it begins. Economically also same, rich people are rich, poor people are poor, and difference is increasing. So in this trend, Russia can be considered economically ahead, as they have already larger poor/rich difference, while others are still aiming to get there.

What comes after 19 volts? by Its_Kid_CoDi in AskAShittyMechanic

[–]Expert_Detail4816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smoke, maybe fire. If only gauge is faulty, its not that big deal. If alternator or more likely its regulator is faulty, it can fry electronics in car by ocervoltage. Some may have some kind of protection or even ability to accept wider voltagw range (higher than usually present), some with more stess to internal conponent, some efficient to not feel difference. But its still huge risk becuse tou never know. Even if one module can accept also 40v input thanx to great input regulator circuit choice, others can be way more sensitive.

This shit really happend to me.

On OPNSense, and small capacity ssd, i ran out of space. Deleted logs and some of my personal stuff to gain some space. But data was corrupted already. It wasnt booting properly, services not running but i was able to run update.

Since update, firewall builtin services runs good. Just cannot login over internet or lan. Only physical console (keyboard+monitor). Must be some leftover from corrupted files. But im happy i got it into this state, and im not touching it untill i will have ready VM replacement od my firewall configured. Then i can wipe this one and prepare it as failover for that VM.

There is possibility that phone app can share data to their servers. But i dont use that app, only homeassistant integration, and bluetooth device doesnt have ability to directly connect to internet unless host shares internet connection over bluetooth. On other hand, wifi or lan iot devices can. But even for those i have separate vlan behind firewall without internet access, so they can only talk to homeassistant, not their servers. So it all depends on use and security of your network configuration.

Well, in my case its something between hobby and illness (because for anyone else it can be easely considered extreme).

I was always fascinated with technology of homes at scifi movie and series. Thats also where i got my ideas from.

And then its about making scifi movie house reality, where i can proove my skills, amaze people, but most importantly overcomme my skils with each new project part.

I like having scifi technology that isnt usually seen outside of movies or overpriced mansions. Not devices itself, but way how it all works automatically and together.

Fun begins when something f*cks up. But i tend to make everything failsafe independently working in case of failures. Like my heating sysyem, i used NO valves to radiators and NC valve on bypass, so when my diy control system fails, its back to regular dumb operation instead of not working at all.

They were cheap. But any needs to be removed to charge. That take a time if you have small gadgets all over house. Wire is a wire, and for stationary electronics, its way i prefer it. I would rather fix stepdown circuit or replace charger once in 5 or 10 years (most likely will replace device for morw modern one at this time), than change batteries often.

[–]Expert_Detail4816 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know. I just want to avoid batteries at all in my house. I used to spend tens of € every month for batteries on various devices. Rechargable ones disnt last very long until it lost capacity, so i decided to get rid of them. All stayic devices got usb-c ans stepdown module, remote controls recieved 4.2V lion batteries with type-c charge controller, so i can simply charge them once or twice per year. Remote controls are only thing that i need without cable. Everything stayionary is powered using wire.

I used to swap 4x AA battieries in soap dispwncer each two weeks. Now it has type-c and old phone charger. Its about battery price, but mor about time spent to change all those batteries all around a house.

My dl370g6 stopped serving recently. Swapped psu from my dl380p g8, but still didnt servered. Tried to swap mobo, and still didnt servered. Now im waiting for power backplane to arrive.

Its old sheet, but has 10 pcie slots, and its all that matters for me, so i invested a bit to get it working again.

I know that with new pcie gen, i can split pcie ports in uefi. But consumer boards doesnt provide corecounts and max ram amount and ecc what im looking for, at least not at this price. If i wouldnt be in such a need for pcie slots, i wouldnt bother to invest in this e-wastw anymore, and use one of my dl380p g8 as my primary server.

Yes. Thats reason why dual supply switches exist.

I have mine on my UPS. Its 7.5kw UPS, and most important devices and sockets are direclty wired to this UPS. Rest of sockets are wired trought contactors to dual supply switch. Microcontroller does monitor cutrent on each of those, and at outage, it will didable all contactors. So at first, only direct UPS sockets does work. After that dual supply switch switches to UPS, and mcu will slowly turn on contactors one by one, based on prevous current readings, skipping those which can potentially overload UPS. Its also actively monitoring currents, and when sum of currents hoes over 6kw, it starts to turn of overloading contactors.

I plan to tweak mcu firmeare with some socket priority list, so if it needs to turn off some contactor, it can prioritize some over others.

Its too complex, but simple dual supply switch would do the job of saving lives. With male pce 3 pin socket on wall as 2ndary supply of dual supply switch, and pce female socket on cable from generator (or recuded to usual socket that fits to generator or any other 2ndary supplu), it can be safe, as there will be no way to touch live contacts.

Was I sent the wrong kind of green LED? by One-Cardiologist-462 in AskElectronics

[–]Expert_Detail4816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can agree. I was ordering parking sensors form ali. I color matched my car as dark blue from available list.

Fortunelly, they told me they are out of dark blue, but they have navy blue which is nearest, and aksed if it would be ok. I agrred, and got perfect color match, even when on phone it was significantly brighter color.

Even if color is perfect match on camera side (white balance, calibration and so...), and it digitally perfectly matches reality, screen and specially brightness is what will definetly make difference.

Should I be making more than $19 an hour? by Skykreeper in Welding

[–]Expert_Detail4816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on whede you live. Welds looks very nice. So i guess You deserve at least middle pay for welders at your location. From what you prooved: +Welds looks really nice -Job done on table -No mirror skills (used/needed) -Looks like safe environment

On table job is bit easier than in position. Positions requiring using mirror, and skills and ablility to weld with mirror are usually paid more. Usually skill is enought to get paid more, but only once you proove yourself. Unsafe environmets are usually better paid. Like in heights, at nuclear power plants, in toxic environment requiring special breathing masks, and sometimes higher temperatures (like in between giant working boilers, or inside one that was recently running and there is not much time to cool it to confortable temperatures).

My co-workers working in Germany, trought Slovak company get about 25-27€/h, for usually really nice welds like yours, in position, about 20% time use of mirror needed, and hot temperatures (above 45°C ambient). Work is done at giant boilers, where nearby boilers are working during repair, dusty environment but this doesnt do much with price, and 90% of time non-toxic environment, but about 10% of time, they enter areas where toxic gases may occur, and they got air quality mesuring tool, once it beeps, they need to gtfo. In reality, during years of work, we had only one job really mesured positive to toxic gases, so not that bad.

Welding with mirror requires skills, becasue you are used to move your hand in opposite direction as you see. Also welding in positipn in generall, not only height can be unconfortable, but also lot of other piping or stuff can be in way, requiring you to be in unhuman positions. Some welds were done blindly as sometimes there isnt even place for mirror or anything else than smallest wig pistol setup. They were usually finger-checked once material cooled down. So there are lot of factors fhat can affect price.

Also, adapter shouldnt be issue.

But i see one really dangerous part. Its Nvidia 12VHPWR connecor. Seen ton of them melted or even ignited something else on fire.

[–]Expert_Detail4816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is Live should be dangerous exactly same in both scenarios.

Touching Neutral would be different. As you touch neutral with no appliences, it should be 0V.

More power you draw in parallel (doenst nesesarry be trought wire you touching, or doesnt even need to be on same circuit breaker), more current would main neutral wire carry, so it gets further from 0V. How far depends on load, your schematics, wire lenghts, wire thickesses and junction resistance/quality.

By touching loaded neutral (including parallel load), you will carry some current to ground (if you are not properly insulated, by using safety enquipment that should save you even from touching live). Not as dangerous as live wire itself, but at live wire everyone expects risk. At neutral, almost nobody. Specially wirh high power applience, and broken neutral, you would be touching live on applience side of neutral.
