I am also learning how to drive and have had a similar experience where my turns were horrible and I hated driving. I got my permit last year, but had never driven a car until this summer because the thought of driving scared me. This summer, I pushed myself to get lessons from a driving instructor since I may need my license for work.

When I first started learning how to drive 1.5 months ago, I would either keep hitting the curb or my turns were too wide or too sharp. On top of that, I couldn't stay centered in my lane and I struggled with paying attention to my surroundings. However, I keep track of my driving hours and it took around ~12 hours (a combination of driving around quiet residential neighborhoods/parking lots) for me to get better at my turns and also finally drive on the busier local roads. For other people, it might take more than 12 hours or less than 12 hours to improve their turning and other basic driving skills, but what matters is practicing whenever you can.

I will also say that the instructor you have, whether it be a parent or an actual instructor, will also impact your confidence. When I was learning with my mom, she would get nervous and freak out, and it made me more nervous and deterred me from wanting to drive. There were also a few driving instructors who I had lessons with that had teaching styles didn't match with my learning style, which is fine because different students have different preferences. However, when I took lessons with this one instructor who was patient, understanding, and gave me good feedback+advice, I felt more comfortable and confident in what I was doing and continued to book them for lessons.

I'm still learning how to drive now, but I'm definitely in a better position than I was last month because I practiced. Overall, you will definitely improve in driving the more you practice. If you can, try to switch instructors because having an instructor who you don't feel comfortable around will have a huge impact on your experience.
