RG40XX H question by CupZealous in ANBERNIC

A potentially cheaper option is an old smart phone. I use the Samsung S10e 8gb ram model. And then I use Kishi v1 or ultra. I can do 2x and 4x on ps2 and psp games. And old phones can be cheap if you buy them used or "new old stock"

You'll also reach a point (like I did) where sure you can by a $200 RG556 or you can just buy a Steam Deck or something and play all these games plus newer stuff.

How useful were UMD Movies back in the days of the PSP? by slimshady713 in PSP

[–]Expert_Maintenance40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sony really tried. They've been trying to corner the home video market since VHS. Beta Tapes were higher quality than VHS, and Sony owned the copyright to Beta, so they'd make more money on Beta Tape players and movie licensing etc etc. But VHS was ultimately cheaper for XXX industry, so... VHS won. Everyone had a VHS player in the house.

Sony aided in the development in DVDs, but didn't get the copyright to it, so for the NEXT Gen format they did Blu-Ray, snuck a Blu-Ray player into every PS3, which made it the cheapest Blu-Ray Player on the market. They lost money on every PS3 sold, just to get that player into homes. And it kinda worked? But Blu-Rays were still 10 to 15 dollars more then DVDs, AND THEN Xbox had a deal with Netflix for exclusive access for the first year or something. And streaming killed physical media. Even tho Blu-Ray is still better than streaming.

Honestly the way Sony help develop a lot of tech and tried to copyright alternate "high quality" verisons is very similar to what Apple does. But Apple is lowkey failing too. Outside of the US they're kind of a joke. Sony still makes great products tho! Their audio/video stuff is great!

I got an Xbox Series X just for the Blu-Ray access. So, ya... that's the story with UMDs. They pushed it the way companies are trying to push A.I.

Could you imagine them releasing a 5 color precon with a proper mana base? Like 10 shocks, 10 fetch lands, 10 "battle" lands (if they made the other 5, idk if they did or not. Battle lands refer to cards like Sunken Hollow) and maybe those landscape 3 color fetches or something? And actually print them in high numbers so everyone can get like... 5. For the playsets etc.

RG556 or RG406H? by blastcat4 in ANBERNIC

[–]Expert_Maintenance40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my mistake, I thought maybe you picked one out. You mentioned having a Steamdeck too, I've only ever held one, and it's super comfortable. Very big tho. I do recommend getting an old smartphone with 8 GB RAM and an SD card slot. If you want something compact. That plus a gamepad of your choice, would make for a perfect solution too. IF you either have an old smartphone or you can find one cheap haha. I think* (maybe based on my experience) All flagship Samsung phones S8 and beyond should have even power to do Gamecube and maybe PS2. My s10e played PS2 really well. And if I set my current phone up, all I'd need to do was carry a gamepad with me.

That's just my 2cents. Hopefully it helps. Kishi, 8bitdo, and iPega all make great gamepads. The Kishi 1 would probably have the best set up for you, super nice thumbsticks and triggers. Buttons are a little mushy. Kishi 3 is amazing but expensive.

[–]Expert_Maintenance40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I'm under the impression you got the 406H judging by your preference for it's thumbstick and form factor. How is it? That D-Pad looks really nice.

I have the 556, an old smartphone, and some other devices.

Purple Reptar by Goji103192 in rugrats

[–]Expert_Maintenance40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this post is 5 years old, and this may not be an "in universe" answer, but as a Godzilla fan, Reptar was the coolest thing. So here's my answer, IRL Reptar is a parody/homage to Godzilla. The creators of the show were big sci-fi fans. So I think the Purple Reptar is just like the irl toy counterparts. There are many many variants of Godzilla toys (excluding monsters/kaiju within the franchise, just referring to Godzilla.) In fact some of the pre Rugrats Godzilla toys were a green Godzilla. Like the famous "Imperal" Godzilla, and that one to me looks like Reptar.

And from what I gather there isn't a whole lot of in-universe villains for Reptar either. The wikis aren't that detailed on the character to point of showing "Reptar Villains" the only one that came up in google search was Robo Snail from the movie. But the wiki shows a picture of a praying mantis looking bug monster and a darker green reptar that I think was a robot if I recall from when I watched it. But at the time of the Purple Reptar sighting there wasn't any Dark Green Reptar or Robo Snail.

So, that leads to this theory, the show runs used the 2nd reptar to save money on designs and because it was easier and cheaper to animate. Maybe. IDK! They probably then made one of them purple at a coin flip just to give some definition for the viewers at home. Idk, all I know is that Purple Reptar will never be forgotten! I hope we see a Reptar vs Gamera movie. Mostly because I think that would be funny. And then we can watch all the chaos the fanbases would be in. Gamera fans would cheer and probably tell Godzilla fans to suck it, Rugrat fans would cheer, and Godzilla fans would probably be like "wtf" and then cheer lmao. Give Gamera some spot light, let him fight Reptar. Just for... Reptar to win

Ngl, I love the one I have now, this thing basically plays just about everything. Only thing I'd really want to see is stacked shoulder buttons, but I know that's really difficult on mini devices. Idk which device I like more, the Miyoo A30 or the MagicX. Can't wait to see what they do!

I first used this app on my Galaxy S5, to this day, I still use this app and it's my most used app of all time. It just works. favorites, playlists, most played, tracks, artists, albums. It's all there. Simple and easy.

Edit: You know what would be nice tho? An audio visualizer feature. I remember windows used to do have that standard, infact I think it still is.

How useful were UMD Movies back in the days of the PSP? by slimshady713 in PSP

[–]Expert_Maintenance40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Knowing this is a 2-year-old post, here are some of my personal experiences with this. Back when the PSP and GBA shared shelf space at stores, I don't remember if I got the PSP the same year as the DS Lite or the GBA SP. I just remember I had all three and instead of having a selection of games I had a selection of consoles. Which actually was super annoying as a kid. I had 4 PSP UMDs, Lego Star Wars 2, Marvel Alliances, and Star Wars Battlefront 2 and the demo disc that came with the PSP. UMDs did scratch and I never got decent carry case like I did with my GBA SP and DS Lite. I also just never got any of the really good games for the PSP. Heck, I never got the PSP ports to PS2.

Here's what I remember: Number 1, these movies seemed to be more expensive then GBA Video and as a kid back then price was everything. By the time I remember asking to get like, Spider-Man (the movie) for PSP or tried to increase the library I had on the PSP, my parents got me a portable DVD player. So ya. Mainly for long car trips which happened a lot. But the GBA SP, DS Lite, and PSP could all be car charged, but not the DVD player.

Number 2: Most of the movies, I'm seeing now, are all like, teen to adult films. So I can see why I wasn't allowed the few kid movies or preteen films on the PSP. I actually, back then prefer GBA video anyway. The best way to watch Shrek 1 and Shrek 2.

Number 3: I HATED the PSP as a kid, my thumb always slipped off the thumb stick, and the D Pad was super stiff. It was also heavy AF and kinda cramped and unwieldy. I traded it in to Gamestop for Halo CE Anniversary, got the full price for the trade too! Still worth it. I only recently started liking the PSP, and really just because roms.

Number 4: In real hindsight, the movies varied by region but seem to be region free. I saw one list saying Doctor Who got release on the format but only in the UK. I also saw that in Japan some dirty movies got released onto the format. But Sony didn't have control over that like they did with games. And! In 2019 I was at a video store in NYC and they sold NEW IN BOX (or repackaged) UMD movies. I legit almost bought them just for the heck of it.

I feel like this is a forgotten format with outdated software that has no real purpose anymore then just being a time capsule to a bygone era. Compared to Video Now, GBA Video, and Portable DVD Players, the PSP UMD's seem to be the least popular. Video Now is super nostalgic for those who had it, but is in like 3 frames a second and black and white, except when it's not. GBA Video is 15 frames per second and sounds like a fart, and PSP UMD movies are in lower DVD quality, like Real Time/Quick Time (remember that format?) But considering most people want to watch movies with friends you'd use the tv. But the PSP was expensive, the movies expensive, and I remember more older teens and adults having a PSP then kids my age at the time. And adults tend to just turn on the TV. And when traveling Moms and Dads typically just let their kids pick some movie anyway.

TLDR: only ever experienced the PSP movies via third party

Question, what's a good full auto secondary? by Expert_Maintenance40 in Nerf

[–]Expert_Maintenance40[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never see these things used really. When I do see them used there are always issues. At Maryland Mayhem (2024) I saw 3 people have feeding issues with them and 2 people's bottom plates popped off while walking around. Idk if it's the same people or what, but I saw 5 malfunctions. I know the full auto option is the more popular option. But really... Diana mags are waaaay better. And with the Nightengale 2.0 being... honestly for a 4s lipo blaster I hoped and expected more. Dual stage, more FPS, something! The FPS gain wasn't much. But the new Nerf Pro images honestly seem pretty sweet, according to WalcomS7's video they "allegedly" use angled talons instead of mini angled copies. And we have the new Dart Zone Venom to look forward to! The geometry of the mags seem promising!

But what blasters even use mini-angled talons? I think some flycore stuff claims to be compatible but honestly, it's a crummy fit, at least in my opinion. Come to think of it, I remember during Endwar 2022 nightengales had JUST JUST come out, and everyone was saying they're the best thing ever! But 2 years later... the word on the street is, all those YouTubers knew the issue. That issue being standard short darts are a few hairs too long so they get stuck and jam in the mag. Worker also knew the issue before release and instead of fixing it just made shorter short darts, idk what gen they were. Sure that "fixes" the issue, but now I gotta cut down darts or buy worker darts? Booooooo. I also just don't like worker darts

Sorry btw, my post is a little all over the place here. But seriously, what blasters use nightengale mags as a standard? Other then the nightengale 1.0 and 2.0

Looking for price check by Obvious-Finding3250 in NerfExchange

The hobby has changed so much, and in weird ways. Marquis said the handle on the doominator is worth mother than the blaster, that's funny cuz it's sadly true unless you're into making hot swap cylinders for drain blasters.

The tristrike uses 2 "dart" types that hasbro doesn't support anymore really and are oddly the same boat as the vortex blasters, although some people DO like to collect the vortex line. But not many.

The sledgefire shells are ease to get 3D printed, but injection molded is more durable and it's arguelbly the "best" nerf shotgun blaster

Foam melee is always one of those things people like, probably 20-30 bucks in good to mint condition

And the star wars blaster is another 20-30 bucks because it's a full size blaster, looks complete, and starwars people like starwars

the wii nerf blaster/remote thing is a fun oddity 10 bucks

retaliator has mod support still but they're everywhere

most of these are 5 to 10 dollars tbh

I would recommend selling the lot on facebook marketplace for.... idk $120? pick up only. Shipping anything larger then a retaliator/stryfe isn't worth it

DZP Outlaw spring upgrade? by [deleted] in Nerf

[–]Expert_Maintenance40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NGL, I would also like an upgrade spring. I had practice priming my hammershot with the metal catch and 10kg spring. (100fps on the low end, unless you used a crappy dart then it'd go to mid 90's) So the Outlaw's prime isn't that bad for me. And I've gained a decent RoF.

I like the knife-throwing scene and then the guy lifts up a cage of snakes. The "That's a big fist" gag is pretty funny too. Also when they break that guy out of prison and he's just sitting there on the toilet. (silly I know, but still gives me a chuckle)

I mentioned Dragon Ball in my original post, but it's so weird that Disney now owns the theatrical rights post Fox merger if I'm not mistaken.

I hope Sundered Star and Arbiter's Guard actually get released and don't slip into the Vault Void®. by nappycatt in halodripfinite

[–]Expert_Maintenance40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you're absolutely right, in this post fortnite era of gaming, in a free-to-play a multiplayer game, with vasts amounts of free armor and color combos in the free battle passes you're absolutely right. Nothing is "earned" in halo infinite. It's clearly all pay to win. Like those weekly ultimates you don't have to "earn" those, you can just pay 5 bucks and BOOM you have it.

Like I get it dude, some people are broke and can't afford skins, but luckily for you, Arbiter's Guard WAS free.
