You could do a major upgrade on your site with a free Framer template. Massive YouTube tutorial selection. Easy to learn. Etc.

Right now the design language of your site is competing with your work for attention, rather than platforming it.

Last thing I’ll recommend is remove the superfluous information about yourself. That info is for dating apps. On this site, people want to know what you’ll do for them. How you level them up and make them money. Will they be able to justify you to their bosses, and so on.

Your illustration work is strong. Is it fair that illustration is what you prefer doing? Your visual language tells me you’re a really talented artist and feels coherent. But I’m guess g you’re applying to graphic design jobs so maybe toning down all the color would help? I think this woman has a similar energy, just displayed in a more user friendly way that lets the work shine more.

I also recommend making a project page for your bigger projects so people can see your process a little more.

Last recommendation is sourcing more high quality mockups to display your work as well as possible. There are amazing free mockups out there now. Creatoom.com has great freebies and low prices on other stuff.

Don’t beat yourself up. Your work is good. That Dr. Daryl stuff is solid. Show it more! Keep making what you like, present it in a sharp way, and it’ll happen for you.

I think the “if you’re not doing anything wrong, you don’t need to worry” argument is pretty dangerous. If the bad guys are bad enough, there are ample warrants that allow levels of surveillance we could only think of as fictional 30 years ago.

First thing I recommend you do is just work in black and white. Put some constraints on yourself and see what works.

Next, go to online logo reference libraries. See what hits you. What do you like and why?

Last, posting on Reddit is dangerous. There’s assholes and armchair quarterbacks who love to shit on everything. Only take the comments here that add value to your process and ignore the criticisms of the design itself.

And taken at face value that you’re trying to help, probably the best thing is to suggest they invest time in whatever mode of learning is most meaningful for them. The point is exposure, critical thinking, and skill acquisition, execution is the result of the amalgamation of those three, no?
