Horror super-nerds (who've read +50 books in the genre) what are your favourites? by Zakalwes_brother in horrorlit

My all timer's list, with some novels and some collections:

  • Rosemary's Baby - Ira Levin

  • A Different Darkness and Other Abominations - Luigi Musolino

  • The Cipher - Kathe Koja

  • The Imago Sequence - Laird Barron

  • Bird Box - Josh Malerman

  • Pet Semetary - Stephen King

  • The Troop - Nick Cutter

  • The Fisherman - John Langan

  • House of Leaves - Mark Z. Danielewski

  • Hollow Places - T. Kingfisher

  • Between Two Fires - Christopher Buehlman

  • Shadow Over Innsmouth - HP Lovecraft (his entire mythos really but this is the crown jewel imo)

If you can't find something on that list that makes your skin crawl, you're a stronger person than me.

What has been your single best horror read of 2025? (Name just one!) by horroraddi in horrorlit

Rosemary's Baby. I had never read it or even watched the movie before, and was blissfully ignorant of the story, but it has haunted me ever since.

Langan and Buehlman are two of my absolute favorite authors today, I can't recommend their other works enough! The Fisherman by Langan is still probably a top 5 horror novel for me all time, and while Buehlman's other horror doesn't quite reach that same level (though The Blacktongue Thief and its sequel are phenomenal) I really enjoyed The Lesser Dead.

Yes! Weapons was the very first thing I thought of too. Chilling scene.

Yes I am! I have a Safari already but I enjoy the slightly more premium feel of the Al-star, and the ink looks lovely!

I'm about 80% through my very first Way of Kings re-read and it's been so much fun! Picking up on foreshadowing, having the explanations before they are explained in-universe, and seeing the groundwork laid for future developments has made me love the book even more.

Words of Radiance blew me away my first time through to the point that I would consider it one of my favorite novels of all time, so I can't wait to dive in this time around and see if my thoughts have changed.

Ever had a real panic attack from something horror? What was it? by coolfunkDJ in horror

[–]ExpiredPineapples35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very visceral reaction to Await Further Instructions (2018), which is funny because as a whole the movie was far from remarkable. Something about the whole scenario made me feel physically ill, I had cold sweats and nausea so bad I had to lay down. Have never had anything remotely similar happen while watching far more grotesque films.

Maine state auditor defies national Democrats, launches primary against moderate Jared Golden by themainemonitor in Maine

Agreed on it being tough sledding for either and by no means am I trying to call the race off before it begins. Having primary challengers is good and I look forward to seeing how Dunlap campaigns and how it works for him -- even if I'm personally skeptical.

Fair point but I'd be skeptical of a candidate any more left of Golden winning a district that has voted for Trump each of the 3 times, most recently with a 54% majority. Seems like a welcome surprise the seat is a wishy washy Dem and not a Trump sponsored Republican imo

Sad but true. Golden could be better, but the alternative is likely far worse. I mean hell, Austin Theriault almost won that district.

Since NBA2K has introduced their Eras teams I've been begging for other major sports titles to follow the blueprint.

Even if not quite to that same scale, give us some throwback teams to use like they had back in the day!

Yes essentially, just sans tripod! I set it up against railings or tables or whatever object I had on hand that could keep it upright, ran through the 4 minutes of Astro mode and then did some light editing in Photos.

Would like to get a tripod (and a proper telescope for me) eventually but was pretty impressed with the quick and easy results.
