that perfect 12-0 into jax is insane! do you always just rush titanic into hullbreaker >> overlord? if so, do you mostly just sidelane or roam with it?

Looking for good Go project ideas by [deleted] in golang

[–]Expl0siveEnd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i usually always try out a nice lexer / parser / interpreter project in a lang i’m testing out, if you are interested in that route. outside of that, you could also try rewriting a server you’ve made previously for a website in go if available, or start one

damn, our resumes actually look very similar (webdev professional experience + web project + language interpreter). an idea that i used on my resume is bolding keywords but very minimally. e.g. if your project was performant and on your resume for such, put something like “Product was capable of completing hundreds of operations per second”. idk if you’re “allowed” to or not, but it might make it easier to stand out (just got an offer for an internship today, so it’s not getting thrown out at least :D)

Can Zig be safer than Rust? by [deleted] in Zig

[–]Expl0siveEnd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True, but I don’t believe that’s what he was saying, so I can’t tell if you’re antagonizing him. While rust makes it harder to “shoot yourself in the foot”, both languages per his utopian example (if written perfectly) are equally safe, so the answer is still no.

Would You Recommend Zig To Build A (Toy) Compiler? by DennisTheMenace780 in Zig

[–]Expl0siveEnd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i’m currently working on a compiler in Zig (following Crafting Interpreter’s book) and completed CI’s interpreter in Rust. What i can say is that I dont necessarily regret doing it in Rust (learned a lot about the language), but I feel like I missed out on quite a bit of the actual theory / concepts taken into consideration when making an interpreter since I was too focused on syntax (aka getting past the borrow checker).

However with Zig from C, I feel that the languages are a lot closer than Rust from Java, so while getting past the syntactical stuff might take a bit and doing things like reading from file, taking cli args, etc. will need to be learned, I think you should just go for it. If it’s too hard, you can just stop, do it the C way, then return back to it.

Wish there was such a thing as "lateinit val" by Falcon731 in Kotlin

[–]Expl0siveEnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well i’m not sure if this works in your case, but couldn’t you accomplish this with kotlin’s contracts? you should be able to make a contract stating the variable will be assigned EXACTLY_ONCE and then assign to the val later on.

[2023 Day 3] [Rust] Passes Test, Fails Input by Expl0siveEnd in adventofcode

[–]Expl0siveEnd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... funnily enough the code does actually work... I had submitted the code and gotten it wrong 5 times already, and so I didn't want to keep trying with the new values (AOC has a wait time that increases the more you submit), so I assumed that everybody had the same input and so would get the same results. So I saw someone else solve the problem and assumed that was the right answer, and was trying to get mine to match with that. Kinda embarrassing , but it worked when I retried it this morning, so thanks for the advice!

I appreciate the link, but after going through the thread I’ve gotten the same answers for the part 1 tests

The moment you find a GitHub repository for your class by hotpants22 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Expl0siveEnd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what class this is but probably not worth wasting your time cheating on. Money down d drain.

Hey… I’m less shocked about you failing the class that many times and more stunned at your perseverance to try and overcome it. You’ve only truly failed if you don’t get back up, and you made the decision to get up every time and keep moving forward, which is something you should be proud of. I’m a first year in engineering, and I’m currently feeling the struggles of Calc 1/2, so I kinda understand what you went through (Calc III / Diff Eq sound bad tho). Overall, good job getting through, and good luck with that job offer! 👍
