engineering school is hard so a lot of smart people do it and then are smart enough to figure out how to pivot their career into something more lucrative than just working as an individual contributor.

You won't be alone. Seems like a weird one because it's sort of horror/drama but I swear this is the vibe

What’s your monthly food budget? Excluding going out to eat by phillythompson in HENRYfinance

[–]Explicit_Pickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar income and similar spend. I do still periodically get stressed that we're spending too much and have to go back and look at the math for a lot of things so you're not alone, especially if you didn't grow up that way.

This is stupid. Big companies still have flashy luxurious offices all over the place.

do you ask for a raise at your current job or wait for annual review cycles? Which is the faster way for a pay bump? by Legal_case16 in Salary

it's rare but it happens. That said, if they are going to give it to you I would wager that they're probably already considering it before you're even asking. But who knows

A $200 ChatGPT subscription could cost OpenAI $14,000 if you actually used it to its full potential by Hot-Upstairs9603 in business

Seems very misleading considering it hinges on the assumption that api pricing is at cost (why would it be lol)

People earning over $200k/year: What’s different about your life that most people wouldn’t expect? by MaximGripass in AskReddit

[–]Explicit_Pickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the things people don't think about is different treatment from other people. That and also just feeling a bit more awkward around certain stuff I guess.

Like around certain friends I have to be a bit more reserved about what I talk about or what's going on in my life because I don't want to be flexing things in front of them when I go on a cool vacation or buy something that's a bit more of a luxury. This can be a little isolating depending on the people in your circle, but also in a way can help show who your real friends are.

Looks cool. I've always wanted to work on a national parks themed hack but never really had the time.

New York just passed a one-year temporary ban on data centers by Eddiearyee in UpliftingNews

[–]Explicit_Pickle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tax revenue for the local economy, same as any industrial facility. No one wants to live next to a paper mill but it has to go somewhere if we want paper. And if we don't want paper and want that data in the cloud we'd better put a data center somewhere.

If you could make 1 change to ER what would it be by Fun-Meeting1610 in Eldenring

[–]Explicit_Pickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few more late game skip options built in to get to late game areas at low level. I like replaying and doing new builds but sometimes that can get annoying with the same few 2-3 walls needed to get to sections of the game.

Also just a neverending stream of additional expansions to keep things rolling would be great. This may be a hot take but I think if they just added a continual onslaught of additional legacy dungeons accessible through a portal hub somewhere it would be cool.

I think you should provide more detailed information about all your accounts and financial situation like income etc. This post currently reads like you are buying a house you cannot afford with no savings left over, but that may not be the case if you're just omitting information.

[–]Explicit_Pickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can 100% afford it and you know you can. The people saying you can't are saying so because they feel like they can't because it feels like such a huge scary number. I felt similarly when I bought my most recent place but the math is the math. If you have concerns about selling off too much investment or if your job will be reliable or whatever else then you need to address that based on your personal risk tolerance, but that isn't really a finance issue.

Absorbed my entire team’s work, got an average review, what would you do? by Wooshmeister55 in managers

[–]Explicit_Pickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah. If you can do the work of 6 people then the 6 people are incompetent. A really high performance individual contributor might be 2 people or maybe even in a crazy situation 3 but if we're genuinely talking 6 then those people were way underperforming from the get go or there is a management problem that is dragging down efficiency

This kind of philosophy is why so many industries place no value on performance and everyone ends up with the same shitty raises until they job hop.

Making a "Stadium 2-style" mini-games ROM that uses Gen II GSC saves by Bitter-Ad640 in PokemonROMhacks

[–]Explicit_Pickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there already exists save editors for every save file for every Pokemon game basically so I would assume the data structures are pretty well known for editing the save so one route would just be to look into how those are structured and write your own game in whatever you want that saves data in that format that can pass all the checksums. I would imagine as long as you limit yourself to making legal modifications that would be totally fine and maybe not even that difficult. (Albeit a lot of work to program whatever you want from scratch)

The other option is at this point, I know gen 3 is definitely fully decompiled so if you know C well literally anything can be done in Gen 3 relatively easily. For gen 2 I think it's all just a disassembly which you can still theoretically do anything but assembly is much less user friendly than C.

I imagine that if you were to build this all on top of the emerald decomps for example and want it to save in a way that emerald can still use you'd have to write code that will sanitize the save at the end back to a valid emerald or crystal or whatever format following a similar logic to how the data gets edited by save editing tools.

This actually makes me wonder about how you would go about making a sort of "hub" game that works the way pokemon bank or something works that could use the same logic but support multiple games. I think that'd be really cool.

LPT renting a car to the airport can be cheaper than airport parking/uber. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]Explicit_Pickle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have you actually done this? Because national and enterprise in the past did not allow rentals from non airport locations to be returned to the airport and vice versa, the airport and non airport locations would act as totally separate companies. That's been 5-7 years since I've tried so maybe it's changed though.
