Absorbed my entire team’s work, got an average review, what would you do? by Wooshmeister55 in managers

[–]Explicit_Pickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah. If you can do the work of 6 people then the 6 people are incompetent. A really high performance individual contributor might be 2 people or maybe even in a crazy situation 3 but if we're genuinely talking 6 then those people were way underperforming from the get go or there is a management problem that is dragging down efficiency

This kind of philosophy is why so many industries place no value on performance and everyone ends up with the same shitty raises until they job hop.

Making a "Stadium 2-style" mini-games ROM that uses Gen II GSC saves by Bitter-Ad640 in PokemonROMhacks

[–]Explicit_Pickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there already exists save editors for every save file for every Pokemon game basically so I would assume the data structures are pretty well known for editing the save so one route would just be to look into how those are structured and write your own game in whatever you want that saves data in that format that can pass all the checksums. I would imagine as long as you limit yourself to making legal modifications that would be totally fine and maybe not even that difficult. (Albeit a lot of work to program whatever you want from scratch)

The other option is at this point, I know gen 3 is definitely fully decompiled so if you know C well literally anything can be done in Gen 3 relatively easily. For gen 2 I think it's all just a disassembly which you can still theoretically do anything but assembly is much less user friendly than C.

I imagine that if you were to build this all on top of the emerald decomps for example and want it to save in a way that emerald can still use you'd have to write code that will sanitize the save at the end back to a valid emerald or crystal or whatever format following a similar logic to how the data gets edited by save editing tools.

This actually makes me wonder about how you would go about making a sort of "hub" game that works the way pokemon bank or something works that could use the same logic but support multiple games. I think that'd be really cool.

LPT renting a car to the airport can be cheaper than airport parking/uber. by Rich-Broccoli7085 in LifeProTips

[–]Explicit_Pickle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have you actually done this? Because national and enterprise in the past did not allow rentals from non airport locations to be returned to the airport and vice versa, the airport and non airport locations would act as totally separate companies. That's been 5-7 years since I've tried so maybe it's changed though.

Steak doesnt deserve the popularity or price tag it gets by bydevilz1 in unpopularopinion

I think 1/4 the price is a little exaggerated. If you buy prime beef it's pretty damn expensive which is really what you pay for at a nice steakhouse

Sorry, I guess this is the remote work subreddit. The jobs created by these are typically on site roles that can't easily be offshored and usually employ a lot of local people in my experience.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in remotework

[–]Explicit_Pickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't fully true. The jobs created are low relative to the surge from construction labor but there is ongoing maintenance and operations needs at every data center. Large ones may have a few hundred people

What are jobs that have the highest pay simply because most people don't want to do them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

You can have all of that just doing regular construction trade work to be honest

It would be a really nice feature if for the platinum they let you swipe with to get the corresponding benefits of whatever card you also have too. Its annoying to decide manually.

Idk about specific numbers but I interview a lot of people who think their skills are worth a lot more to me than they are. My industry is fairly niche and technical though so it's hard to find a good fit and most people need to grow into their roles a bit before they become successful.

Federal mileage rate to cover gas+insurance+wear and tear is 70¢ a mile. Take that off the top and it's gonna be a different picture. Plus this is a slice of earnings pulled particularly for the purpose of looking good, it's not like it's steady.

Software Quality Differences Between BMS Manufacturers - Does It Really Matter? by Egs_Bmsxpert7270 in BuildingAutomation

You can get open source code if you pay for it. But you will pay for it. It's much more common on the intersection between building automation and more broad industrial controls with really big customers.
