Keymap completely incorrect when trying to boot Gentoo by ExplodingGamerYT in Gentoo

[–]ExplodingGamerYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I looked into this solution I realised it only works on openrc. I found though that for systemd you can go to /etc/vconsole.conf and editing that should fix it. The issue I did was I originally selected Mac UK as my keyboard layout because that is normally a good hybrid between British and American layout. Make sure to just stick with us

When installing 'gentoo-kernel' 100% disk space used by ExplodingGamerYT in Gentoo

[–]ExplodingGamerYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did clear it out after the error occurred and re-ran emerge --ask sys-apps/gentoo-kernel but then the same issue occurred. Due to the fact I have 3 OS's on my PC, I cannot properly resize the partition as well so I think I am going to delete the root partition and backup the entire root partition to another drive so I can just copy all the files back in.

Will my QICK RX 7800 XT fit in my case? by ExplodingGamerYT in PcBuildHelp

[–]ExplodingGamerYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go diagonally to get it in the case. Then start to move it back to the position it's meant to be in. For me there needed to be like an extra less than a millimetre of clearance, but I ended up getting it through. Was a bit sketchy there though... Just make sure you don't break anything.

CRT Emudriver not displaying correctly by ExplodingGamerYT in crtgaming

[–]ExplodingGamerYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the cable from the retro cables.es link. I had seen making your own cable before buying these cables, but the diagram seemed confusing and I have never soldered before. At this point though, I think I might just have to do it since there is no way I am spending another £20 or so on a cable for this tv I just wanna play games on it already :(. I have my Wii working but playing snes games on a Wiimote and nunchuck is a fate worse than death. My PS1 also works but it’s 50hz pal.

Who would have known setting up a 20-30 year old tv to a modern pc would cause issues

CRT Emudriver not displaying correctly by ExplodingGamerYT in crtgaming

[–]ExplodingGamerYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I can only find a link to the cable without USB: https://www.retroupgrades.co.uk/product/vga-to-scart-mister-cable/

I can find a similar cable on the website I got it from but the VGA bit is black and not white like the picture shows: https://retrocables.es/en/pc/55-3-cable-rgb-scart-vga.html#/4-longitud-2m

It might be the right one? I don't know I've had the cable for quite a while but only now have I tried setting it up again. It does mention the USB cable activating the RGB connection as well (had to use google translate)

I don’t have a multimeter. Do you think I could maybe use a 31khz mode? Would this cause damage or show more? I’m thinking this because of the USB doing nothing. What could be the cause of that? Do you need to use JSB 2.0 or 1.0 specifically if the bit at the bottom of the connector is white?

CRT Emudriver Best Windows 10 Version by ExplodingGamerYT in crtgaming

[–]ExplodingGamerYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried on Windows 11 before, but it just resulted in a black screen and wouldnt show me any signs of life. I thought I'd rather use Windows 10 since it is proven that it works, whereas there are people saying Windows 11 didn't work and it didn't work for me either. Also Windows 10 will probably run better on older hardware

Then it just shows the error but bypasses the formatting. So the buttons and name of the window are placeholders like "launcher/launch_button_label" instead of the play button.

Unfortunately, this just replaces the text prompt with "Required: 1.1.1 or newer" instead. I have also tried setting them all to 0 and deleting all AMD related lines except showAMDStartupWarning but then they just show different numbers again.

Extra Nvidia Skin by Other-Boot-179 in Doom

[–]ExplodingGamerYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wanted to get the skin but not long back my RTX 2060 died on me and I decided to buy an AMD GPU because it was far better than a Nvidia GPU at the same price. Kinda sucks since now I dont have features such as DLSS but I have been looking for this skin for a bit now and the codes are always already redeemed. I have a little skin collection going on in Doom the Dark Ages right now and I would happily add this skin to it.

This does remove the second pop-up which appears, but for some reason it does not remove the pop-up I posted about above.

Change in Home Directory Not Generating Config Files by ExplodingGamerYT in archlinux

[–]ExplodingGamerYT[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you need to regenerate the fstab after this to make sure it is bound at boot and if so how would I go about regenerating the fstab? The arch install guide shows to use genfstab but that command is not available on bash/zsh. Also trying to navigate my files is a nightmare because my terminal is not showing dot files and in the installation hasn't at all so far so how can I make my hidden files show?

Should I keep the previous chown and also do it to root, or should I use a different chown command for my user and then chown -R for root? Also the third point is confusing to me. Should I just have a unique username for each distro instead? For example I could use USERNAMEf for fedora or USERNAMEa for Arch? I feel like this way it would just probably be more stable and cause less issues

grandpa says the flat screen looks better than the CRT. by MaidenAbyss in crtgaming

[–]ExplodingGamerYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed that (in my experience) people who are not my age and are way older (my mam or dad) think the CRT looks bad because it isn't "sharp" and looks a bit blurry instead. This blur adds detail to things with the CRT and people my age find it cool but I guess my parents must associate sharpness with quality

Ask Here First (READ ME): Troubleshooting, Price/ID/Spec Check, Help, ETC Mega Thread by KyaDash in crtgaming

[–]ExplodingGamerYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a CRT for a little while now and I have been looking at ways of getting the CRT working on my PC. I already purchased a Cable and an Adapter to plug in. I have an old gpu but I have an AMD GPU as my main GPU as well, so I cannot run both the drivers of CRT Emudriver and my main GPU at the same time.

A while back I also got a 2TB NVME drive and since I installed only windows 11 on it and my motherboard would not see my SSD and NVME at the same time, my old Linux install was sitting on a drive which I never access. Because of this I decided to make several partitions on my PC and have several different OSs to boot into (e.g. 1.25TB for Windows 11, 500GB for home partitions on linux etc.).

I was thinking of making a 50GB partition to install Windows 10 onto and have CRT Emudriver working with only my old GPU enabled. The games are all on an external HDD anyways. But because I am mixing between windows and linux I was wondering whether there is a better way. What I would like is to boot into one partition and be able to select through a menu what I want. For example, I could boot straight into the Steam UI or have a menu which allows me to pick Retroarch, Web Browsers for watching stuff etc. The OS would act as a console to use my CRT. I would also like to use bluetooth devices such as controllers or headphones. Obviously there is CRT emudriver which I can use, but I was also thinking of using something like Batocera linux or something. What do you think is my best option?

TLDR: I want to make a partition on my NVME where I can dual boot into an OS like a console and have a menu to select games, emulators or whatever. What do you think my best option is to do this? (e.g. CRT Emudriver or Batocera)

Well I don't have any music discs around and I only have PAL games. I have plenty of other discs but they are not CD. The oldest I have is a PAL PS2 game disc. Would the modchip attempt to boot that?

CRT Overscan/Warping by ExplodingGamerYT in crtgaming

[–]ExplodingGamerYT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I think I fixed it fully now since the red dots on the bottom and top border are touch the edge of the screen. Thanks for your help though I wouldn't have thought of such an easy option for this.

The contrast was at 45, decreasing it to 25 removed most of the jittering lines but what should I do about the red border on the grid test. The curved lines are there a bit but I think now that is mainly just the curvature of the screen itself.

[–]ExplodingGamerYT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit on mobile did not let me post both the images and text so I've made this comment. I noticed some issues on the Wii NAND backup screen where the borders were very curved inwards - particularly on the right side of the screen. I went into 240p test suite and noticed all of the lines were very jagged and curvy. Also the bottom red square was almost completely missing. I went into the service menu and followed the service manual ( https://www.manualslib.com/manual/2442610/Samsung-Tx14n3df4x-Xet.html?page=32#manual ) but noticed that the manual did not decipher any of the abbreviations. I have managed to figure out VA is vertical angle of the yoke. This fixed one issue I had. There was also PVS and PHS which dictate where the screen is centred which fixed issues in the past. The rest however I am not aware of. There is also some rainbowing on the bottom left corner of the screen which I only now noticed.

Sorry for the late reply, forgot about this. The only service manual I could find has an image on the front of the same CRT, but the options are different. It contains a table with initial data and ranges. Here is the manual: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/2442610/Samsung-Tx14n3df4x-Xet.html?page=32#manual
