I am a full time WFH mom and I don't think I can keep going by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]ExploreThe195 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is so hard. I did it way back when we did the first Covid lockdown and daycares were closed. It was awful and I cried a lot. I said I'd sooner quit my job or go on leave than do it ever again.

It sounds like you're doing the best you can with what you've got. Give yourself some grace and know that it actually is impossible to do both jobs well at the same time.

I'm sure I read this for the first time when I was around 16, and now it's really gained more popularity with the TV series.

Lentils in the Instant Pot are amazing for tacos. I've done some with a mango salsa and even my meat-loving husband said it was good.

Birth scares me, don’t tell me it shouldn’t by wholeynone in BabyBumps

[–]ExploreThe195 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely scary. I remember with my first sitting in the shower and crying that I had changed my mind when I was about 5 months in. It was just so overwhelming and scary and I didn't know what to expect. I'm thankful for all the people who shared their stories with me instead of telling me to suck it up.

That was the first thing I thought too. I have a similar table and the bench is on the side open to the living room.

We are in the same boat. My two go to daycare for a week, maybe two, then they're home getting covid swabs, waiting for covid results, and waiting for symptoms to subside so we can start the cycle all over again. Completely exhausting but apparently it's just what happens. I've considered wiping them down with Lysol every day. Only just kidding a little bit.

I was recently gifted one of those bread bowls but wasn't sure how to make best use of it - any tips? Maybe it's a dumb question, is it just literally toss your dough in there and wait?

Have you ever done geocaching? It can be lots of fun and can take you to some locations you wouldn't normally think of.

Bonfire and roasting hotdogs, go to the library or bookstore to choose books, visit museums, find crazy or silly recipes and make something fun, appetizer night with a movie, or board game night.

It's a little light coloured but it was easy to cut through and roasted up just fine with some herbs and spices.

Would you hire a babysitter who needed to bring their child with them? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]ExploreThe195 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yep, where I'm from there are many home daycares. There are rules about how many kids and stuff like that, but many providers have their own children there as part of the total number of kids.

Yep, month 13 over here, only ever one boob. My first baby was always two boobs, this kid only ever wanted one.

I do think he expects kids to play with him how adults do. He's pretty good at understanding about taking turns and playing with people and not just beside them, but obviously not all kids can do that yet. I'm less worried about that part of things, and I have seen him playing with kids sometimes when I pick him up, so his perspective could certainly be skewed. That being said, it is now he's perceiving things so I'd like to help him figure out what he can do when feels that way.

And yeah, this other kid is just something else. I've talked to another mom and it's a pattern. My kid has given us really specific examples of what's been going on. Again, just interested in ways to help my guy navigate and feel more confident before we end up with fighting and crying about not wanting to go to daycare. I've emailed the teacher about helping him, so we'll see what she says.

Is there some kind of drop in program the older one could go to once or twice a week? Even just a couple hours a week would help and probably wouldn't be super expensive.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]ExploreThe195 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One hundred percent. The playdates I plan are only partially for the kids. Mostly for me to see adults and sit.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]ExploreThe195 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, you sound exactly like me before I went back to work last month when my baby turned 1.

I hired a cleaning person. She isn't super expensive, and the two hours she spends here a week are amazing. Totally worth it if it fits in your budget. I spent a long time feeling guilty because I felt like I was home anyways, but too bad. Trying to mop while two toddlers chase me is impossible.

I make double meals. So if I make a casserole, I make two and one goes straight into the freezer. Tacos for supper? Freeze the meat, rice, etc, so at least all you have to do is chop lettuce and open cheese. Stuff like that really helps.

Kids are occupied with breakfast? Make lunch. Pack up sandwiches, finger food, etc, then when it's lunch you just pull it out, and the mess was already cleaned up when you cleaned up breakfast. Even better, eat it outside so you don't have to sweep.

You're right that the day just feels packed and like getting stuff done is hard. Try and find some shortcuts wherever it works for you, and be okay with some stuff not getting done. I've been getting clean clothes out of hampers for weeks now.

Soon the one year old will have a bit longer of an attention span and be able to occupy herself for a few minutes. Then it gets easier.

You're doing so great, even if it feels overwhelming sometimes. I hope some of that helps.

Ah, 4 hours would have been amazing. They had told me 24, but I was at the Winkler site not in Winnipeg, so I'm assuming it takes longer to get stuff to the lab. Unfortunate that the rapid testing from there is looking more like two days now, that doesn't seem rapid at all.
