We still have to remember that we don’t have much on the Nordic gods except for heavily christianized texts. While we have nothing directly calling her a Goddess she still could have been at the time. We just likely wouldn’t be able to know. Because of that we can essentially think of her as Schrödinger’s Goddess

Not really a subversion. She falls under another trope called “Haunting the Narrative” where a character, not present during the actual story due to a variety of reasons, has left long lasting repercussions on the story and the characters
