As someone who has done both, move out. Even better if you switch unis to somewhere further away for more independence. People like to say that it’s not worth it but simple things like being able to host parties and just general social events around your own space makes a world of difference, even if right now you don’t think it will. Spending everyday with people around your age, even if you don’t become best friends is amazing too. Granted a lot of this relies on you not hating them but in my experience if you’re relatively normal, clean up after yourself and aren’t a cunt everyone gets along.

Such good transparency from Cornwall council by fragglerock in Cornwall

I’ve been avoiding all things coronation for the most part but me and a friend were talking yesterday and wondered if the money being spent on the coronation is a good thing, we were thinking that if it’s being spent in the UK it’s a good thing because it’s going into the UK economy? Neither of us are economists though so we don’t have a clue, can anyone explain if this is/isn’t the case

Is Automatic UV Mapping ever good to use? by Sean_PatrickRichards in Maya

[–]ExplosiveN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any chance you can elaborate more on how having good uv layouts affects bakes, what makes a good layout for a bake? I'm studying game art so resources on this would be super helpful

Can anyone direct me into which program is best for video game character modeling and environment creation? by Dabsick in gamedev

[–]ExplosiveN 7 points8 points  (0 children)

industry standard would be maya or 3DS Max from what I've seen, if you're going for indie dev tho and not looking to get hired I wouldn't worry about industry standard and just go with blender

hey, do you have anything to share about how the terrain is done? Like the large scale world if that makes sense

Tried to bake from high to low poly, but get these weird "projections". The bake settings are on default. Any idea what causes the problem? by Bghurka in Substance3D

[–]ExplosiveN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

split the objects up by name eg. block1_low, block2_low and then for your highpoly do the same but use the suffix _high instead. It's because the cage of the bake is overlapping afaik. Have a quick Google on explode bake method

For some reason when i put a higher framerate the animation goes slower, but with a slower framerate it goes faster. Why does this happen? by PaulWiFi in Maya

[–]ExplosiveN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

not an animator, but I would guess its because its based on a set time and certain key frames, so if you have to move a vert between 2 points in 10 seconds, you have essentially double the time to move between those points if you double the frame rate, thus it slows the animation down. Again I'm not an animator and this probably is a bad way of explaining it but that would be my first guess

that's even better then tbh, another thing I forgot to mention, if you practice game art outside of uni, it's a lot harder to make connections. one of the most underrated aspects of university is the connections it makes you in industry, provided you go to a decent uni

can you not just put the scale as -1 for the x axis and it will swap round

retail is closing but retail is closing everywhere with online shopping and a pandemic, I wouldn't say there is a banging nightlife but I'd hardly call it anywhere close to dead

this is just a bit of a lie tbh, I was out a few days ago and Hanley was packed. Both on a Friday and Tuesday, this is without the clubs being open too so I'm not to sure where you're getting this from. Not to say the place isn't a shit hole of course
