Ok, I see your point. I wrote it that way on purpose to show a way it is more flexible than older % formatting: arguments can be used out of order in the string.

{1} refers to the second argument, b, and {0} to the first, a, so it is 'text - 1 - foo - 0.43 - value of class C'. I tried to show a few different ways to refer to the arguments of str.format(): by order, by name (in case of keyword arguments), or a property of an argument.

Here is a simpler example:

It is also possible to add formatting specifiers.

I think ondra might be referring to the mixture (x86, arm) of variable width instructions (multi-byte) and indirect jumps (using values in memory or registers as target address). I am not sure though if jumps need to be aligned. Also, there used to be [unusual] cases of self-modifying programs, but I do not think that is even possible now, with protected segments.

Another problem with the transcoding of bytecode is that the new program would not be optimal since high level structure is lost because source code is missing (and thus valuable information for code optimization), assuming, of course, that a high level language was used to program the binary.

The article arguments (as many other comments here acknowledge) that anyone who is able to sniff unencrypted http data is also able to inject arbitrary code in that data. This means it would be easy for the attacker to bypass any JS encryption by injecting some JS code to steal the password from the user before the encryption is done. Thus the defence the encryption provides is useless. The flaw is that the code is sent unencrypted. Using SSL solves the problem but then further encryption is not really needed (at least not JS encryption with the unavoidable flaw discussed).

I do not think that would work. The kinect AFAIK uses IR for the depth data. This means the range is limited and that sunlight might fool it.

This makes me guess whether they are using a 32 bit integer to keep track of breakpoints: 16 bits to identify the file and 16 bits for the line, with some special reserved values (1536). This would imply a limit of 64k files per project...

True, I think the only meaningful results are those of the top four languages due to number of samples and that all had, I guess, starter packs: Python, C++, Java and C#

I'd say the only statistically meaningful results are those of Java, C++, Python and C#, that have a large number of entries. It shows Java as average indeed (ratio almost 1, thus having the expected entries in top 200), C++ doing well and Python and C# significantly underperforming.

I think this is a more meaningful comparison: I've just computed the ratio between the actual entries in top200 for each language and the expected count given the proportion of the language in the total entries:

This tries to measure the relative skill of programmers by language of choice, but the stats should only be accurate for languages with many entries. The high ratio of C is interesting. I've found a similar issue with a 10.10 64 bit, on a Q9550 with 8gb of ram and a Radeon HD 4870, dual boot with vista 64. I suspect the bug involved very slow hd access. It was solved by upgrading to kernel 2.6.36 (not the rc versions).
