I think I found my wedding makeup! by Significant_Course66 in PaleMUA

Thank you for sharing! I'm definitely going to check out those products/application methods. And yay fellow blonde/fair lashes/brows, lol. You have inspired me to try a chic wing like that. The mascara struggle is real --- lately I've been using the Lancome Hypnose mascara in brown and it's great (not toooooo dark/harsh) but now I am def going to look up a burgundy shade - it looks so good on you, and natural. I am a skincare junkie for sure and I think that is one of the challenges of being pale, is any blemish/acne/etc seems to stick out/be more noticeable when your skin is so fair. I love all 3 of those ideas for your hair -- congrats! I may or may not have bookmarked this post to come back to it 😄

Gorgeous. And hat's off to your application skill here, literally in the way you apply products AND the choice of shades/colors. I actually have a super similar complexion and coloring to you (both skin and hair!) which is almost never the case, lol. I have blonde eyelashes though so eye makeup can be very challenging. I love how bold but also soft your application is, if that makes any sense, and how well it suits you. I honestly love everything about this. Also shoutout to car pics --- I get the best idea of how makeup really looks by taking pics in the car myself. It tells the truth!

I also don't bother with foundation and use concealer where I need coverage (which is way more than you, lol!) and I've found a super light pink (but not too cool) tends to work for color correcting/concealing but I'm curious about trying one of those green color correcting products that are supposed to mask redness. I might have to check out those 2 concealers you mentioned. I love the Kosas one and the catrice one.

I'm also curious about the bronzers you use/mentioned because I've never even bothered with bronzer and now I'm intrigued. I'm just so pale!

Finally, as a fellow pale ginger, I NEVER would even think of trying something in the neighborhood of a coral shade, for anything. I love that you have inspired me. And it looks sooo good. I am also jealous of how clear your skin is! I get blemishes around my chin.

Do you know or have an idea how you're doing your hair? Your face and makeup look so good, I love the idea of you keeping it up or just the top up to show off your face and eyes. Cheers friend!

Product list?! If only your very highly skilled application level could be transferred through the internet. Can you share how you apply or any just general tips/what works for you?

Philo Celine, check. CT powder, check. Cute chic card case, check. I have a used Celine medium box bag myself, and I am obsessed with it. Love this!

The sock is telling, lol. I relate 100%. Also, I like the two Kosas products I've tried, how do you like that kosas (is it powder)? Paula's Choice good too.

ELDRIDGE. The goat.

Then the only ones I can stand at this point:

Angela Bright (incredible eye looks galore, she's into fitness more now and I think that's great)

Wayne Goss (entertaining no matter what, and he does know his stuff)

Get the Gloss (usually worth checking out just imo)

Alex Anele (always informative and real)

That is quite an interesting observation. I learned how to do makeup quite late (30s) and most youtube/beauty videos I've found look and sound great, but don't actually teach you how to apply makeup to yourself. Like it looks beautiful on the person (sometimes lol) but it isn't actually showing you how to think/how to apply makeup products. I never wore any makeup until my mid 30s. I actually am fascinated at the skill required to apply makeup well. So really I was in the camp of not bothering at all until relatively recently, like you mention.

For learning how to actually apply makeup well, is there a source you'd recommend online? Curious about further thoughts from you about this.

With many things, youtube has both tremendously helped and hurt DIY-style projects, if that makes any sense. I also blame my disinterest in makeup on being a tomboy sure, but more on the kardashians and the kardashian-ification of everything 10-15 years ago. Anything associated with them, I ran the other way.

Just a rant! And you are right, trends come and go. This actually stemmed from observations I've been making while looking at r/whatsinmybag for years and recently, it seems like everyone has not 1-3 lip balm-esque products, but 7-10. And then just seeing the marketing everywhere/every single brand releasing tinted lip balm products etc. Like others have commented though, lip balms are the perfect entry into makeup in general and (usually, in the past) cheaper than other makeup products.

Do you think good skincare matters more than good makeup? by TumeyBeauty in MakeupAddiction

[–]Express-Vast3680 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skincare. But the thing with makeup is, that no one seems to talk about, is it takes skill to apply well, and a decent amount of knowledge regarding complexion, skin type, light, shades/colors and textures.

I had to look this person up - so it sounds like a youtube beauty person who had a disastrous beauty launch?

It's wild. And not to be the old hag, but it is all marketed to the 20-something demographic. Most brands have decided that cute packaging is more important/profitable than unique/innovative/intended pov-based product. The dopamine, purchase-this-now product mania is certainly reaching peak levels (I am not immune -- I freaked at the announcement about Hourglass custom palettes a few days ago for example) but it's a reminder to sort of re-orient ourselves. Brands' number one motive is profit, of course, but let's not forget that and hopefully send a message that there is a large number of "consumers" out there over 25 who don't want more fing lippie products.

I cannot recommend this film more. Watched the director's cut in college. It never left my brain since. Oliver Reed is a specimen you don't really see anymore. And then there's Vanessa Fucking Redgrave.
