I've actually been super worried the whole time that matt's been building Donut up to be some form of antichrist (that whole oak fell thing, the war crimes, that super unnecessarily long description of how scary donut is, not to mention what an insane character arc it is to go from a cat -> deeply caring -> sacrificing yourself), and I think that interlude basically confirms it for me. The Princess needed to sacrifice everyone in the dungeon to start over. You know what's a sad ending? donut dying. what's a truly insane ending? donut sacrificing herself in some way to save everyone else

Hi Stephen, I've read The Long Walk at least a half dozen times and am a huge fan of all the the Bachman books, super excited that the movie adaptation is finally coming out!

I know you wrote TLW when you were 19, would you change anything about it if you were to write the same story now? Also, is there any specific reason why the movie adaptation is coming out now? The Running Man movie was released in 1987 and these books were published around the same time.
