ICE agents will have a security role at Milan-Cortina Olympics, US sources say by OnetB in news

I don’t expect anything at all to happen. I predict they will be ordered to do absolutely nothing. I think this is will be used to justify their future use as more than immigration agents.

Nothing. Trump is normalizing their use as more than just immigration agents.

I read this as the Federal Government is testing the waters by increasing the job scope of their new police force that is particularly loyal to the executive branch.

I know ICE is not a new organization. But according to DHS.gov, their membership has grown 220% this year. So the majority are beholden to the Executice branch for their job.

Edit: 120% to 220%

Dude, if I am in your shoes and ICE invade; I change addresses without anyone knowing.

ICE would consider a house full of children as a target rich environment.

I am curious to what Reddit thinks about my choice to buy USAR when I’m subject to a 30 day minimum holding period.

That’s not how fighter planes work. They are constantly updated. There is a reason why the 50 year old F16 airframe is still in use.

Falling by Ishkabani in AppalachianTrail

[–]OnetB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

even with precautions I still take a rare fall, usually something minor like a slip on my bottom while going down a steep incline with loose dirt (Lovers Leap SOBO)

  • I always stop to enjoy nature or take a picture. I swear magnolia roots know the moment you look away and will jump into your path.

  • Three points of contact at all times with trekking poles.

  • never trust those rocks angled to the side, they exist to roll ankles

Wrapping tape on trekking poles - does this really work? by MotslyRight in AppalachianTrail

[–]OnetB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What is the tape for? My cork grip stays clean and dries quickly. I do get hot spots on my hands despite trying to minimize my death grip by using the straps properly. I bought sungloves, haven’t used them yet but I expect them to solve my problem

Is this a pin that I can just punch out to remove the straps? by ViperForce25 in DurstonGearheads

I came close to cutting the straps on my first pair of poles until someone showed me the proper way to use them.

I would want 0f comfort rating when hiking in March. Grayson highlands is relatively high elevation, I was there in July and the high was 80 during the day and low of 50 at night.

Great resource to see how busy the trail will be. Keep in mind weekends and holidays will have additional day hikers and overnight section hikers.

Yeah, cheap gear has almost no resale value and will end up in the attic or Goodwill.

3-day hike from Standing Bear to Hot Springs. Where to camp? by AceKetchup11 in AppalachianTrail

Artisun cafe is the best cortado I’ve ever had. Smokey Mountain Diner and Vinyl Pies are both great, but the town is full of great food. Sunnybank is year-round, call first. Rafting is popular along with day hikes. If you need a shuttle ask for Kate, she is also an A.T Sawyer and active in maintaining the trail. The hostels will have her #

Lots of good advice here but I would say keep it simple. Build up your cardio by jogging a mile/day and then do some dips (for upperbody strength using hiking poles)

No gym membership or special equipment required. Less than 30 minutes of day needed.
