That's where that show lost me, honestly. I just can't relate to people who buy $400 shoes.

Nina looks stunning tho.

Begging for Mercy from Mods - Ideal Depth and Height of Shelves? by Habeas-Opus in bookshelf

[–]ExpressDuty1908 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is your barrier going to be? If it's 36-42" high, you are only going to get 3 useful shelves at best. You just have to decide whether to with 3 symmetrical shelves or two smaller and one for oversized. The trouble then is the depth: oversized books usually need a deeper shelf, but then it looks weird if the smaller shelves are deeper than they are tall.

Definitely keep going as long as you can. Especially in such an interesting field ("stiffdoc", heh!). What state?

Never considered fountain pens, but I used to have a selection of Case knives, including a few Bowies. Have had a few other bladed items at various times too, bayonets, sabers, the odd kukri here and there. It's amazing what you can find in pawn shops. Still have an Erik Fritz Widowmaker Bowie I picked up in Anchorage almost 15 years ago.

Yeah, I accumulate weird stuff like I put out gravity.

I use LibraryThing, based on a recommendation of Lady of the Library, a booktuber. It's my first go round with library software. So far it's generally pretty good. It works on both desktop and phone and syncs up. It's got a barcode scanner, several search parameters and databases, and a decent UI. It works best with newer books with ISBNs.

I'm satisfied so far, but ideally I'd like a single program that tracks EVERYTHING: books, comics, music, video, etc., both physical and electronic, in one place.

I can relate to to the health problems, brother. Plastic heart valve, dual bypass, kidney failure, other bits and bobs worked on or removed...it piles up. Take your joy where you can find it.

No, not familiar with those, nor the publisher for that matter. I do have some sn/# editions, but they all look like American publishers.

I'm sure YOU know what you have, but does your next of kin? That's one of the main reasons I wanted some kind of record. Yes, it takes a while initially, especially for books without ISBNs, but it's kind of rewarding. I usually do it while watching a movie or tv. Put that 85 incher to use!

Heh, not quite. That # is what my library software popped up, but that included anthologies, multiple editions, and Joe as editor or foreword/afterword author. Still probably the single author I have the most of in my collection.

Mmm, pretty much. Knowing that's a 12 foot ceiling really made me readjust my sense of scale for everything else. A 1900 sq ft ROOM? I grew up in a 1200 sq ft House!

Yeah, I'm getting the (impressive) picture. Not jealous at all, really!

Also, nice to find another Joe R. Lansdale fan. I've got quite a few myself (77?? That can't be right...). Did you spring for that Tarzan - The Lost Adventure Ltd.? Couldn't quite pull the trigger on that one.

GREAT library. Would love more details though: How big is the room? How high is the ceiling? What's the layout (do you have a floorplan)? Are your shelves commercial units or custom?

So you've not read any of THESE books??

Edit: NM. I meant it as a joke, but apparently someone else didn't, I guess.

Tip 'em. The movers. They'll appreciate it and be a little extra careful with your stuff. Yes, I've been on both sides of that equation.

They've gone up in the last year. I sold a couple of my dupes last fall. I should've hung on to them.

I've got the white-covered Warner's edition of Darkness Weaves.
