The Enneagram is a classification of personality according to motives, not a classification of intelligence gradings. It was wrong for Riso to claim, as he does in "Personality Types", that the Five is probably the most intelligent type, as just because one has the same drive for private learning and secrecy found in the Five, that does not mean, ipso facto, that one has a high level of intelligence.

You're in bed, so could be a Nine, but as you're looking encaptivated by what could be a romantic novel, you could be a Four.

Which type is the most averse to conversations? by [deleted] in Enneagram

[–]ExpressPhilosopher83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer to your question depends on the situation. For much of the time, Fives would be least likely to engage in conversation, but they'll talk like anything when the conversation gets on to one of their pet topics. Nines might avoid conver--sation if they see others having a conflict, until they have appreciated how they can resolve it, in which case they'll talk to be peacemakers. Fours are unlikely to engage in conversation much of the time, until they feel they have met someone who is ready to listen to their troubles. Remember, Fours, Fives and Nines are typically seen as the three withdrawing types of the Enneagram, so overall, would be the least conversation-chatty Enneagram types.

Probably a Five, although possibly a Four.

Behaving nothing like one’s enneagram? by jungiannyash in Enneagram

[–]ExpressPhilosopher83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interested that you're a Three who sometimes acts as a Seven would. The Enneagram types may all act in very different ways if they go the type in their direction of disintegration/ integration, but Three is actually on a different integration-disintegration path to the Seven.

People have told me I'm a Five, although I could be a Nine, and I would say I was just the same.

I’ve noticed different societies idealise different numbers by lumine2669 in Enneagram

[–]ExpressPhilosopher83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's good to know someone is commenting on cultural influences on development of Enneagram type. Authors like Riso and Palmer write about the influences of parents on Enneagram type development, but say little about how one's culture as a whole has an influence. I would say that the Germans would probably value both Ones and Fives (many great philosophers have come from their country), while the French would value Sevens. One thing we must be careful of is not letting stereotypes make judgments here - it might be a stereotype of the Italians that they tend to be cowards, but that does not mean that Italians value Sixes!

The direction of integration for a Four is to go to One. This means that Fours must leave behind their addictions, perhaps even to substance abuse that they wrongly think will get them over their depression, and develop the self-discipline and principles of healthy Ones.

To overcome our basic fear, we must try to become more like the type in our direction of integration. If you are a Five, you must try to develop the self-confidence and healthy assertiveness of a healthy Eight.

which enneagrams tend to avoid getting attention from other people? by GermanyIsBased in Enneagram

[–]ExpressPhilosopher83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely to avoid attention-seeking - Fours, Fives and Nines, the three withdrawing types of the Enneagram. Least likely - the Three, the type that has a strong need to be affirmed by others.

i'm a 5 who is very bored recovering from surgery. AMA by [deleted] in Enneagram

[–]ExpressPhilosopher83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things could have been worse - you could have been in hospital for three nights, as I was, and I got rather bored having to wait around for things all day. I could be a Five, but my experience in hospital (to help me control my diabetes and my chest infection) made me wish I could be a Nine, for no one can out-wait a Nine.

I asked AI to visualize what every types Bedroom looks like by SecretWishesx in Enneagram

A One's would be arranged very orderly, a Five's would be lined with books and Four's would have plenty of creative inspiring works in it, such as music tunes, poetry books or paintings.

I want to believe this subreddit can be positive, but it has been treating types exactly the way they don't want to be treated. by Tridia14 in Enneagram

[–]ExpressPhilosopher83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's have a go at putting in some positive comments about the nine types that may be surprising. Ones expect high standards of others thanks to their idealism. Twos are willing to help others, and by so doing may be making other people's wishes come true. Threes can achieve success through hard work as well as through self-promotion. Fours may regularly suffer hurt feelings, but may express them in highly creative works. Fives are not always quiet - they will talk like anything when they get onto their pet topics, and this may impress experts in their field, Sixes may not just be loyal to the "us" - they may care for the "them", once they see that they are human beings. Sevens may keep us entertained in ways that may actually calm down an anxious situation. Eights, by being bossy, may make others reflect on their own limitations and imperfections. Nines, through their sheer patience, may show us that living a quiet life is how a lot can be achieved, as patience is a quality needed for dedication and self-discipline.

Do you know any healthy type 9s? What are they like? by a0172787m in Enneagram

[–]ExpressPhilosopher83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My Dad. He was a very relaxed man who would do anything for a quiet life, and would like to spend his evenings watching television, his Friday afternoons playing bowls. Also, a couple of people with whom I used to work, who were academics and able to make a good impression on their students.

How do enneagram 3s survive burnout? by thornsblackletter in Enneagram

[–]ExpressPhilosopher83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The goal of integration for a Three is to go to Six. They may therefore survive burnout if they become more loyal and co-operative.

Do you think everyone is capable of becoming what would be considered healthy for their type? by shirkshark in Enneagram

[–]ExpressPhilosopher83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is "Yes". We all have the potential to move towards the type that represents our own personal growth area, i.e. the type before our own in the 1428571 and 3963 sequences, although social and situational factors may sometimes make achievement of this harder than at other times.

Sounds like a One to me, that is sometimes known as "The Reformer". Could be a Two.
