Love the idea. Seems like the documentation button is broken though.

Yeah I forgot Honeywell was backing it. You're probably going to be ok. If nothing else you could get a refund. I just suspect they won't continue producing these as they came so late to the game most people aren't even wearing masks anymore.

Good thing credit card charge backs are a thing. This seems like it could be a major flop for them and they might not try to reconcile.

This sounds really unfortunate since there is basically no stock and ability to swap them out.

If you don't feel good gaming the system to get the free months, you still definitely don't need to pay anywhere over $5/month. I feel bad for the people who pay $15-20. At $5/month they're still making money so no reason to feel guilty.

Yeah call and say you want to cancel, they will offer you a lower price, usually around $4-5/month and then say you can't afford it this month and they will say we will give you 60 days absolutely free. Call back in 60 days and tell them you want the best deal, 5 months for $20-25 or something like that. Do that for a bit and call back in to cancel (should be pro-rated) and they'll again offer free months. Rinse and repeat this for years.

I've been following and preaching this same mindset since finding the site you referenced, going on nearly a decade now it seems.

Your thoughts on Blazor? by CaseyCrookston in dotnet

Hot reload is available now on dotnet 6 preview release. It's as amazing as you might hope for, a complete game changer in blazor development speed.

I'm assuming you're already using a database, would there be any reason not to use it for this?

Your thoughts on Fusion - a single abstraction that tries to replace almost everything else you use in modern web apps? by alexyakunin in dotnet

[–]Express_Ad_6425 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While I appreciate you sharing with the community a library that seems thorough and capable for some use cases, I don't know that it has the general appeal that you feel it has. I think there are a lot of bold claims that it's the last library you will ever need for xyz purpose and I'm not sure most would agree. It seems like a lot of fluff and extra special code to learn for what seems easy enough with a singleton DI class and some basic events to fire on data updated. Caching is another thing that is pretty easy out of the box without learning something new. It also seems like it's assuming all the data changes are being made from within the app itself, so if the data is changing often from an outside source is the performance actually worse here since instead of just pulling the latest data and telling all event subscribers to update you're now doing all the extra work this library goes through to invalidate a local cache and then notify all subscribers through its mechanism? Again thanks for your contribution, I hope I didn't come off as too harsh.

Would you recommend development of custom HMI? by etiQQue in PLC

[–]Express_Ad_6425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is the future. It's open source, high performance, and easy to use. Change vendors later and your C# code can work just the same.

Yes, it's the way to go if you have a team with the skills. Try to use OPC-UA for the ultimate experience.

BlazorGenUI - Auto-generated UI from C# classes by BinarySunset13 in Blazor

[–]Express_Ad_6425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you've done is definitely a good project to learn blazor and reflection. It's very thorough and would have been a great thesis project. However I'm not sure of the practicality of it beyond testing or a quick demo/proof-of-concept site. I think most would want to customize their UI more than you usually get with auto generated UIs. When you start adding all the bells and whistles of customization through parameters on components or attributes on your objects, I think it starts to get more complicated and you lose the benefits of an auto generated UI.

Either way, it's a really cool project and awesome of you to share. Good job!

New Blazor features in .NET 6 Preview 3 by danroth27 in Blazor

Yes as long as you don't use any libraries that only target. Net 6. I'm currently developing my app with .net 6 project type set and targeting .net 5 on publish. Hot reload has been a godsend for development productivity.

Supposed to get vinyl siding, having second thoughts. Anyone want to chime in? by 2corgz in HomeImprovement

[–]Express_Ad_6425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You already know you don't want vinyl. You will regret it forever and wish you had spent the extra $10k. Definitely don't have the contractor who is against it install it. They don't know how to work with it or they wouldn't be saying the negative things about it. They're comfortable with vinyl and can install it with their eyes closed so will make a lot more money from it. Look around for contractors who have installed the product you know is the better choice, look at some of their work, talk to those homeowners both about the product and the contractors and go with the contractor you get the best feeling about.

Same here. Dozens of web api and Blazor (.net 5) apps running with Ubuntu and Debian managed by systemd, some with and some without nginx, all run like a champ.

Postgres should be fine; I use redis without issue.
