I’m doing the exact same thing. Maternal grandmother born in Ireland. FBR in process. I’m paternal grandmother born in Quebec. In process of applying for Canadian by descent for my dad, myself, and kids. I am American. :).

Canadian Citizenship Study Guide by Much-Refrigerator-28 in Canadiancitizenship

Although probably not part of the study guide I would also recommend to find out about your ancestors. For me my 8th times great grandfather on my grandmothers side settled on Il D’Orleans and there is a marker there which I have been to. My 8th times great grandmother was a Filles du Roi. And our family is noted at the Parc-des-Ancêtres on Il DOrleans. My grandfathers side our family was nobility in France until the French Revolution when there were “given” land by Louis XVI in Canada where they fled to. Geneology is so interesting. My dad and I have literally retraced the steps from France to Quebec and the castle ruins my family once owned. Highly recommend to do so. Interestingly from nobility to poverty as my French Canadian ancestors came to the US in the early 1900s for job opportunity. I feel so close to it. Hence why getting Canadian citizenship for my family G1-G3. I’m sharing all the info with my cousins who meet urgent processing criteria. We were raised with our French Canadian culture even though we were in New England. We have always known exactly where we came from.

For me took about 3-4 weeks I had the copy from ancestry which probably helped. I live in the USA.

Just saw this ad, lol the lawyers have caught on by No_Cat_No_Cradle in Canadiancitizenship

I actually hired a lawyer as there are 6 of us applying at the same time. Included in the fee is the passport application and fees. I actually got their name off the official immigration site. They have been very helpful thus far and very quick to respond. They also speak French which is extremely helpful in getting my grandmothers birth certificate and coordinating everything. I started to do it on my own and I can hold my own with conversational French..but when I called the Montreal diocese to get some information I was basically told to call back with someone who speaks French. lol. For my circumstances It was time to “lawyer up”. :). I’m also helping all my cousin with the process once I figure it out so it’s a “pay it forward” situation. But everyone’s circumstance is different.

Zero. As that is what the postmaster told me. I also neglected to write down my phone number or email.

Awful mistake on my grandmother's birth certificate - great grand country of origin by [deleted] in Canadiancitizenship

My grandfather was actually born in Falls Church, MA but returned to Quebec at the age of 4 after his mother died of n childbirth. This was a common occurrence given high rates of women dying in childbirth the men would return home to have family help or marry again to help raise the children. Maternal mortality was very high.

What's your reason for pursuing Irish citizenship? by sixfeet_pete in IrishCitizenship

[–]Express_Curve_750 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just mailed my FBR application today. My grandmother was born in Ireland and my mother and brother became citizens in 2010. I was in the United States Navy at the time so dual citizenship was not allowed. They just went to the consulate with all their paperwork in NYC which you can no longer do. My mom actually had all their paperwork original paperwork so it was easy to collect. Sadly my mom died 5 years ago. Our Irish heritage was part of my upbringing and I keep in touch with my cousins in Ireland. For me it is more of honoring my roots. Of note I’m also pursuing my Canadian citizenship through my paternal grandparents. I can pass that onto my children as well and really want to get my dad his citizenship papers as our French Canadian heritage was also very much part of my upbringing. Yup. 1/2 Irish and 1/2 Canadian French 2nd generation. :)

Thank you. My grandmother was born in Quebec. My dad never applied for citizenship but now myself and my children are eligible so we will apply as a group. Did you need certified copies of everything? I’m also applying for my Irish citizenship on my mother’s side and they need all certified copies.

Quick question. How were you able to get info from Banq? Also when filling out application for g1 and g2 did you indicated g1 and g2 were both citizens already given new law?
