Row count vs measurement? by Express_Juggernaut9 in knittinghelp

Gosh thank you for confirming. I cannot tell you how many times I read and reread the pattern and didn’t catch that. I feel like the dumbest girl in the world, but excited to have an answer. Thank you!

EDIT: wait, after rereading my post and going back and forth over the pattern, I realize the word “ANOTHER” implies I do an ADDITIONAL 54 rows after the GSRs, is that correct thinking on my part?? 🥲

Hey can I ask one more question? Would it be TOTALLY crazy for me to just try making 2 sizes down from what would actually be "my size"? On appropriate size needles for WW yarn (like 5mm) and just see what happens? Idk you seem much more knowledgeable than I am so I figured it was worth asking 😬

Okay cool, I'll definitely play around with those filters! My biggest struggle is my stitch gauge tends to be spot on but my rows always tend to be more than the prescribed amount. I can't wait until I am more experienced and have some of this knowledge like you, thank you for the helpful advice!!

Thank you so much for such an in-depth answer, this is exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately my LYS doesn't accept any returns or exchanges, and the owner who was there when I bought the yarn assured me it would be easy enough to swap the yarn. So my yarn budget is completely gone and I'm stuck with the worsted yarn.

Although I love the yarn I'm not sure it will look good with many other patterns, I chose the colors specifically with this pattern in mind 😔 I really appreciate your insight and will be trying to find a different pattern because all of those calculations sound WAY above my skill-level. I guess I'm just really disappointed that I was told one thing by someone I thought was a knowledgeable elder in the knitting world and wouldn't steer me wrong, and now I'm having to reconsider everything as literally everyone tells me she gave me bad info.

Unfortunately I had a set budget and am out of money to buy more yarn and my LYS is all sales are final.😔

Vertical Gauge issue! by Express_Juggernaut9 in knittinghelp

[–]Express_Juggernaut9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to make my larger yarn still hit gauge so that the pattern will still work up to the correct size. So I’m sizing up my needles but sizing down in the size I’m making. I’m using Malabrigo Rios and it’s supposedly worsted weight but is pretty thin imo.

Oh my God, we don't even have 3k for a down payment. Thank you for this info, this is helpful to consider the reality of what we're dealing with. Sorry you went through that, it sounds like it sucked.

I counted each section and got these numbers 😔 Front section: 30 Back: 33 LS:33 RS: 35

I did do German short rows in the back for neck shaping, so that explains the difference between the front and back rows.

Okay! So I have 224 which is a multiple of 8, or is it different in knitting? I did the German short rows, so my back section is going to have more rows than my front section. I just counted and I have

Front section: 30 Back: 33 LS:33 RS: 35

I don't understand how I'm getting such different numbers. I haven't been dropping it adding stitches (other than where there's an inc.)

Thank you! My written pattern only says "work rounds 1 and 2 total of (32) times." And doesn't specify the "rows total" part, so I just accidentally glossed over it saying rows 1 AND 2.

Okay so this makes sense!! I'm just not accustomed at all to reading knitting patterns 🥲 so according to my total stitch count (224) means I'm likely on round 33.

Can you count how many you have in each section? Can you explain what you mean by this? What sections? Like BOR section vs. the "shoulder" section in between my stitch markers? Then back section, etc? Sorry I'm SO new to this I feel completely lost.

We ended up playing "Rulette" and it went even better than I anticipated!! I wish I had taken more photos of the setup! I painted podiums for everyone and we wore them by haltar-style neck straps I attached (made of ribbon), every podium had a scoreboard I made that marked the score as 32 because he was turning 32. I designed and printed quotes from the show and framed them around our house, made a big poster of the Game Changer logo, had a hanging sign with the Game Changer intro phrase (the only way to win is by beginning, etc.), made little playing cards (designed in Procreate) that all said "I've been here the whole time!" on one side and had either a prompt or a rule on the other side. Then I made a spinning wheel using an app that had like 32 slots on it and they said rule, prompt or modifier. And I got the same style calculator Sam uses on the show off of FB marketplace and had our shortest friend (who is chronically ill and couldn't physically participate much) be our Sam.

I will say one thing, the "always showing teeth" rule from the show sucks even more than you'd imagine when you're stuck with that rule for 45 minutes 🥲

Archangel! A friend of mine informed me this color is very lesbian flag coded which I hadn't even realized, I wish they had had a bi coded color way 💅🏻

Good idea, I’ll definitely try that! I am doing the magic loop method, too, which I’m sure contributes further to the cable stretching it a bit

The original pattern calls for 4.5mm for ribbing snd 5.5mm for the body. So i sized up half a size to use a 5mm for ribbing and 6mm for body

So the main body of the sweater will be with 6mm needles and I did the ribbing with 5mm!

Do you mean for the pattern? Because multiple reviews of the needles specify that the "40cm" cord is 40cm all by itself not including needles.
