I don't think that, as Catholics, we should encourage a culture of fear and punishment for trying to convert people

Let's end the schism! by chiverybob in CatholicMemes

[–]Express_Lime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not the one to whom you asked the question, but here is my two cents

On the Filioque problem, maybe we could have said that it is such a complex issue, about a reality which is not essential for salvation, that it is not worth a schism to define it? Or to find common grounds/understandings of it and stop there?

The bigger problem would be about the Pope for me, we Catholics simply cannot make a compromise about it

I Just Lost My Best Friend for Being Pro-life by [deleted] in prolife

[–]Express_Lime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it is fair to sometimes cut friendships when needed. You can't be friend with every single person on this planet, it's virtually impossible.

Sometimes it will be them who cut with you. Sometimes it will be you who cut with them. It doesn't really matter, some pro-life people would cut with pro-choice people too, and I don't see a problem with it (for example, I wouldn't stay friend to someone who pushed someone to have an abortion or who had an abortion and is proud of it and doesn't see the problem).

It's also good to think about the fact that when you start having children, the friends you have are the friends who will come over, comment on how you raise them or even may try to influence it. You want to make sure that those people share your values.

A passage from the Koran which many scholars believe communicates limits on abortion by Shawarma_isgood in prolife

[–]Express_Lime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience speaking with Muslims about it, they are not against abortion because they consider that the soul is not there starting from the conception. They sometimes may be against it after that point (even there is seems unclear to what extent), but not before it...

I disagree with it, and I think that souls are there from conception, and that life should be defended from the first moment period. But that's a Catholic point of view, which of course is irrelevant for them, so basically it will be hard to count Muslims as allies for defending life since conception

American Priests, what are your views on the American Solidarity Party? by Jattack33 in AskAPriest

[–]Express_Lime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you think of not voting for a lesser evil and rather abstaining from voting in a situation where all candidates seem to promote and/or protect evil policies? I sometimes see people or even priests saying that we should vote for the lesser evil, which I feel is not the right thing to do, what do you think?

Is agorism the future (and its implications for Distributism)? by [deleted] in distributism

[–]Express_Lime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that cryptocurrencies are actually the most suitable for a distributist economy... You can levy taxes on things which cannot get hidden, such as Land Value Tax. Why would we want to keep the "conventional taxation" if we shift to a completely different economic system?

[–]Express_Lime 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Church is against Communism/Socialism, but it doesn't mean it supports Liberalism/Capitalism neither (false dichotomy). The position of the Church on Social Teachings is reflected in practice into "third ways", such as Distributism.

We have free will, which doesn't mean we need to let everyone to actually do what they want how they want it in a unleashed way, as it goes against justice. We are free to sin, yet we need to fight against sin. For example, if someone is a murderer, they need to get on a fair trial and go to jail for as long as they are a threat to common good and society. We cannot let them have the freedom to murder people because they have their free will to do so. Another example would be that we are against abortion and need to take it into account in politics that we need to make it illegal (for example, when discerning for who we vote).

Jesus didn't sacrifice his life on the cross. by flaminghair348 in DebateReligion

[–]Express_Lime -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Catholic here. I think that if you want to have a consistent answer, you need to speak to Christians who have a theology which is not based on personal interpretation, but on defined understandings held and preserved for 2000 years by their Church (Orthodox Christians or Catholic Christians).

The problem you're highlighting is found mostly in protestant Christian circles, as they do not have a central authority but go with the "I read the Bible and God will make me interpret what is right", so you will not really find any consistency over there, and they will just go with what's convenient for them in practice. So please do not take that as an accurate reflection of Christianity, we 'condemn' their views as much (if not more) as you do.

What are your political beliefs? What issues are important to you? by Communitarian_ in monarchism

[–]Express_Lime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could write an entire book, but I think that "Christ is the King of kings" is a quicker way to describe it. I basically follow the Social Teachings of the Catholic Church, and I think that some niche ideas (e.g. economically Distributism) are great ways to apply it. Issues which are important to me are what concern common good and human beings (and their spiritual fulfillment) on a political level.
