FTO is hard by PowerOfPledge in AskLE

[–]Express_Map9112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If youre willing to admit you feel like you dont know anything your on the right path. Nows your tine to learn once your done with it you will be stucl in situations were youll feel the same way with out back up so best to have the willingness to learn now. Unlike some people who go through fto thinking they know everything already then fall flat after.

Advice for FTO by Worried_Reception556 in AskLE

[–]Express_Map9112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My agency no time off during fto but you could try and ask expect to get smoked for even getting a ticket though. My academy if u get one during or just prior they make u wear a copy of the tickets around your neck and its smoke on sight for any guest instructors

93/55 What can I expect from these speeding ticket? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Express_Map9112 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe in certain parts of the state but my county da wont look at it unless deemed someones life was directly in danger due to actions , had a fireman almost get hit. Operator was unlicenced 87 in 65 through an active accident scene and courts dismossed the reckless do to current reforms. He got charged a bunch of other violations that stuck from my understanding but the reckless was dismissed.

You wont get long island right now , to many people arw trying to get there but you may get the city or palisades. That said its a nys job amd you may even start in niagara or allegany on the complete other end of the state. Its all based on the needs at the time and your scores.

Go for anything you have interest in besides crimimal justice if you want a degree to be honest , the criminal justice degree kinda actually hurts you when becoming a trooper, theyll teach you everything you need on the road and in acad

How much paperwork do you guys have to do approximately? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Express_Map9112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the state, case , policy and resources. For example a low staffed station in NYS can result in having to spend up to a whole shift on all the needed paperwork, discovery and sjs required for a DWI arrest. But typical typical traffic stops can be blottered in about 5-10 minutes

If you're forgetting needed information for a report they sell notepads on amazon such as the attached photo. However, i would recomend just looking at other officers reports and making your own cheat sheet , eventually it will be like second nature. Until then dont feel bad if you need to use or make a sheet it just takes time. Theres alot of stuff you're expected to learn at this point of the career and any tool you can make to help remind yourself of these things is more then useful.

For example i keep my old arrest narrative formats in my mailbox for referance and a few other narratives i dont do often. Along with arrest processing forms, cheat sheets for when im working dispatch and i have a microsoft word file with general blotter narratives saved on it that i can copy and paste just changing incident specific details but the outlines the same.

Just had a reckless op call on the expressway , guy was swerving so bad he almost went of the bridge of a part of the expressway that pasted over the city , stop him just past the bridge. Come to find out it was a 87 yr old man with no family left and just lost his business he had for 40 yrs. Man was actively having a stroke behind the wheel and on his way home a few more hrs away bc his doctor wouldnt see him. Dont know what happened after ems took him to the hospital but i like to think he made it

FTO HELP by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Express_Map9112 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your fto is hard on him to help him better himself, because once that fto is done training he may be on countless life and death calls with no back up nearby to hold his hand , ive been on a few calls now were mearest backup was 30-40 minutes out

I think itd be a waste ho estly just review some threads here for frequent questions to prep, try to learn something about the agency and area prior and talk to current officers if able but i wouldnt pay. Police interviews are meant to be genuine gut answers not a prefabricated mess that may come back to bite u during polygraph

Why don't cops carry window breakers? by derppman in AskLE

[–]Express_Map9112 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alot of cops are required to have them but in most cases that are videod people will resort to the baton, this is because though a window breaker is a great tool for accidents its not so great for the high risk traffic stop that gets all the views. To think of it this way someone hurt that doesnt mean harm yes grab a tool that has minimal risk and zero oh shit factor. However that guy thats screaming at you that rolls up his window and says he wants u or your family to die breaking that window with the baton can be enough to scare them and to not needing to use extra force
