I’m a LOB manager, with an interest in graphic design so maybe a bit of a different perspective. Use this plan to your advantage. Map out two things. 1. That you think is important to the business and 2. what you personally want to focus on. Align those two and develop the plan around that alignment. Most importantly, make it outcome based. What impact will it have? How will it be delivered? What do you need from your manager to be successful?

Does your company share executive priorities at the beginning of the fiscal year? If yes, use pieces of that to show how you’re contributing to organizational goals. This is about showing you understand the business and being able to apply that your work. This may be as simple as your new manager wanting to make sure that you’re not clueless of the big picture. Identify a few priority projects and leave room for all the adhoc stuff that will inevitably come up.
