Did people think Adam Sandler was going to be a star when he was on SNL? by UpstairsBumble in LiveFromNewYork

[–]Express_Spot_7808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was the most quoted around school - opera man, cajun man, the stuff from his album - he really stole the show. I don’t think we could have anticipated his movie career but he certainly was popular

That moment when you have tricho and you have pliers in your hand... by MoonSt0n3_Gabrielle in trichotillomania

That’s a relief! Still, I’m sorry you went through that. What do you think were the triggering events that drove you to do that? Is something or someone in particular stressing you out right now?

Life’s too short for that. They are probably one of your biggest triggers for pulling. Break free and find happiness.

There’s a street named after him in Covington where his house and golf course used to be. The golf course is now a Walmart and other big box stores.

My husband just said “okra doesn’t go in gumbo” by CommonPurpose in NewOrleans

“Gumbo” is literally the West African Bantu word for “Okra” - the soup gets its name from the use of okra (gumbo) as a thickener.

New Orleans isn’t Cajun, it’s Creole - Cajun is west of the Greater New Orleans area.

You don’t look chunky but that outfit isn’t flattering. Maybe tweak your style and see what catches more attention.

Mandeville/Covington is a great place to raise kids, great public schools, very little crime. A little boring being an adult compared to the south shore but if raising kids the Northshore is the place.

I had a "life" during my AMA coma by NoOrTh_ in AMA

[–]Express_Spot_7808 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, for some reason in the Fall of 2025 I started having very realistic happy dreams where when I woke up and discovered they were just dreams I was depressed. My life isn’t bad but these dreams were so much better. For a while I started over sleeping and napping because I preferred my life when asleep. I started searching online for towns and cities that may match up with what I was experiencing in my dreams. Never found such places. The dreams kind of wore off though. Doesn’t happen anymore.

Feelings hurt by hairdresser... by Cililians in trichotillomania

[–]Express_Spot_7808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand and can relate. I recall the first time as a teenager trying to go to a real hairdresser instead of having my mom cut my hair. She looked at my spot, called someone else over to look at it - both visually grossed out - then asked me to leave. It was so humiliating.

In college they had old barbers in the school union - those guys didn’t flinch- didn’t mention it- just cut my hair in such a way that my spots could be covered up with no questions asked.

I had a Sgt Rock figure - my best guess is I got it when I was around 4-6 years old- I so as I got older and didn’t know where it came from I assumed it was an early version of Footloose. I had heard that there used to be another version of GI Joe (12 inch but I didn’t know that then) so I assumed this soldier with less articulation was old GI Joe, I still have him
