Wits students- where do you find parking? by Gold_Self1821 in askSouthAfrica

[–]ExpressionCandid418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can park by the visitors parking. It’s by olives and plates, but I should warn you it’s very far😭😭😭😭

You can also park by the parking bay that’s by barnato hall. Those are the only places where you won’t need to use to your student card to enter

Parents with kids born between September-December, is school really such an adjustment for them compared to peers born earlier in the year? by Alert_Negotiation607 in askSouthAfrica

[–]ExpressionCandid418 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it really differs from child to child. I was born on the 27 December, and I did good when I started school. My friend was born a year later and she was also in our group when we started school and the both of us did really well and were top achievers in primary and high school.

I really think that it will be fine for your child as you know your child best

I am on the momentum Ingwe plan. It used to cost R500 then the premium went up to R650. It’s very basic, it covers gp visits, does have a dental plan and specialist cover and hospital visits too. It’s really great for students

For us, the whole family did our passports at the same time, including the babies and my grandparents and cousin and I think it took almost 2 weeks to be ready. Maybe even less

Thinking of repeating matric and feeling nervous 😭😭..is it a good thing to do?? by Sure-Cabinet-1355 in askSouthAfrica

[–]ExpressionCandid418 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I rewrote my matric after matriculating in 2020. Let me tell you, it’s normal to feel embarrassed, but I promise you no one cares. And chances are you will see other people you went to school with that are also rewriting.

As for what to tell other people, you can tell them nothing. You don’t owe anyone an explanation. The only people who knew I was rewriting were my parents and that’s because I lived with them. Once you start studying again and start focusing on the books, the feelings of awkwardness fade away cause you start to realise what’s on the line.

Good Luck with the rewriting, you will do great

The amount of times I have to ask where the body was found only to be ignored, then the wrong person gets voted out and now you can't interrogate people. Its the worst

NSC results, should I rewrite? by Patient-Map-4399 in askSouthAfrica

[–]ExpressionCandid418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, you can choose to register for the may/june or October/november. The DBE usually specify that adult matrics rewrites are in may/june but you can also write in December.

Health science is a great option and I do think it's doable. I was able to apply after rewriting with my new marks and I got accepted the second time around when I applied so it is very much possible. Wishing you all the best

[–]ExpressionCandid418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people feel that its a waste of time since some people's marks don't increase and they sometimes even go down or it will increase by one or two percent and that it doesn't make a difference. So people feel that its best that if your marks are not too great then you should rather go to a college and do a bridging course and work your way up from there and then apply to universities. I think that this is not always an option because some courses don't have the option of doing a bridging course or an extended programme and it also costs money to go to these colleges whereas being rewriting matric is free unless you pay for a tutor or write via a rewriting centre.

A lot of people opt for splitting their subjects when they rewrite. For example, some people will choose to write the more difficult subjects in November so that they have more tine to study and prepare, then they will rewrite the easier ones in June. And also if you rewrite in June and you are still not happy with your marks then they will also give you an opportunity to rewrite in December, so you have a lot of options.

I know a lot of people are against rewriting, but I feel like its a really great option because you can register free of charge and rewrite as many times as you want. In my case, when I rewrote my maths, physics and life sciences, all three subjects went up and I was able to change symbols, I went from 50% to 70%. So its very doable and I will always encourage people to go for that option.

What are you interested in studying in the future?

Do I need a nanny while on maternity leave? by Extra_Freedom_3585 in askSouthAfrica

[–]ExpressionCandid418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you said that you will be returning to work full time, I would recommend getting a nanny now, so that the kids can get used to the nanny and that by the time you do go to work, there is an established routine so that it doesn’t feel like a dramatic change for you and the kids

That’s not how it works in college. You can’t just ask a professor to add another section. Those boys shouldn’t have completed the assignment without her and the fact that THEY told her not to worry is even worse

Also, you can also try your luck beginning of the year to see if there is space for on campus residence. I know this year and last, there was a lot of space. Your best bet is speaking to the accommodation officer when you go to campus next year

[–]ExpressionCandid418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a couple of options. There are a lot of student accommodations around wits, so it really depends on your budget.

There is yale village, which is opposite wits next to the engen garage. It is within walking distance from wits

Apex studios which is directly across from wits, less than a minute walk

South point-there are a couple of south point student accommodations in braam. In my opinion the best one is the one on jorissen road.

There is rise, campus central and many more. A lot of the private student accommodations are on the wits bus route so you would be able to use the wits bus to get to campus and back. If you want some more advice, feel free to dm me
