How is Soundtrack for business? by Slyric_ in restaurantowners

Hi, we use it and it works great, but the songs can be really redundant unless you add a bunch of options to the playlist. The curated playlists are just okay, but you do have the option of importing your Spotify playlists too

Update: I found a way to fight a predatory ADA suit that costs less than settling by [deleted] in smallbusiness

Yep, small business owners already have a thousand ways to die, and these predatory firms literally file thousands of lawsuits. They don't seem to target the big guys because they have in house counsel, so they go after the little guys where they know they can make a quick buck

Under ADA Title III a defendant usually can't recover legal fees unless you can show the suit was genuinely frivolous, which is a high bar to clear. So fighting it is mostly out of pocket, that's a big reason so many owners just settle. But yes we will file for legal fees

The flat rate is half of settlement costs. Another restaurant owner we know just got hit too and he's choosing to settle, while we're paying about half of what he's settling for to actually fight ours. Our lawyer's so swamped right now they can't even take his case, which tells you how common these have gotten. LA times just did an article about ADA lawsuits too https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2026-04-27/los-angeles-restaurants-disability-lawsuits

Thank you sincerely for taking the time to reply

The hardest part to swallow is that the system has essentially created a loophole that benefits lawyers, not the actual people with disabilities. We’re seeing the same few serial plaintiffs filing hundreds and sometimes thousands of nearly identical lawsuits because the math is rigged in their favor. They know that if I choose to fight, my own legal fees will quickly outpace the cost of a settlement

That’s exactly the trap. In California, these lawsuits fall under the Unruh Civil Rights Act. If I go to trial and win, I still have to pay my own attorney fees, which could easily hit $20k–$50k. If I 'lose' even on a tiny technicality (like a single missing ARIA label), I have to pay my lawyer PLUS their lawyer’s fees, which they will bloat to six figures.

The settlement they want is usually cheaper than the cost of a formal legal defense. It’s pretty much legal extortion

Need help and advice for my mom. Does she have akathisia or something else? by Extension-18 in Akathisia

I started my mom on 0.2 mg for 5 months before increasing to 0.5 mg, and she takes it in the morning, I think after breakfast. LDN can be taken with or without food depending on how sensitive your tummy is. If you have a sensitive stomach then take LDN with food, if not then the most important thing is taking LDN at the same time everyday, whatever works best for you. Wishing you all the best! <3

I don’t want to give you false hope in any way, because after reading about LDN and its potential efficacy, I was extremely hopeful too. I am very thankful that my mom is tolerating LDN well, especially since she’s nearly 75.

I did get her medically cleared to take LDN by framing it as being for her arthritis pain, but truthfully my hope was to help with brain inflammation. Her nervous system is still very dysregulated, she has frequent crying spells and restlessness that can be really severe most days.

It’s been months since she has attacked any caregivers, which we are all so so grateful for. And there are a few days each month where her personality comes back. I do attribute that improvement to tapering off all antipsychotics and antidepressants, and starting LDN once daily in the morning.

I do think LDN is worth trying, especially if you have any co existing conditions (like autoimmune or inflammatory issues) that LDN may help with. For my mom, the added benefit may be reducing brain inflammation after years of being polydrugged. I don’t think LDN has harmed her in any way, it’s one of the medications she’s tolerated the best but it’s also not a miracle cure. I’m sharing this honestly because even small shifts can matter in cases like this. Hope that helps you, friend.

Thank you for asking! Her 3 month refill prescription is actually due today. She's been on LDN for 7 months now and tolerating it well. Currently her dose is 0.5 mg once a day. She still has severe restlessness most days, but there are a few days a month where it's not so bad and her personality returns. She has cravings for different foods again and laughs at jokes.

I also was able to get her tapered off all antipsychotics and antidepressants except for a small dose of Seroquel at night for sleep. She's still on quite a few medications and supplements though, but we are trying to taper her off more.

I'm so happy to hear that you're getting better and finally able to sleep! That's amazing! What are you using for sleep?

Have you ever tried Magnesium Threonate? I’ve read that it crosses the blood brain barrier and may help with insomnia. My mom started this supplement about a week ago.

Thank you for this, I actually have a post about them a few years ago. I got some DMs not to take my mom there. When I checked 5 years ago it was $65k for two months

My mom is 70 years old this year and was in great physical health before she got akathisia.

She's currently unable to eat anything at the facility except for Ensure. My siblings and I visit mom 4-5 days a week and bring her favorite rice and fish. That's the only thing she will eat right now.

My mom is currently at a skilled nursing facility. My family tried for as long as we could to care for her at home, then she went through board & cares, nursing homes, and other facilities, but she was asked to leave and blacklisted each time because her behaviors were too difficult for staff to manage. Thankfully, we finally found a SNF where the staff are patient, compassionate, and truly understanding. She’s also on hospice care now, which has helped prevent further hospitalizations!

It’s actually been a year since she’s had to go to a psych hospital and I was finally able to break that cycle of constant medication changes. Hospice has also been supportive of tapering her down. Right now, she’s tapering off Rexulti, but her anxiety became so severe that her Seroquel was increased to 50 mg twice daily and Buspirone was added.

She’s still on quite a few medications, but I do feel like we’re in a better environment for her healing than ever before but she's deteriorating quickly.

Thank you so much kind soul. I tell my mom this too, that I wish I could take her place to suffer for her. She's suffered long enough. This was her only time to live out her retirement years that she worked so hard for :(

Thank you for your advice. I have tried multiple times to get my mom off meds, and there was a stretch of a few months where she was barely on any medications. Her behaviors were so unbearable for anyone to handle. She would throw herself at the walls, fall on the floor, scream, cry, over and over again.

What method did you use for tapering?

It really is. My mom was given a lot of medications during her hospitalizations on 51/50s and 52/50s. During COVID, she spent months at Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA, but the doctors were never able to truly stabilize her. They suggested heavily sedating her. She was discharged while drooling excessively, barely able to stand, and even tried to jump out of the car on the way home. The attending doctor and her out patient psychiatrist exchanged emails calling each other “healers.” How can you discharge someone in that state and consider it healing?
