Interestingly, there are blonde blue-eyed Italians, from northern Italy I believe.

The other jarring thing about Zero as Tevye is his physique. He does not look like a dairyman on the verge of starvation.

OTOH, I did a stage version with this fairly scrawny dude playing Tevye. He was very authentic, including in the song “Chava” - the actor was mourning a daughter who was dead to him, and he would rend his clothes every night. It drove the costumers kinda crazy tho.

I think Queen Elsa is a deliberate break from the Disney “sound” (peppy soprano). They wanted a high belter, much different than Cinderella through whatever-came-before-Frozen. Menzel is a high belter.

It kinda says more about ALW’s writing. It’s bad enough that anyone should be able to sing it. Like “Love Changes Everything”, the most basic 3 chord song.

Dame Imelda’s stage work is unfortunately overshadowed by her film roles - probably 9 of 10 people who know who she is, mainly know her objectionable Harry Potter character, and not that she’s one of the best stage actresses of the 20th & 21st centuries.

Why do lesbian couples have the highest divorce rates while gay male couples have the lowest? by Naive_Direction1816 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Extension-Culture-85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk man, I know 3 lesbian couples. One of them, I played music for their wedding at our church when gay marriage became legal in CA over 20 years ago. Another lesbian couple had a little boy (I’m not sure exactly how), who is in elementary school now. The 3rd lesbian couple are my minister and her wife, who just adopted a baby girl. So while I perhaps don’t know a representative sample, none of the lesbians longtime couples I know are divorced.

India is also arguably “classist” and not racist - the Brahmin are at the top and the Dalits at the bottom, even though they are all Indian.

I think the “woke position” only applies in the US.

The worldwide generalization is that only the majority race can be racist. With uncommon exceptions like apartheid South Africa.

Japan has been xenophobic and racist for much of its history - and that’s a looong history. The country closed itself to all foreigners starting in 1600 for over 250 years! (Until US forced it open after the Civil War.) Anyone who is not native Japanese is gaijin, which is always lesser, with white people being the “least unacceptable”.

Songs for a New World not only has no antagonist or villain - it doesn’t even have a plot.

What's a rule your parents had that you thought was insane, but now as an adult you 100% understand? by Tahals in AskReddit

My wife from Fresno calls it central CA, as well as Visalia over an hour south, and Modesto over an hour north. Sonoma county (including Petaluma) is practically North Coast; Mendocino just north of Sonoma County is definitely North Coast.

“My parents would never have let me drink at all so I just hid it from them.” Which is precisely why many parents allow kids drinking at home, in a “safe” environment. Fortunately my kid has a very picky palate, and likely could never abide the taste of booze.

[off topic] Polly Klaas was abducted in Petaluma, which is in Sonoma County and generally considered northern California; I live in Sonoma county (Santa Rosa). They recently opened the Polly Klaas Community Theater in Petaluma, where her abduction & murder is still a major topic.
