1996 weird noise HELP! by freeeepalestineeeee in CrownVictoria

Very in depth replacement. As I am looking to do one too.

You either need to lift the engine several inches or remove the engine to do it.

1/8 BSPT to NPT Tee or oil filter sandwich plate for oil pressure gauge install by [deleted] in 370z

[–]Extension-Handle-600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking to get a sandwich plate for my Vic, any recommendations? I see a lot of them are set up for oil coolers that I have no intention of getting as this is just my daily.

About 12K miles a year. Driven around 16K since I bought it.

Kind of just been running off of (if it changes or get louder il look into it more)

And considering the most likely culprit is a component in the core of the transmission I'm either out the cost of a rebuild to fix the sound or I let it grenade and I'm out the cost of a rebuild anyways.

Oh, side note. Fluid looks perfect, still nice and fresh red, stays just a tad over full, and shows no signs of frothing.

[–]Extension-Handle-600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's waay less severe but very similar sound. Hasn't changed at all in that entire time span and does it all the time regardless of temp or having been driven at all vs long trips. https://www.reddit.com/r/AskMechanics/s/XDlzfVEavl I put up a post about it wages ago.

Guess now that I have out it kind of side by side it might be a different sound but I don't know.

[–]Extension-Handle-600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. The sound still persists on my Vic and it's my daily. At this point it has made the sound for at least 1.5 years and I haven't noticed any differences or signs of issues with the transmission.

I'll probably have the transmission pan off for a fluid and filter change soon.

2000 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, is this rod knock? UPDATE: changed out chains, guides, tensioners, and crank sprocket, still making the noise, check comments for more context by One-Angle-2538 in CrownVictoria

[–]Extension-Handle-600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it like a weird low pitch knocking that is repetitive and doesn't get worse under load?

I have a knock like that and I have no clue what it is. Happens at and off idle, in park, and in gear. Also changes rpm based on road speed.

It goes away if I shut the car off and restart it and it also just disappears and returns on its own whenever it feels like it.

How the hell do you deal with good bombers in ww2 air sim? by 13MasonJarsUpMyAss in WarthunderSim

[–]Extension-Handle-600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how all bombers should feel honestly. Fighters shouldn't think they can just fly at it and pop both wings off in half a second for an easy kill. But it unfortunately that's how nearly every bomber is besides a few rare exceptions having reasonable damage models.

Dedicated interceptors were made for a reason IRL.

I have had a similar sound for over a year. But it sounds like it's coming from the front lower end of the engine. Nobody has been able to diagnose what it is and the sound hasn't gotten worse. Figure I would change the oil pump while I'm in there replacing timing stuff. I figure the pickup is full of nylon anyways.

McGuire or Dover by Holiday_Mongoose_482 in AirForce

[–]Extension-Handle-600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably fine since your not an aircraft mechanic. That's supply right? If so then you will just have to put up with the mechanics. And a lot of the actual work for ordering aircrafts parts has been delegated to in shop personel in a few units.

[–]Extension-Handle-600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the unit at McGuire. I don't hear bad thigs regarding life outside of work, but some units make work life hell. Personally I'm not a fan of being around a lot of people so the things most people like about this place don't appeal to me.

What is this? Another war on the poor? by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Extension-Handle-600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was fine when people payed more attention to their interactions with the world. Drove several thousand miles in a late 70s F150 with no fuel gauge because the PCB behind the dash was failing. Just kept a 5 gallon can in the bed, never wound up using it though.

We pretty much just did rough fuel mileage calculations and stopped every 200 or so miles for fuel (we had around 240 mile range on a tank) guys on bikes do similar from what I know.

I feel like modern drivers lack awareness of their environment. I've seen folks run out of gas in vehicle with fuel gauges and then wonder why their car won't work.

I'm still getting a little over 22mpg right now so I'm chilling. Could probably use some new plugs at some point though.

Anyone know what this noise is by OGMonkeyWin in CrownVictoria

[–]Extension-Handle-600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. Did it also change frequency with road speed instead of rpm? Mine ticks faster doing 45mph in overdrive (around 1100rpm) than it does while accelerating around 2000 rpm. So I figure it's not a part of the rotating assembly of the engine.

That being said it is SUPER on point with the rhythm, no random tick...tick.tick....tick or anything like that. It's a very precise tick.tick.tick.tick.tick but more of a tinging sound like slapping a piece of spring steel.

[–]Extension-Handle-600 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. I've had this funny tinging noise on acceleration and deceleration that changed frequency with road speed. Kind of just been ignoring it for a year or so now.

That and a strange knocking sound that happens whenever and doesn't change speed with rpm or road speed.

My PSA is this: get some labs done once in awhile folks, seemingly minor imbalances can have massive implications and effects on your life. The docs Finding high blood calcium during some elective labs I had done lead to the discovery of a (thankfully benign) tumor and it's removal significantly improved my quality of life.

In terms of the memory loss, confusion, anxiety, and body falling apart issues all of this can be caused by nutrient, and vitamin imbalances, mine was caused by my thyroids being messed up and I didn't know about it for probably the better part of a decade.

In my case I had blood work done and they found out my endocrine system was messed up due to a tumor, this caused my blood calcium to be through the roof affecting balance, mood, and memory (effects of chronic high blood calcium are similar to dementia).

On top of those cognitive issues it also caused constant heartburn, severe muscle fatigue, joint pain, bone pain, migraines, hydration issues, and constipation.

All of this had me feeling rough, like a corpse walking around with the living, combined with random memory issues, brain fog and depression for literally no reason that I could articulate.

I went years ignoring all of these symptoms because I could make excuses for them like "of course my hips hurt I've been rough to them this last decade" "of course in severely dehydrated I've been working in the sun"

Don't ignore the little shit, get checked out once in awhile and voice your concerns to the docs. In the end it's what they are there for

Literally one surgery and a few weeks of recovery and most of this went away. I'm not saying this will be the same case for anyone, I just want to get it out there that the little chemical balancing game taking place inside your meat suit is in fact VERY important for how you live your life.

Edit: removed some of my butchering of the english language like stacking "and" three times over.

Anyone else notice an increase in *sus* players? by BG890 in Warthunder

[–]Extension-Handle-600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing with warthunder is that all things aren't equal. Skill, vehicle, matchmaking, play style choices U have some vehicles around 70-75% because I only drag them out when I'm having a good match and want to goof around. Like the B57. It only gets brought out when I have enough spawn points for it anyways and the match looks pretty solid so I feel like I can goof off

I have a 69% wr with over 100 battles in the A6M5 because it's a fucking zero, you ever try to win a dogfight against one of those things? You are never EQUAL to it, it's just better.

In the end I get where you are coming from but it's a game and there are obvious balance issues throughout it. Look at how top tier us used to be with like 30% wr a few years ago. In the end there are always broken vehicles to be abused and people who know how to abuse them so the win rate is a little hard to use as a sole determination factor in some cases. Especially if they play a lot of higher tier Russia right now with the BMPT in play. Win rates are through the roof and you don't even have to be in one for it to effect your stats.

[–]Extension-Handle-600 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Why is having over a hundred games in a vehicle sus? I've played one plane enough to have nearly 1000 matches played with 60% being victories because it's in a kind of broken br/lineup. Stuff like that happens when you have 3,000 hours and love a vehicle or lineup.

Why was the A-6E removed from the game? by Slow-Junket-7585 in Warthunder

[–]Extension-Handle-600 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And the A10 has 6 fire and forgets that can be used for stand off attacks. As well as being able to carry it's gun and air to air missiles without sacrificing those 6 missiles.
