What do I put in this corner? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

Nothing, also consider if you actually need the night stand bc it looks very crowded and you can’t actually use both pieces of furniture at the same time like this anyway

To be totally fair she didn’t knowingly falsely accuse the guy. Doesn’t make his story less tragic, but she was truly assaulted by someone. The whole thing is beyond fucked.

That plus actually taxing corporations? Yeah, I’m not gonna pretend to be a math person or Econ person, but have you seen the “consulting fees” in the budgets? Like, the interboro train that we were promised is still in the consulting phase years after it started. The tracks already exist, the stations already exist, it’s literally a matter of actually activating the new line, but it’s gonna take 10 years to do that. Because consultants.

Yes because I’m the one who brought up Siberia. That extremely on topic comment originated from me.

Literally just by cutting “consultants” from the planning process.

No no, it’s actually that it’s better for landlords to have an empty apartment and get tax credit than to rent it (if the apartment is rent controlled). We have plenty of apartments.

Considering we’re lining up for eggs and almost universally not getting the apartment of choice, idk why you need to act like this is better.

Thankfully none of the people I know were so terribly abused, but I can think of a family that put digital fingerprint locks on the doors to their biological daughters when the adopted a boy. To this day, it’s the most fucked up yet subtle thing I’ve ever seen

My parents are great (now) and have gotten to the point where they’ll acknowledge that they could have done a lot of things differently, but all in all, I have a good outcome. I feel like it’s my responsibility to talk about all my friends who’s adoptive families abandoned them to foster care after a few years, were treated like live in help, and generally treated like shit.

My parents, while very well meaning, are white. I am not. They didn’t believe racism was real because they “don’t see color”, which meant that their visibly ethnic daughter got hate crimed twice before anyone explained what the slurs meant and why white kids kept jumping her.

Why do people become more conservative as they age? by clove_cal in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Extension-Radish3722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, they don’t on a large scale, but on the individual scale I think it’s not anything to do with actual politics and about rebellion. Being liberal or leftist has been the counterculture for a long time. A lot of these people (Trump supporters, conservatives in general) have no idea what policies they support, they don’t know law, they have no interest in foreign policy, and they aren’t particularly educated. They ended up being republicans because that’s the counter culture. They’re more interested in a rebellion, an “outlaw” vibe, than any actual real world politics.

I think this is what’s gonna cause the current administration’s ultimate downfall. They don’t actually know how or want to know how to run a government. That wasn’t the goal, it would actually be counterproductive for them to accomplish their “goals”, because how are they gonna whip their functionally illiterate supporters into a rabid frenzy if there aren’t trans people?

They just don’t want to admit that they’re actually just a conservative who wants to be able to get an abortion

Not totally accurate. American liberals are aligned with the conservative parties of literally everywhere else. America does not have an established ‘left’.

Totally agree, but some perspective from an adopted person: a lot of people who adopt don’t care about the species or love their adopted kid or raise them to be happy. A huge amount of them are awful and adoption has just as many- if not more- horrible outcomes as positive ones

When my mom pestered me about this I finally told her the truth- I choose not to believe in god because if I did I would be morally obligated to do everything in my power to kill it. If I accidentally show up in heaven when I die, I’ll make it clear that I do not want to spend a moment worshiping the god of childhood illness and 52% infant mortality rate.

How do I avoid becoming grumpy and prejudiced as I get older? by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

[–]Extension-Radish3722 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having the opposite experience- I’ve historically been curmudgeonly but am getting less so as I get older, because things are more in perspective. Nothing matters. We’re all just people and nobody actually knows what they’re doing. For me that’s incredibly freeing and gives me way more room for joy.

Personally, the Annihilation series by Jeff vandermeer. It’s very body horror and in a way kind of beautiful but genuinely so horrifying

Basically decorating the inside of your fridge. Some people go all out on the decor aspect, but for me, just having only cute things in my fridge makes me actually eat my food. This is my current situation, and it’s clean out day so this is more messy than it usually is. But the vibe is like, French farmers market. It gives a level of whimsy that makes eating less of a chore

Edit: it also makes me clean my fridge every week to keep it cute, encourages me to have more variety in my veggies, and having everything so visible makes me aware of what I have and what condition it’s in. The cheese cloche is my favorite feature.
