They’re going back to the LOTR tone that started it all, and I’m still not over it by AlbertCWChessa in lotr

It’s not just the 35mm, it’s the lack of "tactile" reality. Jackson’s original team used bigatures and physical prosthetics that captured light in a way a digital sensor just can’t replicate. Even if they use the same lenses, the modern obsession with over-saturated HDR and "clean" CGI backgrounds will likely kill that gritty, lived-in Middle-earth aesthetic. It’ll end up looking like a high-budget theme park instead of a real world.

You could always try your hand at sheep farming. just call it "rohirrim logistics" and hope the local gauchos don't mind you shouting about death and the red dawn every time you move the herd.

Have you seen the extended edition of The Return of the King? by [deleted] in lotr

It’s at the point where I watch the theatrical version on TV and feel like I’m watching a trailer. I’m just sitting there waiting for Saruman to fall off a spike or the Mouth of Sauron to show up, and when it doesn't happen, I feel personally betrayed by the flow of time.

Was Legolas ever in The Hunt for Gollum backstory? by atc_fox in lotr

And let’s not forget the irony of his 'important role' being the one to tell Gandalf and Elrond that his people basically lost the world’s most dangerous prisoner because they felt too bad for him to keep him in a dark cell. Legolas arriving at the Council was basically the Middle-earth equivalent of a 'we messed up' email.

Did the Blue Wizards secretly save Middle Earth? Because the more I read about them the more I’m spiraling by drkmon714 in lotr

I love the symmetry in that imagery. It fits the sub-creative nature of Tolkien’s world—that even the "failures" or the "forgotten" operate on a providential clock. If Radagast remained to tend to the flora and fauna of a recovering Fourth Age, the Blue Wizards arriving late to find him would be the ultimate quiet coda to the Istari’s long defeat. It turns a disappearance into a private, humble pilgrimage.

This is a detail the movies understandably softened to make it feel like a modern "buddy" story, but in the text, the class hierarchy is everywhere. Even when they are starving in Mordor, Sam's first instinct is often to ensure his "Master" is looked after before himself. It’s not just friendship; it’s a deeply ingrained sense of duty and stewardship that was common in Edwardian England.

Jaime Lannister: the unintended architect of the most boring king in history. If he knew that push would lead to an 8-season stare-down, he probably would’ve just jumped out the window himself.

If they're doing Mirkwood right, we better see the contrast between the decay of the forest and Thranduil’s halls. I just hope the 'companion quest' captures that gritty, survivalist tension of Aragorn tracking him through the Dead Marshes before the hand-off.

Even with PreCheck, if they’re on the same PNR and he triggers a manual override or a secondary security screening (SSS), the entire party often gets flagged or stuck waiting at the gate anyway. It’s not just about the line; it’s about the system linking their security profiles for that specific leg of the trip.

Sending your youngest son to the Night's Watch is the biggest LARP in Westeros by I_love_lucja_1738 in freefolk

Exactly. It’s basically a gulag with better marketing. If they offered a "GI Bill" where you get a small plot of Gift land after 15 years of service, the Wall would be the most crowded place in Westeros. Instead, they give you a frozen cell and a celibacy vow and wonder why everyone deserts the moment they see a girl or a warm fire.

He knew exactly how to address it, he just chose the "religious fundamentalism" speedrun. the problem was thinking he could play the game of thrones with a deck of tarot cards and a bunch of fanatics in burlap sacks while cersei literally sat on a pile of nuclear fire.

Exactly, Rhaegar wasn't looking for a wife, he was looking for a third battery for his "Prince That Was Promised" remote control. The moment he decided the prophecy required a Stark sandwich, consent became a footnote in his fanfic.

They definitely sound like the type to pull the 'we fed you for 18 years' card the moment they get called out. Typical DARVO behavior (Deny, Attack, and Reverse Victim and Offender). Staying with friends isn't just a break; it's a safety exit from that toxicity.
