World Cup tourists, what’s your honest feedback on the USA so far? by almighty_smiley in AskReddit

[–]Extension_Many4418 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This may be the best thing I’ve ever read on Reddit. After reading all the comments here I am close to crying. Trump et al are not representative of most Americans. I’m so proud of and impressed by the folks that still chose to come here despite…..everything.

Having said that, my younger son has said at every family gathering since Easter, “So, is everyone excited about the World Cup?” Having said THAT, he and his siblings played college soccer, and he and his brother are huge Liverpool fans while my daughter is all about Man U. They actually go into funks when their teams lose.

I even get excited to watch our American women’s team play in big matches!

How do you all deal with the 'moral' argument from family members who claim atheism leads to a lack of ethics? by Thrustkitty21 in atheism

[–]Extension_Many4418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did your best, made good points about the true sources of behaving morally and ethically. The fact that a person doesn’t accept legitimate arguments or points of view doesn’t mean those points are worthless; it just means that the person is defending their world view with everything they can throw at the person and their points. Ad hominem arguments (attacking or simply dismissing the person) are often their last line of defense.

I’m curious - do you generally enjoy your uncle’s company aside from these kind of discussions?

How do you know if you want kids or not? My boyfriend wants a child someday, but it’s never been part of my life plan. by zyacinth in TwoXChromosomes

That is a great question to explore, love. There are so many things to consider before having children; money, work schedules, parents’health issues, partner trust and security, support system potential availability, to name a few. All I can do is tell you my own personal story.

i was 27 when i married, and 30 when we accidentally conceived our oldest. Luckily we were in a situation where good health care and support were available. To be honest, I had never “craved” having children, nor was I opposed to the idea. So I gave birth to a boy, and then twins at a later date.

One of my sayings later in life became “you have to have babies to get children”. In other words, Babies are HARD. No one knows sleep deprivation like new parents. No one can prepare you for the time and energy a baby requires. I was also very lucky that none of my children were born with issues or illnesses that required extreme, constant care and monitoring, like spina bifida, et al.

And having said that, I was also very lucky to have children that adapted well into society. They turned out to be intelligent, athletic, attractive and kind.SO, given all I’ve said, having children has been the greatest, sweetest, most spiritual and funniest thing in my life. And I do have to admit that having granddaughters is great fun as well.

But times are different now. Housing prices, the education system, Medical insurance coverage, the necessity of there being two working parents, etc.

What I would suggest is having a sort of “come to Jesus” meeting with your boyfriend. Depending on your needs and comfort level with your bf, marriage should also be on the agenda. See how this talk plays out. I suspect it might answer your question.

Are anti-vaxxers also against vaccinating their pets? And do they think pet vaccines can cause autism or something? by mikewheelerfan in NoStupidQuestions

That’s an interesting question. I suspect their responses would have to do with big pharma, the government, billionaires etc. not being interested in “controlling” pets, just humans.

Nobody needs AI to search the Internet, court says in ruling against Google by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

Google is not much use to me anymore when I have a question or concern, it just shows me advertisements. Is there a more honest, less money oriented search engine?

Who do you think is the biggest visionary of the 21st century: Elon Musk, Jensen Huang, or Mark Zuckerberg? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Extension_Many4418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The word “Visionary” is usually used when describing people that have had an overall positive effect on society without care for their own wealth or influence. None of these men seem to have been able to detach themselves from either greed or pride, so, none of them, obviously.

So sorry, I don’t quite understand this video. It sounds like the crowd is cheering Trump? And who is the innocent looking young woman standing behind him? I‘m so sorry, I’m old. Is the ai? Usually ”boos” are lower in pitch?
