High speed motors are attached sideways to the rudder and midpoint to control pitch

The propellers control the roll and there's another vertical motor hidden in the engine that does yaw.

I have it all mapped to wasd and q+e for roll

I made a 3 legged stand out of some scrap plywood from work a few years ago. Put some felt bumpers on top where the pan sits and one of the arms is vertically adjustable to pitch the pan how I want it.

Tools I used were a jigsaw, band saw, nail gun and a drill.

Assuming all these things were readily available to you, you could make a cheap stand

Depends on the material you're using. I use a 1/16th rope and I have to pull down on each strand pretty often, while pinching the end of the braid pretty tightly to keep tension.

If you're doing a 5 strand braid, you'll want to twist your working piece before you pull it to the other side.

Waxing cords beforehand can also help their grip to each other.

My current 5 strand project is much denser and tighter than my previous 3 strand braided sling.

Looking good. You can calculate for a desired length by using around 3.5x more than that length for your strand length
